The Egyptian Pyramids of Giza
By Davina
What is it?
The pyramid is a shape with 4 sides sloping downwards with one sharp
point on the top. The base is a square shape. It is made out of low grade and fine limestone. Pink granite is used for
the inner walls.
When was it built?Khufu’s Pyramid: The Great Pyramid (2548BC-
2540BC) is also known as the oldest and largest pyramid of the 3.
Khafre’s Pyramid: The Pyramid of Khafre, also known as the Pyramid of Chepren is the 2nd tallest and 2nd largest pyramid. It was built in 2520BC-2494BC.
Menkaure’s Pyramid: The Menkaure Pyramid was the smallest among the 3 and was built around 2450BC.
Why was it built?
The pyramids serves as tombs for the pharaohs and queens. They mummify
the bodies to preserve the for the afterlife. They put valuables of the
pharaohs and queens so they can use it in the afterlife as well.
Where is it located?
The pyramids are located in Giza, Egypt and
the burial chambers of the pharaohs are located in the center of the
pyramid.
Who was it meant for?
The Great Pyramid of Giza was meant for Khufu’s tomb. The Khafre Pyramid is the one located in the middle and
was meant for Khufu. The Khafre Pyramid appears to be taller since it
was built on higher grounds. It is actually the shortest.
How did they built it?
The workers stack six mastabas on top of each other to create the Step Pyramid. The Great Pyramid required about 2.3
million stone blocks. They cut stone blocks by hammering wooden wedges into the stone which were then soaked in water.
The water will be absorbed into the stone and cause the wedges to crack and part so
they can places the blocks neatly.

the World. It gives a lot of money for the people who work there.

the idea. Most of all, people try to decipher the

In the pyramids, there are a lot of illustrations about the Egyptian gods
such as Anubis and Horus. At the time the pyramids are built, people still
strongly believe in the Egyptian gods.
Ways to Preserve
I suggest that we find a way to invite tourists or keep gaining their attention to the pyramids by making a website, offer
or games and movies. Anything that attracts the audience about Egypt just like the movie ‘Mummy’. By convincing people to come to Egypt we can gain
money to help preserve the pyramids by cleaning it and reconstructing any
damaged parts.
