The Palms Conference Center and Beach Art Group are giving our

local residents and visitors the opportunity to experience works of art by nationally and internationally recog-nized artists who live and work in ou r local com-munity. Northwest Florida is known for it is natural beauty and diverse geogra-phy and it is that diversity and beauty which is reflected in the work of artists who live and work in this region. The first in this series of exhibitions “Celebrate Sum-

mer” opened on July 2nd and will run through August 25th at the Palms Confer-ence Center in Panama City Beach, Florida.

As part of their commitment to recognize these artists the Beach Art Group will be hosting several art work-shops by some of the area’s finest instructors. Artist Carol Hallock’s begins an oil painting workshop called “The Art of Painting Loose” from September 8th to 10th and artist Judi Betts conducts a “Creative Composition” a watercolor workshop. The local music scene gets another burst of fresh talent with a

second round of showcases from Fyrelite’s Music Produc-tions which kicks off in August. The Fyrelite Showcase gives a variety of up-coming acts the opportunity to perform for venue owners/operators in Panama City and Panama City Beach. This is a chance for local musicians and bands

to get new bookings in the venue’s monthly lineup. There is no pay for participation in a Fyrelite Showcase and no cover is charged at the door. Local musicians should consider a Fyrelite Showcase more as an avenue to present their act or as a live audition.

The first in this series of show-cases is scheduled to begin 9pm on Friday, August 10th at Beers Sports Bar & Pool Hall on Tyndall Parkway. To participate in this series of showcases make plans to attend the next event. Sign-ups for new acts are from 6:30pm to 8pm at Beers. Bring any business cards, demos, and media kits for consideration or send your materials to:

Oh Boy Music was s t a r t e d in 2009 as a way to keep f r i e n d s informed

about music happenings in and around the Florida Pan-handle. This grassroots ef-fort has gained popularity and support over the years from local venues, musi-cians, bands and music fans alike. Local artist Kim Griffin is the brainchild behind Oh Boy Music and is no stranger to creative problem solving. Griffin’s

ability to capture an audi-ence’s attention through marketing and working as a graphic designer has sus-tained her professionally for over thirty years. She has a sculpture on perma-nent display at The Carter Center in Atlanta, Ga and is has done everything from serve on the board of Pana-ma City POPS Orchestra to work for Fortune 500 Com-panies worldwide.

Oh Boy Music is a kind of grapevine, a sound-ing board, if you will, for places to go to experience great local music. It has taken off as a social me-dia franchise, as well, with stewards in Dothan & Tal-lahassee. Oh Boy Music is a resource for the local music community because it helps support our music scene by promoting new music gigs, venues and of-fers updates on our favor-ite bands. Help spread the word about Oh Boy Music. Tell a friend!

A Ticket to Ride - Baytown TrolleyWe are fortunate as citi-zenry to live in a place with a relatively low cost public transit. The Baytown Trolley System formed nearly 15 years ago to serve the greater Panama City area with reliable public transpor-tation. It has continued

to grow ever since along with the public’s

transportation needs and in these times of high gas prices and rising cost of living that is a

good thing. A ride on the city’s public trans-portation system costs as low as $1.50 for a one-way fare and $30 for a monthly pass. The Baytown Trolley System has 7 Routes, which take riders from one end of town to the other.

You can find informa-tion on the Baytown Trolley by visiting them online at:

www. http://baytown-trolley.org/
