Reaching Our Culture:
I recently finished the book Onward: Engaging the Culture Without Losing the Gospel by Rus-
sell Moore. The book is about reaching out to our communities in a rapidly changing
world. Moore describes a new world in which Christianity is foreign. He says, “We will
be forced to articulate things we once could assume.” The Christian message is becoming
ridiculed and followers of Christ are viewed as strangers in America.
The church simply cannot keep doing things the way we’ve always done them. We can reach into our godless
culture without compromising the saving message of Jesus Christ. But we must be courageous. We cannot be
paranoid that our little societies of Christian circles will become contaminated by the world if we let go of
tradition.
We must never compromise the inerrancy of Scripture, the substitutionary atonement of Christ, and His
resurrection. We must not let go of the moral high ground as defined by the Bible. We must remain clearly
pro-life and biblically sound the definition of marriage. We can do this lovingly to a society that is hostile to
truth.
Followers of Christ will be seen more and more as freaks. Moore states, “Our message will be seen as in-
creasingly freakish to American culture. Let’s embrace the freakishness, knowing that such freakishness is the
power of God unto salvation.”
So, let’s get busy praying! Let’s get busy building intentional relationships for the purpose of sharing Christ!
Let’s get busy making disciples! Let’s get busy changing! All in a world that no longer recognizes Christianity
as serious. Spiritual life will come to our communities only through prayer as we share the gospel and make
disciples.
In Christ Alone,
Pastor Brad

Evangelism Explosion Sunday
Don’t miss church March 13! Our guest speaker Langdon Stewart will encourage and equip us to reach people for Christ. Stay afterwards for a free lunch and evangelism training from1-4pm by Langdon. This will be followed by a thirteen week class on Wednesday nights starting Mar. 30 in the East Wing 6:30-8:30pm. During the first 4 weeks we’ll stay at church and concentrate on role-playing but starting week 5, those that feel ready will be going out to share the Gospel! Even if you’ve taken EE before, please attend to help support and train the new folks! We’ll be using some new video based training called XEE.
What led western culture to conclude that God is dead?
How did we get into this mess?
Spring 2016 Class:
The History of
Ideas
Wednesday
February 3rd
7:00-8:00PM
West Wing
This 8 week class will explore how western
thinking developed, and specifically how it
moved away from Christianity. Why is it im-
portant to understand this? First, Christians
need to protect the church from wrong ideas
which constantly try to creep in. Second, the
better we understand western culture, the better
we will know how to reach it for Christ. This
class will be taught by Adam Johnson.
