Abu lahab is the uncle of the Messenger (sallahAllaahu alayhi wasallam) , and he used to

be stern in his enmity [ and harming ] the Messenger (sallahAllaahu alayhi wasallam) .

He had no religion , nor any respect of the ties of relations may Allaah destroy him .

So Allaah degraded him with this great affliction. And this is continuous until the Day of

    Judgment.

    So Allaah said :

    }{

Perish the two hands of Ab Lahab

Meaning : full of lose and misery; are his hands ,

    }{ and perish he!

And [so] he will never have any gain ..

}{ His wealth will not benefit him!

That which he used to have and transgress with.

It will not , be of any gain ; thus it will Not reduce anything from the punishment of

Allaah ; when the punishment descends on him .

    }{

He will be burnt in a Fire of blazing flames!

Meaning : the Fire will encompass him from all directions , him [and] .

    }{

And his wife too, who carries wood

And she too , used to be stern in her enmity and harming the Messenger (sallahAllaahu

    alayhi wasallam) .

Co operating her and her husband in transgression and sin , and inflicting harm .

And she used to do all that which is possible ; in her harming of the Messenger

    (sallahAllaahu alayhi wasallam) .

And she used to bear the main plans and responsibility [of these plans] , just like the

person who carries the wood on her back.

She has been promised on her neck , a rope .

    }{

    Of masad

    Meaning : made of fiber

Or [another meaning of the verse] ; it is that she will be carrying firewood for her

husband , while in the hell fire .

While [she is] being tied with a rope of fiber on her neck.

And in all : this is one of the clearest signs ; from the signs of Allaah.

Indeed Allaah sent down this Surah while Abu lahab and his wife had not yet died : and

He informed them , that they will be punished in the fire, and it will surely happen.

And what necessitates that ; is that they will not accept Islaam.

And surely it occurred ; as Allaah , The Knower of the Apparent and the Unseen : had

    informed.

    *

When comes the Help of Allh, and the conquest (of Makkah),

    *

And you see that the people enter Allh's religion (Islm) in crowds,

    .

So glorify the Praises of your Lord, and ask for His Forgiveness. Verily, He is the One

Who accepts the repentance and forgives.

    The Tafseer :

In this noble surah is : news of glad tidings , and a command for His Messenger upon the

    occurrence of this glad tidings.

And also ; [the surah contains] an indication and a sign of the consequences of that

    occurrence.

As for the glad tidings : they are the glad tidings of The Help of Allaah upon His

Messenger , and the conquest of Makkah , and the entering of the people into Allh's

religion (Islm) in crowds : such that most of them will become its [the religions] people

and its supporters after they were its enemy.

And this did occur , as proclaimed .

As for the command which came as a consequence of this victory and conquest : it is the

command that Allaah gave His Messenger ; that he should thank Allaah because of this ,

and to glorify His Praises, and ask for His Forgiveness.

And as for the signs and consequences [of the occurrences] , then there are two of

    them :

    1. A sign that Help will continue for this religion .

And that it increases with the glorifying of His Praises, and by His Messenger asking for

    His Forgiveness .

Indeed this is from the giving of thanks. And Allaah says :

  • 8/2/2019 The Explanation of Various Chapters from the Quran - Shaikh 'Abdur-Rahman as-Sa'adi

    7/58

    almuflihoon.com

}{"If you give thanks (by accepting Faith and worshipping none but Allh), I will give you

    more (of My Blessings)

    [ Suratu Ibraheem : 7 ]

And this occurred and happened ; during the era of the Khulafaa ar-rashideen ( The

Rightly Guided Khalifas) , and [also those] after them ; from this Ummah (nation) .

The Help of Allaah never ceased .

To the point where Islaam reached to the places where other religions never reached ,

and people entered into it [ in crowds ]; in a way people hadnt accepted any other

    religion.

Until the Ummah began innovating what is in opposition to the commands of Allaah ,

then : Allaah tried them by dividing their stance , and dispersal of their command : Sothen their occurred what occurred.

And [ on top of this ] , by The Mercy of Allaah and His Kindness this Nation and this

Religion: cannot be changed by mere imaginations , nor is it in risk [because Allaah has

    promised to preserve it] .

    2. The second consequence is : that the death of The Prophet sallahAllaahu alayhi

wasallam has drawn near and close.

And this is shown by His command (on him sallahAllaahu alayhi wasallam).

    (The command to seek forgiveness).

It is known that the virtuous actions are usually ended by seeking forgiveness : for

example Salaat (prayer) , Hajj (pilgrimage) , and other acts.

So Allaah commanded His Prophet to glorify His Praises, and ask for His Forgiveness : in

    this instant.

A sign that ; his time (of death) has come near.

So he should start preparing and getting ready to meet His Lord.

And that he should end his affair (life) , by doing the most virtuous of deeds. (may

Allaahs mercy and blessings be upon him).

So he sallahAllaahu alayhi wasallam used to make his primary affair the Quran ,

And he used to say in his prayer ; he used to increase in his rukoo (bowing) and sujood

    (prostration) saying :

"."Far removed from all imperfections are You , O Allaah , and all perfect praise is for

You ; may Lord forgive me.1

*Say [ O Muhammad (sallahAllaahu alayhi wasallam) to these Mushrikn and Kfirn]:

"O Al-Kfirn (disbelievers in Allh, in His Oneness, in His Angels, in His Books, in His

Messengers, in the Day of Resurrection, and in Al-Qadar, etc.)!

    *

"I worship not that which you worship,

    * "Nor will you worship that which I worship.

    *

"And I shall not worship that which you are worshipping.

    *

"Nor will you worship that which I worship.

Meaning ; say to the disbelievers clearly and openly :

"I worship not that which you worship,

Meaning : distance yourself from that which they worship -other than Allaah- openly

    and secretly.

"Nor will you worship that which I worship.

Because you lack ikhlaas (complete sincerity) in your worship to Him ; [you dont single

    Him out alone] .

So your acts of worship (Ibaada) , which are based upon shirk (setting up partners to

Allaah) ; are not regarded as Ibaada ( acts of worship to Allaah).

    Then He repeated this .

So the first time is to show that , this is a negation of the carrying out of these actions.

And the second time is to declare that , this has become a bounding and obligatory

    description.

    And thus ;

A distinction was drawn between the two groups.

And a differentiation [was clear] between the two parties .

Allaah The Exalted , says to His Messenger Muhammad sallahAllaahu alayhi wasallam -

    promising :

    Verily, We have granted you Al-Kawthar ;

Meaning : abundant good , and great favours which will be given By Allaah to His

    Messenger sallahAllaahu alayhi wasallam.

And from those which will be given to him on the day of judgment is : a river which is

called Al-Kawthar; and also the pond which is called ; Al-Kawthar.1

Its length ; is the distance of one month, and its width ; is the distance of one month ,

Its water is more white than milk , and more sweet than honey ,

Its drinking vessels are many and spread like the number of stars in the sky .

Whoever drinks from it one time ; will never become thirsty ever after.

1In his tafseer , Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen explains -what means - : The river in Paradise given to him

(sallahAllaahu alayhi wasallam) is al-kawthar ; and the hawdh (the pond) [where he (sallahAllaahu alayhi

wasallam) will meet his followers and let them drink from it ] ; after the Judgement has been completed ,

    is also called a l-kawthar.

This is because the water of the hawdh , is from the river which is based in the Highest Paradise.

So the river pours its water into the pond which is out of Paradise -and will be present on the day of

Judgement- for those who truly followed the sunnah of the prophet (sallahAllaahu alayhi wasallam).

    He ordered him to thank Him for these ;

    So He said :

Therefore turn in prayer to your Lord and sacrifice (to Him only).

Specified in mention ; are these two types of worship : because they are from the best

of types of worship , and [they are] among the supreme ways of seeking closeness [to

    Allaah].

And this is indeed because :

Salaat (prayer) implies humility , and submission of the heart and the limbs : to Allaah.

And it is an expression of the various forms of servitude.

And in slaughtering , is getting close to Allaah by :

    - (offering )the best of which the slave has , from the animals to be slaughtered.

    - giving out the wealth which is loved and sought by ; by the soul.

Thus they are neglectful in the Salt (prayer) ; which is the most important obedience

and the best means of getting closer to Allaah.

Neglectfulness and mindlessness concerning the Salt (prayer) ; is what renders a

person to deserve the rebuking , the warnings , and the blame.

But as for loss of attention during the Salt (prayer) ; then this might occur In

everybody , even the prophet (sallahAllaahu alayhi wasallam).

And Thus , Allaah describes these people [who are neglectful concerning observing theirprayers] that : they are hard-hearted , lacking mercy , and are people ofriyaa (doing

actions for other than Allaah : to show off).

    So He said :

} { Those who do good deeds only to be seen (of men),

Meaning : they just do the actions because of showing off to people

    } {..And refuse to give Al-M'n .

Meaning : they hold back giving out things ; things of which if they were to give them

out , it wont even harm them a little : like a utensil , or a bucket , or an axe , and

things like these : of which it has been custom to misuse them and take them for

    granted.

So these people ; due to their severity : they refuse to give out Al-M'n (small

kindnesses etc.) : so what about those things which are greater ?

    - There is an incitement and emphasis in being generous [ and kind ] to the orphans ,

    and the poor people.

And being prompt in this action.

    - And the incitement and emphasis of observing the prayer and establishing it on time.

    - Having ikhlaas (sincerity of intention to Allaah alone) in it [the prayer] ; and in all the

    actions.

    - And the urging and encouragement of doing the good deeds.

    - And being freely generous in the small deeds ; like lending out utensils , or buckets , or

a book , and things like these.

This is because , Allaah has rebuked and censured the one who does not do this.

He put him in the care of his uncle Abu Twaalib ; up until the time when He made him

    }{

And He found you unaware and guided you?

And this includes : the one who asks for wealth , and the one who asks for knowledge.

Thus the teacher is commanded to have the best manners towards the student, and [is

also commanded to be] accepting him by nobleness, and being tender and sympathetic.

Indeed that is an aid to him ; in what he wants to achieve , and it is a more precious

honor to the one who is striving to benefit the slaves and the lands.

    }{

And as for the Grace of your Lord. And this is inclusive of the religious and the worldly favours

    }{

    ..then proclaim them.

Meaning : praise Allaah -with the perfect praises- by these bounties [which He gave

    you].

And whenever there is [specific] benefit ; then mention them specifically.

Other than that ; then mention and talk about the favours of Allaah unrestrictedly.

Indeed in the proclamation of the bounties of Allaah ; is a means of calling to being

thankful and grateful to Allaah because of these favours.

And it also necessitates the heart to have love for The One who granted it the bounties .

Verily the hearts are attached to loving the one who does good.
