Please bring a salad, vegetable, bread or dessert. Embracing Health & Movement Please join us on Wednesday April 13 th at St. Pauls Episcopal Church for our first class, Embracing Health & Movement. This class will offer a safe place to move and connect with your body and breath as we flow through a series of gentle stretches. These moves can be done standing, on the floor, or in a chair! All moves can be modified to suit your individual needs. We know that it is important to stay healthy and that keeping our bones and muscles strong is part of our overall health. It is known that gentle movements, when we use our own body weight as resistance, is key to healthy bones. When performed on a regular basis the benefits are amazing! Stress relief, pain relief, increased flexibility and strength, cardiovascular condi- tioning, improved circulation and inner peace……are just some of the things you will notice! This class is open to the community; no experience is necessary. Stretching and exercise modi- fications will be shown throughout the class so that everyone can enjoy. Our first class is FREE!! This class will then be offered weekly, Wednesday mornings from 11:00- 11:45AM, $5.00 per class. We hope to see you there. Bring a friend and start enjoying a healthier, stronger YOU! The class is facilitated by Lauren Hewton, certified yoga instructor, and will be held at St. Pauls Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 215 Ann Street, Beaufort, NC. Prayer Shawls Members (women and men) and friends of St Pauls are invited to knit and crochet Prayer Shawls to give to those who are sick, hospitalized, and terminally ill. Woven into the stitches of the shawls are prayers for healing and comfort. If you would like to help with this ministry, please contact Sarah Smith at 910-330-3663 or sarahsmithgood- [email protected]. There will be a meeting on Monday, April 11 th at 10:00 in the par- ish hall. We would love to have you join us. Two Fish Café is a ministry that helps needy people with meals at Calvary Baptist Church at 6 pm on Thursday evening. St. Paul’s is responsible for cooking and serving the meal on the 4th Thursday. There is a sign up be-side the kitchen on the bulletin board. Contact Anette Cruse , 252-729-3081.

Five Loaves mission meets every Monday at First Baptist Church. We can use volunteers from 5-7:30pm and servers from 6-6:45pm. It is an ecu-menical outreach between St. Paul’s and First Baptist Church’s members serving a hot supper to anyone needing a meal and fellowship. Contact Nancy Ustach, 252-728-6811.

April Outreach — Family Promise of Carteret County St. Paul’s outreach project for April is Family Promise of Carteret County, which is made up of thirty-four county churches. Its mission is to provide temporary, safe hous-ing for homeless women and children. The program provides job training for the moth-ers, including computer training, resume preparation, job interviewing techniques, and child rearing skills among others. The training and child care for preschool children take place at the Family Promise Day Center on 35th Street in Morehead City. Guests rotate among the fourteen host churches with volunteers providing meals and overnight coverage. Each church hosts for one week once every three months. A support church is paired with each host church. Support churches typically do not have the space to host guests but can help with transportation, setup, food, etc. St. Paul’s helped initiate this program in Carteret County. Here at St. Paul’s we have successfully hosted Family Promise guests quarterly since October 9–15, 2011. Parishioners generously give their time and talent to set up and break down sleeping spaces, prepare and serve food, spend the night, and provide transportation to and from the Morehead City Family Promise Center. There is much work yet to be done as this outreach continues to develop. Vol-unteers are encouraged to contact Laura Mosier at 252-728-6822.

Vestry Highlights St. Paul’s Episcopal Church

March 16, 2016

The Vestry met in monthly session in the Parish Hall. The following members were present, Dick Barber, Sandy Brock, George Eastman, Jack Gardner, Mary Duane Hale, Donnie Lee, Rob MacArthur, Vicki Morris, Lynda Phillips, Walter Phillips, Sylvia Wheatly. Father John Carlisto and George Dill, Treasure, were also present. Father John called the meeting to order. The financial report was approved as presented. Twenty-four % of budgeted pledges and other income were received through the end of February 2016. Budgeted expenses were at 16%. An amended resolution designating individuals authorized to sign checks was approved. The Junior Warden reported that Pullman Landscaping will have church grounds pre-sentable for Easter. New commission chairs were asked to update their brochure and return to church office. In New Business Mary Duane Hale nominated Paula King and Alicia Ragsdale to serve as Trinity Deanery Lay Representatives from St. Paul’s, seconded by Walter Phillips, and motion carried unanimously. The next Vestry meeting will be April 20, 2016.

Food Pantry Head Needed We need a volunteer willing to oversee the Food Pantry ministry. This job involves let-ting the staff know when food is needed so it can be advertised in the bulletin, putting incoming food on shelves and checking canned and other food “use by” dates so we do not give out expired food. If you are interested, please call the church office (252) 728-3324 or contact Richard Barber, Outreach Commission Chairman (252) 729-3838.

Our Annual Lenten Retreat was Saturday, March 5 at the Trinity Center,

led by The Rev. Canon Matthew Stockard. “Four Things I Learned About Life As

A Christian While Studying In A Remote Zen Monastery,” the topic for our Len-

ten Quiet day, proved to be an inspiring study! The group of 35 + enjoyed pray-

ers to begin the day, a multi-media presentation with group Reflection Times,

Quiet Times, Holy Eucharist, and a delicious buffet lunch. The day was beautiful

and the only complaint was that it passed too quickly! Having members from

three Episcopal Churches: St Andrews, St. Francis by the Sea, and St. Chris-

topher’s take part made the event extra special!

Remember that the 128th ECW Annual Spring Meeting will be at St. John’s, Fayetteville on Wednesday, April 27. The guest speaker will be The Rev. Lauren Winner. Besides being an Episcopal priest and vicar, Lauren is a teacher, lecturer, and writer – in 2012 she was selected by Christianity Today as one of the “50 Women that you should know”. She will speak to us on “Metaphors for God –Looking at the Many Ways God Speaks in Our Lives.” The lunch on Wednesday is $15.00. Please consider registering for the meeting online or by mail. The website is http://form.jotform.com/60191434367960 and you can pay by credit card. If you choose to mail you can send a check to: St. John’s ECW, 302 Green Street Fayetteville, NC 28301 Hope some folks from St. Paul’s will be able to attend! Needed: Chairpersons for UTO, CPC, and for many areas of our annual Fall Har-vest Bazaar to be held, Saturday, November 12! Remember that all women in the church are a part of ECW. We need lots of enthusiasm, energy, ideas and leadership! Please let a board member know what area you will chair or co-chair. Patti Dill ECW President [email protected]

More News and Notes

Russian Vocal Group-LYRA-Is Back! The Russian vocal group LYRA, from St. Petersburg, Russia, will make its fifth appearance at St. Paul’s on Tuesday, May 3 at 6:30 pm. LYRA is a community of pro-fessional musicians, most of whom are students or graduates of the St. Petersburg Con-servatory that sing in churches and musical theaters throughout the city. Though mem-bers of LYRA represent different musical professions-choral conductors, opera singers, instrumentalists and music teachers-it is their passion for ensemble singing that unites them. LYRA includes 25 people, but due to the logistics of international touring, they perform in smaller groups of soloists. With sacred chants of the Russian Orthodox Church and Russian folk songs, the program promises to please. The concert is free and open to the public. A love offering will be collected to offset the groups’ travel costs.

Church Periodical Club –CPC The Church Periodical Club first sent the Word West in 1888 on Wells Fargo stage-coaches. Today the organizations delivery systems have changed but not the commit-ment to supplying theological and educational materials in support of mission efforts around the world. There is an unending list of projects in juvenile facilities, hospitals, libraries, schools and companion dioceses. From sending books to Daniel Webster as he explored beyond the Arctic Circle to providing our own seminarian students with funds to purchase their educational materials, CPC is changing the world one book at a time! Remember to support on CPC Sunday, May 15, 2016. Contact Patti Dill CPC coor-dinator , Diocese of North Carolina, if you have any questions.
