Do you want you and your people to be the driving force behind the success of your

business?

Split into two acts, The Art of Business Development Workshop (from YourBigPic) transports

attendees into the role of Business Owner, Employee and Change Practitioner, working

within the context of your own business, or if you prefer, our example business, BOBC. It's a

great opportunity for you, ideally with your team, to take some time to explore the issues

facing most organisations, and the ways in which the business can be developed, using Big

Picture.

You’ll gain first-hand experience of the Big Picture tool, helping with your Current Focus and

Future Plans, putting your people at the centre, providing a two-way dialogue about their

work, and not only generating engagement in their roles and connectivity to the business,

but enabling them to develop their understanding of the business, define their roles for

themselves, identify the ways to be most effective in their work, see past business area

boxes, and say goodbye to blind spots. With a richer understanding of where to focus your

attention you’ll leave with a list of Challenges and Opportunities to take forward!

Our Art of Business Development Workshop will place you at the centre of the Big Picture

process. We’ll explore visual representations of business challenges and utilise our Big

Picture tool to overcome these issues, identifying the key elements of the business and the

part they play in a successful operation.

By working through exercises where you’ll play the role of the Business Owner, Employee

and Change Practitioner, weaving Big Picture into formal business processes like Team,

Page 2: The expression or application of human creative skill and ... · Fortunately, we have taken our 25 years of experience working with businesses big and small, private and public, and

Strategy and Planning Meetings, you’ll see first-hand, how Big Picture can help to engage

the individual in, and increase connectivity to the business, developing a rich understanding

of its workings as they go. With Big Picture creating an over-head view of the organisation,

we can get out of those business area boxes, and say goodbye to our blind spots, for true,

measurable, people engagement and business development.

Audience-

You are passionate about your people being the driving force behind the success of your

business and so you will benefit from the immense value we will generate through this

immersive Workshop if you identify with:

● The Business Owner - Leading a people-first, values-based, organisation willing to

give your people a voice

● The Change Practitioner - Using the latest in techniques and tools that engage and

invigorate change from the inside-out

● The Consultant - Using the latest in techniques and tools that engage and invigorate

change for the clients you serve

● The Employee – With a desire to have a two-way dialogue in the workplace.

Big Picture-

To fully engage your people, with limited resources, you’ve got to be smart and think outside

of the box. Fundamentally, you can’t be with your employees every minute of their working

day, nor should you need to, so flip the thinking. Give employees the ability to build their own

understanding of the business, define their roles, identify the ways to be most effective in

their work, and as a result, they’re engaged in the business via a two-way dialogue and an

opportunity to bring their experience and voice to proceedings.

The versatility of Big Picture means this end-to-end employee experience can be woven into

more formal business practises, such as Team, Strategy and Planning Meetings, to facilitate

the development of the business and its people.

Credibility-

We know how tough it is to wring out every drop of value from the resources you do have.

Fortunately, we have taken our 25 years of experience working with businesses big and

small, private and public, and distilled all the best bits into the patterns and behaviours that

can be consumed and applied by you, here and now.

What to expect? Approach-

Coming together with other professionals in a collaborative environment, you’ll apply your

knowledge to the adaptive Big Picture framework to serve your circumstances and needs.

Exercises will, at times, encourage attendees to work from the perspective of the Business

Owner, Employee and Change Practitioner, for either the organisation in which they work, or

if you prefer, our example business, BOBC.

Page 3: The expression or application of human creative skill and ... · Fortunately, we have taken our 25 years of experience working with businesses big and small, private and public, and

Big Picture will provide a unique way to frame a business challenge and will help light the

path forward throughout this experiential workshop.

Identifying the challenges, and illuminating the opportunities, helping to discover your own

blind spots and uncover ways in which you can be more effective in the business, you’ll see

how Big Picture brings the organisation, and it’s key elements to life, aligning those within

the business with unified focus and engagement in their roles.

The Art of Business Development workshop will be split into Acts and Scenes, much like in a

play, where each new scene develops the tale, revealing progression in the story.

Act 1- Current Focus

Not more change? Yes, more change. This is our great chance to make change work!

Every company’s in flux. Some more than others.

Let’s take a look at what’s happening.

A Big Picture practitioner will welcome you into the approach encouraging you to enter into a

dialogue with your colleagues about how you see the business you know about from your

perspective.

This exercise will take your view, and consolidate it with those of others, to develop what we

call the ‘ground truth’ that we will use to focus on the key Challenges that face the business

right now. Initially an explore around the business you will work through a prioritisation

exercise to focus in on the Opportunities that will take you forward.

Page 5: The expression or application of human creative skill and ... · Fortunately, we have taken our 25 years of experience working with businesses big and small, private and public, and

Act 1 Scene 1 – Your Voice

As one of the team, you’ll be provided with some Big Picture Kit to begin expressing your

thoughts from your own perspective. Quickly familiarised with the Big Picture symbols and

the lay-out of the Big Picture board, you’ll begin to join your own dots, bringing your

knowledge, background and culture to proceedings, opening a two-way dialogue about the

business.

Explore how Technology, Measures, Money and Process impact your world of work. Zone in

on Team and Customer and how business Challenges could be overcome, and

Opportunities delivered.

This is all about a structured conversation that is healthy and wholesome to get things

started. By sharing real-world experiences of their own perspectives, the group will discuss

the key connections that help them make sense of their role in the business you know about.

Page 6: The expression or application of human creative skill and ... · Fortunately, we have taken our 25 years of experience working with businesses big and small, private and public, and

Act 1 Scene 2 – Ground Truth

After a while, you'll be tired of working on your own, and so for a change of scene you will be

up on your feet sharing your view with fellow attendees. Pairing-up, you’ll each take the role

of either Employee or Business Owner and practice the conversation that might take place.

Then we’ll turn the roles around. If you’re focusing on different businesses, then you’ll be

prompted to compare connections between the two using patterns amongst the symbols in

front of you.

You’ll be consolidating key information that helps you better understand the Challenges and

Opportunities in the business, and your part to play in it. We will use the Big Picture board at

the front of the room to bring together common themes and discussion points. In doing so,

you will exercise the kinds of skills that Change Practitioners use to analyse and synthesise

the information that enables businesses to be successful.

Page 7: The expression or application of human creative skill and ... · Fortunately, we have taken our 25 years of experience working with businesses big and small, private and public, and

Act 1 Scene 3 – Our Focus Now!

Working with your colleagues, it’s time to apply your rich understanding of the business and

hone in on the Challenges and Opportunities that you feel, as a team, should become the

focus now. We’ll help you cut through the noise, and by agreeing some parameters, you’ll

begin prioritising the work you feel would most benefit the business.

You will be invited to play your part by applying the guidance and suggestions from the Big

Picture Practitioner who will guide and support you to do so effectively. If comfortable to will

be asked to help others by adopting the role of Change Practitioner to ensure you can take

on the role back in your business. Sometimes sat, and other times stood, you'll play an

active part in a healthy, open and productive conversation about where the business needs

to be focusing now.

Your take-away from Act 1, is the experience of how you and your colleagues would feel as

part of the change process, and in addition, the work you may need to do to introduce Big

Picture into your business.

Page 8: The expression or application of human creative skill and ... · Fortunately, we have taken our 25 years of experience working with businesses big and small, private and public, and

Act 2- Future Plans

How can you be sure your longer-term plans are going to get you to where you need to be?

Are they based on the kind of foundation that actually delivers measured and lasting

outcomes from the actions you generate?

You spend so much time in the business, rather than on the business, that you’re struggling

to answer this question. Just take a firm resolve to lay down the building blocks that

generate the most output from the effort you’re all putting in. How will this one turn out?

Page 9: The expression or application of human creative skill and ... · Fortunately, we have taken our 25 years of experience working with businesses big and small, private and public, and

Act 2 Scene 1 – Aligning Purpose, Customer and Value

As a backdrop for your Future Plans, you will develop a view of what we see as the three

corners of a successful change initiative triangle. This translates, rather elegantly, into your

Big Picture board, helping the conversations continue to flow.

Relating to our wealth of experience using Big Picture, provided to us from over 1,600 BP

sessions, the goal of this exercise is to (re)define the Purpose of the business. We’ll touch

on why it is here, your Customers, those you provide Value to, and how you create that

Value through the Products and Services you offer. You will be guided to work with your

colleagues for the organisation in which you are familiar with. There will be an opportunity for

you to apply your own in-house strategies and to share these with others in the Workshop,

should you feel comfortable to.

Here you’ll see how Big Picture can provide an essential, and powerful, backdrop for your

Future Plans developing outcomes with confidence.

Page 10: The expression or application of human creative skill and ... · Fortunately, we have taken our 25 years of experience working with businesses big and small, private and public, and

Act 2 Scene 2 – Creating Action

Guided by us, and adopting the role of Change Practitioner, you’ll help others apply their

new learnings (documented on the developing Big Picture board at the front of the room) to

inspire action. Using a relevant example of a Challenge, you’ll set the scene in the room,

helping others to take the reins and join their own dots, to encourage a change in behaviour

resulting in an action, informed by your own knowledge and Big Picture.

We’ll experience together how Big Picture helps take the negative energy surrounding

Challenges, and through definition, and including Measures into the mix, translates that into

a positive force around Opportunities.

This engaging approach encourages action, for the defined Measures to be met, starting

from the point of perspective of each individual, whilst at the same time contributing to other

Measures that define success for the business. This is always a wicked problem that

businesses face that the Big Picture approach naturally lends itself with the employee at the

centre. Rather than broadcasting targets top-down and outside-in, basically telling

employees about things they care less about, here we’re engaging bottom-up and inside-out

to power the business along.

Page 11: The expression or application of human creative skill and ... · Fortunately, we have taken our 25 years of experience working with businesses big and small, private and public, and

Act 2 Scene 3 – Lasting Outcomes

You’ll play a range of roles in this act! For the business you are most familiar with we’ll help

you play the roles of Business Owner, Employee and Change Practitioner, to create the

conditions to sustain an ongoing stream of measured and lasting outcomes. Rather than

focusing on the contents of the Big Picture board, we will explore the engaging practices that

Big Picture provides as a positive infrastructure for your success.

We, as Change Practitioners, can’t be around all the time, and so we’re all about helping the

team to help themselves. This is about taking responsibility- as the ultimate engagement

tool, Big Picture does this naturally, and so our activity here is to introduce, compare, and

contrast approaches, given the knowledge we have of how our business works.

We’ll bring the workshop to a close with a masterclass, where attendees will share views,

and using the Big Picture board at the front of the room, come and showcase their new

lightbulb moments!

Not only will you have harvested a series of Challenges, Opportunities, and actions here, we

will put a frame around your work to ensure that they become measured and lasting

outcomes. Your take-away is the practical knowledge of how this kind of Business

Development will work back in your organisation. To further help you weave this into the

work you do all attendees will also receive a free half-day consultation with YourBigPic

founder, and creator of Big Picture, Martin Johnson, to discuss how Big Picture Kits,

Workshops and Programmes can help your business.

We’ll be done- thoroughly thoughtful and full of ideas!

Praise for Big Picture

“An elegant tool– simple, visual and very naturally human”

“Makes sense of beautifully complex and evolving businesses”

“Provides clarity of purpose and alignment for everyone involved”

Workshop Testimony

“In terms of delivery, we have a very strong culture in language that we tend to use at River Island, so

I’d put my own stamp on it, but I love the structure of this (Big Picture) board/map. I think it allows

people to very clearly see how things impact on each other. People can make tangible connections

and see the knock-on effects for all other departments and teams”

“I think it's a really good visual way of problem solving and onboarding as well. Compared to a lot of

training sessions, it's great facilitation, it gets us involved straight away. It's a different way of

approaching it, it's visual. This is a completely different way of approaching it, which I think is very

refreshing. It's fun and engaging. Everyone has been thoroughly engaged in using our brains and

that's what you want people to do.”

“I think this has the most value for me in the whole onboarding piece, to really help a new team

member understand and get that clarity about the contribution their role requires, what they do and

how that impacts everything else in the organisation. Because if you can get that right for people right

at the beginning, they're going to feel more valued. And they're going to have a higher level of

motivation.”

“Such an awesome workshop - loved the interactivity of the exercises. The workshop has provoked

me to think about my team from a new perspective. Honestly a great session, really provoked my

thinking so thanks!”

“Everyone thought Martin's session was fantastic, not only was it lively and engaging, it got everyone

talking about different ways of engaging our employees and exploring new business opportunities.

Martin is incredibly enthusiastic about the Big Picture concept. He has a great energy which is very

contagious! Highly recommended.”

“There were some huge light bulb moments for the team leaders, leading to some fantastic action

points which helped avoid conflict and improve the quality of products.”

“I found the use of Big Picture hugely engaging. This coupled with time to personally work on the 'Big

Picture' model will ensure that the learning of the session sticks. Thanks for a great session that took

into account differing learning styles.” Kay
