Capital Campaign Update – Total Numbers as of February 27, 2019

Phase I Pledges $ 2,947,751Phase II Pledges $ 797,426 Total all Pledges $ 3,745,177 Goal $ 4,064,672 Balance Needed $ 319,495 Total Cash Received $ 2,581,490

Capital Campaign Accomplishments: • A New Latchkey building that is clean, safe and warm for all of our Students here at St. Pius X Church and School to use daily. • A New Youth Ministry Center that gives our treasured youth a place to gather, learn and live their Faith. • A Storage Area that saves the Church, School and all Ministries over $12,000.00 each year so they can spend these hard earned

funds in their programs and ministries.• Six additional meeting rooms for our Parish and Ministries. Having access to state of the art Audio Visual Systems to teach young

and old about our Faith in Jesus Christ. • A Commercial kitchen that can feed 300 with ease. Many events scheduled the next few months like Pasta Dinners, Fish Fries for

Lent, and Pancake Breakfasts on various Sundays after the 8:30 and 10:15 Masses.• A New Revenue Stream for our Parish to help defray all new operating costs for our New Build.• We have been so very successful with our Capital Campaign, another Parish in the Diocese has met with us to see the best way

to run their Capital Campaign.

December 23, we announced our new goal for our “Continuing To Renew All Things In Christ” Capital Campaign. That goal of $4,064,672.00 left us with $449,617.00 to raise. In 9 weeks, we have received $130,122.00 toward this new goal or a balance of $319,496.00. We have also received over $2.5 million in cash for the Campaign. Thank you all very much for your continued generosity. Continued communications with Joe Neville from Guidance In Giving is always filled with praise and surprise at how well you all have supported our Capital Campaign. “So very generous” is what we continue to hear from Joe about our parishioners. He encourages all of us to stay on this wonderful path of ours. We hope by summer, if our parishioners continue this process of giving from the heart, WE WILL start on the expansion of our Narthex.

Father Dave, John Beyer and the Campaign Staff are asking all of our parishioners and friends to do three things. First, please continue to pray for the success of our Capital Campaign. Second, please be generous with your continued pledges. And third, continue to be an Ambassador by becoming informed and involved, enthusiastically sharing this information with as many people as you can, and encouraging others to become involved, and invite others to attend our functions in the New Hall. Please take the time to respond to the mailing we sent to all registered families. We have heard from 697 of our 2,059 registered families for Phase I. We have heard from 410 families out of 2,054 families registered at St. Pius X for Phase II. If you have pledged toward Phase I, thank you. If you have pledged toward Phase II, thank you again. If you have not pledged, please prayerfully consider a sacrificial pledge for Phase II. If you are able to increase the length of time for your pledge, please respond via email to [email protected] or drop a note in the offertory. We have asked all of our parishioners to extend their pledges from 2 or 3 years to 5 or 8 or even 10 years. Many of you have listened and have done this. This is why we continue to make weekly strides. Please consider extending the years on your pledge.

If you ever notice any issue with your Capital Campaign billing statement or update letter, please give John Beyer a call at the Parish Office and these will be updated immediately.

Please continue your support of our Church and School by your prayers and offertory tithing during our Capital Campaign build. Please be thankful for all that we have here at St. Pius X Church and School.

ENCOUNTER LENT: Join our parish community and more than 14,000 Catholic communities across the United States in a life-changing Lenten journey of encounter with CRS Rice Bowl. Pick up your family’s CRS Rice Bowl from the back of church this weekend. During the 40 days of Lent, as companions on the journey, we will encounter our neighbor.

EUCHRE NIGHT AT ST. PIUS X – MARCH 8 AND 22: Euchre Night will be held in the Parish Family Center on March 8 and 22, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Please come for the Lenten Fish Fries and stay to play Euchre. THIS YEAR, the Military Outreach Program will be adopting the USO Al Assad in Iraq and sending care packages to deployed family members of St. Pius, Seton, the VFW Post 9473, and local FRG. Slips of items to buy will be located on the bulletin board in the church vestibule. Items will need to be purchased and returned before the 12:00 p.m. Mass on March 17. We will have a plastic bin located in the main entrance vestibule to collect all of your donations. We ask that all cash donations be put into an envelope labeled “Military Outreach Program," then mailed to the parish rectory or put into the collection baskets at Mass. Just make sure to include them in an envelope with the name of our program. Cash donations will go towards shipping costs, year-round care packages to deployed family members, homeless veteran programs throughout the year, and our Christmas Outreach program. Do you have a military family member or relative deployed overseas, do you have a veteran family member that you would like to honor, or do you have any questions regarding our program? Please contact Krista Schumacher at 614/323-7048 or [email protected]. Thank you!

You can watch from home, meet with parishioners on Thursday evenings to watch and discuss, or both!Although the Eucharist appears to be simple bread and wine, it is actually the “source and summit” of Christian life. The Eucharist is the crescendo of the entire history of salvation.

FAST refers to the amount of food eaten. All Catholics between the ages of 18 and 59 are to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. This means that only one full meal and two smaller meals are to be eaten on these two days. Solid foods between meals are to be avoided. ABSTINENCE means that all Catholics over 14 years of age are obligated to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays of Lent.

CRS Rice Bowl is sponsored by Catholic Relief Services, the official international humanitarian agency of the Catholic community in the United States. CRS is motivated by the example of Jesus Christ to assist poor and suffering people in more than 100 countries on the basis of need, without regard to race, religion or nationality.

“After the resurrection, when the disciples went forth in all directions, the Lord accompanied them. This is what happens as the result of true encounter.” – Pope Francis

Dear Families, During Lent our community will participate in CRS Rice Bowl, a faith-in-action program that invites us to encounter the needs of the world with the hope of the Resurrection.

We will reflect on how this encounter can be transformative. We will see how our Lenten prayers, fasting and almsgiving can respond to Pope Francis’s invitation to Share the Journey by supporting those worldwide who are forced to flee their homes to find safety or better opportunities.

As we prepare for this holy season, it is especially important to come together as a family and reflect on the crosses of hunger, poverty and war that our brothers and sisters forced to flee their homes carry. In so doing, we pledge to stand alongside these members of our human family, supporting them as the Gospel calls us to do. Please consider these suggestions in your family’s Lenten plan:

• Use your CRS Rice Bowl and Lenten Calendar daily to guide your prayer, fasting and almsgiving.

• Read the Stories of Hope and daily reflections to inspire your Lenten journey—and guide your Lenten almsgiving.

• Prepare simple, meatless meals on the Fridays of Lent to eat in solidarity with our brothers and sisters around the world.

• Visit crsricebowl.org to watch videos of the people and communities you support through your Lenten gifts to CRS Rice Bowl.

We will collect your CRS Rice Bowls at the end of Lent, so stay tuned to learn more. Thank you for participating in CRS Rice Bowl with your family. Sincerely, P.S. Did you know that CRS Rice Bowl has a web page specifically for families? Visit crsricebowl.org/families for activities that will help your family grow in our Catholic faith this Lenten season.

SAINT OF THE DAY FOR MARCH 8

Saint John of God (March 8, 1495-March 8, 1550)

Saint John of God’s Story:Having given up active Christian belief while a soldier, John was 40 before the depth of his sinfulness began to dawn on him. He decided to give the rest of his life to God’s service, and headed at once for Africa where he hoped to free captive Christians and, possibly, be martyred. He was soon advised that his desire for martyrdom was not spiritually well based, and returned to Spain and the relatively prosaic activity of a religious goods store. Yet he was still not settled. Moved initially by a sermon of Saint John of Avila, he one day engaged in a public beating of himself, begging mercy and wildly repenting for his past life.Committed to a mental hospital for these actions, John was visited by Saint John, who advised him to be more actively involved in tending to the needs of others rather than in enduring personal hardships. John gained peace of heart, and shortly after left the hospital to begin work among the poor.He established a house where he wisely tended to the needs of the sick poor, at first doing his own begging. But, excited by the saint’s great work and inspired by his devotion, many people began to back him up with money and provisions. Among them were the archbishop and marquis of Tarifa.Behind John’s outward acts of total concern and love for Christ’s sick poor was a deep interior prayer life which was reflected in his spirit of humility. These qualities attracted helpers who, 20 years after John’s death, formed the Brothers Hospitallers, now a worldwide religious order.John became ill after 10 years of service, but tried to disguise his ill health. He began to put the hospital’s administrative work into order and appointed a leader for his helpers. He died under the care of a spiritual friend and admirer, Lady Ana Ossorio. The utter humility of John of God, which led to a totally selfless dedication to others, is most impressive. Here is a man who realized his nothingness in the face of God. The Lord blessed him with the gifts of prudence, patience, courage, enthusiasm, and the ability to influence and inspire others. He saw that in his early life he had turned away from the Lord, and, moved to receive his mercy, John began his new commitment to love others in openness to God’s love.Saint John of God is the Patron Saint of: Booksellers; Firefighters; Heart Patients; Hospitals; Nurses; Printers; Sick
