A message from the THINK TEAM…… Wow! Who would have ever thought a space ship would have landed in our playground? We were so lucky to have our friend Retro Reflective come and visit us last Friday and bring his friend Pop Pop the Problem Solver. They brought each of us a box of activities and resources that are going to help us to be problem solvers. During our launch day, we participated in a whole school STEM challenge where groups were required to make the tallest rocket for Pop Pop using only newspaper and masking tape. There were some very innovative designs and everyone used their problem-solving strategies to create an amazing rocket. After lunch, everyone participated in a range of problem solving challenges. During this time, Pop Pop and Retro came to visit each of the classes to measure their rockets and to see what great problem solvers we have at Elderslie PS. In the afternoon, we all had an assembly to farewell Retro and Pop Pop and to celebrate the awesome problem solving that they saw during the day. We hope they come back again soon. A special thanks to Mrs April Green for her amazing talent and hard work in bringing our characters to life and Mr Martin Sutton for helping us bring Retro and Pop Pop to Elderslie PS.

Antarctica
K/6B, K/6M and K/6P went to Antarctica. Miss Parrott’s room was made very cold and had snow all over it. Students participated in several different activities to experience what it would be like to stay in Antarctica.
We went to Mr Evans room and did an ice challenge. We put our hand in - 8 degrees water and left it there as long as we could, then we put wax on our hands and a glove to see how long we could keep our hands in the water - James C. This experiment taught us how blubber works. We went into Mrs Badewitz room, we did an experiment about how big the bottom of an iceberg is. The top is little – Jack G. In Miss Parrott’s room students tasted different foods that can be used on a trek in Antarctica. We tried some Spaghetti Bolognaise, breakfast and Apple Pie, it was yum – Zara W. Antarctica is a desert that has all sorts of different animals. –Braythe N. We had a snow ball fight! - Lily I. This is awesome –Jake C.

Kiss and Drop Reminder
It has been brought to the attention of staff that parents are using the Kiss and Drop Zone as a parking bay (i.e. parents are remaining in the car for extended periods of time) rather than a ‘Kiss and Drop’. For all intended purposes the Kiss and Drop Zone at the front of the school should have a steady stream of cars accessing and leaving the zone on a regular basis. Please support this practice to ensure the safety of ALL our students.

Students Toilets
It has been brought to the attention of staff that parents are using the student toilets of a morning and at school pick up. Near the hall there is a disabled toilet which is open for all parents to use so you do not need to use the student’s toilets.
Gymnastic Reminder – Term 3
A reminder that permission notes for the gymnastics program that will run in Term Three went home last week.
Notes are due to the office by Friday the 29th June.
We encourage all students to take up this opportunity. Payment plans or student assistance can also be arranged with the office. Pre-School Visit Blinky Bills
It’s hard to believe that we are already planning for our new Kindergarten students and their families for next year! Kindergarten teachers visited Blinky Bill’s Preschool last Tuesday night to provide families with a presentation about school readiness for next year. We look forward to creating relationships with all of our new Kindergarten students and their families to make positive connections to school. We will be sharing our school readiness presentation at a number of preschools in the next few weeks. If you have any questions about your child starting school next year, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are taking enrolments for next year so please come along and collect your enrolment papers from the front office. Details about our Kindergarten Orientation program will be posted to families in Term 3. We are very excited to meet all of our Kindergarten students starting in 2019!

Festival of Instrumental Music 2018
On Sunday 17th June Mrs Marino and 9 girls from her recorder group took part in the Festival of Instrumental Music. This took place in the Concert Hall at the Sydney Opera House. For the last 5 months these students have been spending their lunches, recesses and spare time at home practising for this concert. They learned 3 pieces of music: Norwegian Dance, Different Worlds and Handel Highlights, all three pieces had to be learnt so they could play without music in front of them. They played with over 700 other students from across the state and performed the finale Handel Highlights with over 1000 students including a string section. Mrs Marino is incredibly proud of these girls and all the hard work they put in to this concert. She would also like to thank all the parents who have supported this from the beginning and came out in support on Sunday night.
