Creating scoring opportunities from wide areasPassing / Shooting / Playing / Moving / Feinting

General NotesTo generate scoring opportunities from wide areas.

Aims & ObjectivesTo create scoring opportunities from wide areas. To allow a high degree of repetition of balls from wide areas.

Organisation & SetupPlay on a full court with the condition that in order to score, the ball must go into the designated wide areas first. Once the ball has been into the wide areas shots must be taken within 2 passes. This session looks at what the options might be.

Coaching Factors & OutcomesAttack with width allowing you to get the ball wide early in open play. Pace of delivery from wide areas. Cut backs from zone A. Far post finishes from zone B. Defensive security to stop the counter. Quality first time finishes.

Adaptation & ProgressionPlay on a shorter court. Play multidirectional for the team in possession. Allow the team in possession to play with a fly GK.

Technical• Team shape to get the ball into wide areas• Opportunities cut the ball back and cross• Clever 1st time finishes• Make sure the GK doesn’t make a save and counter attack

Physical• Quick movements and changes of direction to make space as an

individual to receive the ball• Intense activity since the ball is always in play• Futsal specific movements to adjust your body to receive and pass

the ball

Psychological• Concentration, maintain focus to get balls in to the box from

wide areas• Confidence to take chances and be creative• Communication between each other to help and support• Control, stay calm under pressure and make good decisions• Commitment. Be persistent and relentless

Social• Working together as a group to beat the opposition• Taking turns with subs if numbers are high• Support other players when they do well or if errors occur

Coaching Point#1• Get the ball in to wide areas quickly• Set up so that players can receive in

wide areas• Move the ball quickly to get the ball wide

and force the defence to be out of shape and disorganised

Coaching Point#2• Look for cut backs from zone A to the edge

of the box• From zone B look for driven balls to the

far post• Get right footers on the left hand side who

can cut in and strike the ball from a dribble

Coaching Point#3• Clever Movement of the top man to either

the far post or to strike the cut back• 1 st time finishes with late adjustments• Shoot to end the move so that counter

attacks are limited

Coaching Point#4• Ensure there is defensive security and

balance to help avoid the counter attack• Be ready to react as a team and defend the

counter attack

possession of the ball

Coaching Point#2• Y5 to make the pitch long and play on the

shoulder of B4• Try to generate and exploit overloads with 1-2s• Play the ball and move to create space

Coaching Point#3• Rotate with other players to create space• Wide players drop in to receive centrally• Check runs to create space for self to receive the ball

Coaching Point#4• GK to be an option to receive the ball and

support the play, if not previously having touched the ball

• GK to try and play into advanced areas if possible

Support from GK to the player on the ball

Y2 and Y4 look to play 1-2 to exploit the overload As the pass goes from Y2 to Y4,

Y2 moves to look for the 1-2 around B3 who has put pressure on Y4 and the ball

If Y5 sees that a 1-2 around B3 is on then he moves to the 2nd post area to leave space to be exploited and be ready to shoot if ball comes across

Blue team are lockedinto zones 1 in B, 2 in C and 1 plus the GK in D
