Stuff, and It's All Small Stuff- Richard Carlson

As I type this, I’m experiencing this moment. This specialplace and time which I have been granted to contemplatethese ideas is all I have at the present time. At this moment,I can choose to worry about the traffic that I will be facing inthe next couple of hours, or the low amount of funds in mybank account. However, my choice is to be fully present,feeling the coldness on my fingers as I type, and letting myheart do the talking.

Many are the hours that we have spent in a panic, wonderingwhat to do over stuff that we have no control of, and weforget to live life, and lose time that will never come again.As Easter people, however, where would we be if all weconcentrate on is the passion and cruelty of good Friday, andnot experience and get fully engrossed in the glory thatcomes on Easter Sunday?

Now, by being present, I’m not asking you not to worry, andto live your life on a whim, not worried and carefree of whathas happened, or what’s to come. What I am saying is thatevery moment that you are here is a gift, wrapped beautifullyfor you to enjoy, and to live fully.

It is always said to “stop and smell the roses,” and as cheesyas it sounds, it really is as simple as that. In doing andacknowledging the simple, and some would call “mundaneliving,” we are really experiencing our own resurrection.

I invite you to get fully engrossed in your life, and experiencethose moments, and don’t let them fall by the wayside.Cherish and embrace every aspect of your life, and alwaysask - “What is this experience trying to teach me?” Live withthe certainty that this gift is given unto you every morning,together with every sound you hear, every breath youbreathe, and everything you taste.

Love life; cherish every aspect of it - whether it is happy orpainful. I am sure you will experience both, but do so withyour arms open and fully engaged with an open andcompassionate heart, and in doing so, you will experience,not only being present, but also being resurrected anew witheach sunrise.

Al escribir esto, estoy sintiendo este momento. Este lugar ymomento especial que se me ha concedido para contemplarestas ideas es todo lo que tengo en este presente. En estemomento, puedo elegir de preocuparme por el tráfico quevoy a enfrentar en el próximo par de horas, o la baja cantidadde fondos en mi cuenta bancaria. Sin embargo, mi elecciónes estar totalmente presente, sintiendo el frío en mis dedosmientras escribiendo, y dejar que mi corazón hable por mi.

Muchas son las horas que hemos pasado en estado de pánico,preguntándonos qué hacemos sobre cosas de que no tenemoscontrol, y nos olvidemos de vivir la vida, y perdimos tiempoque nunca vendrá de nuevo. Como gente de Pascua, sinembargo, donde estaríamos si todos nos concentramos en lapasión y la crueldad del Viernes Santo, sin experimentar yser totalmente absortos en la gloria que viene el Domingo dePascua?

Ahora, siendo presente, no estoy pidiendo que no sepreocupara, y vivir su vida a su antojo, no preocupado nidespreocupado de lo que ha sucedido, o lo que está por venir.Lo que estoy diciendo es que cada momento que usted estáaquí es un regalo, envuelto maravillosamente para que ustedpueda disfrutarlo y vivirlo plenamente.

Siempre se dice que "parar y oler las rosas", y aunque cursicomo suena, realmente es tan simple como eso. Al hacer yreconociendo el simple, y que algunos llamarían "la vidamundana," en realidad estamos viviendo nuestra propiaresurrección.

Te invito a que consigue ser totalmente absorto en tu vida yexperimentar esos momentos, y no deja que ellos se quedanen el camino. Apreciar y abrazar cada aspecto de tu vida, ysiempre preguntar - "¿Qué es esta experiencia tratando deenseñarme?" Vive con la certeza de que este regalo es dadoa usted cada mañana, junto con cada sonido que se oye, cadaaliento que respira, y todo lo que te saboreas.

Ama la vida; aprecia cada aspecto de ella - si es feliz odoloroso. Estoy seguro de que va a experimentar ambascosas, pero lo hace con los brazos abiertos y plenamentecomprometido con un corazón abierto y compasivo, y, alhacerlo, se experimenta, no sólo está presente, sino quetambién de ser resucitado de nuevo con cada amanecer.

The pew chair refurbishing project which began the lastweek of December, 2014, was completed on April 1, 2015.The pulpit, the lectern, the chancel chairs and the prayerrails were also stained. It took fourteen weeks and duringthat time I was so blessed by God’s provision andguidance. I also was blessed by the commitment of thosewho participated in the project. Especially when RethaMatson, who is 94 years old, inspired me by saying, “I amso thankful that I can do this for God.”

When I decided to clean the pew chairs, I didn’t knowwhat to expect. I just felt that God wanted me to startsomething to show we can do something. It showed thatour church has so much potential and it has people whoare faithful and committed to God and His church. Iremember the day when we stained the chairs. It wasWednesday. When we saw the clean chairs turning intogorgeous and beautiful chairs with staining, we couldn’twait till the following week Tuesday. On Thursday,though, we were not scheduled to clean the chairs becausewe work on the chairs only Tuesdays and Wednesdays,and Jennifer, Lourdes and I had previous commitments,

El proyecto de renovación de las sillas bancas quecomenzó la última semana de Diciembre de 2014, secompletó el 1 de Abril de 2015. El púlpito, atril, las sillasdel coro y los rieles de oración también estabanbarnizadas. Tomó catorce semanas y durante ese tiempoyo estaba tan bendecida por la provisión y la dirección deDios. Yo también fui bendecida por el compromiso de losque participaron en el proyecto. Especialmente cuandoRetha Matson, que ya tiene 94 años de edad, me inspiródiciendo: "Estoy muy agradecido de que puedo hacer estopara Dios."

we all decided to cancel our own schedules and went tothe church to stain the chairs. Linda Williams, who noticedthe transformation of the chairs, joined the refurbishingteam. She also wants to participate when we refurbish thesanctuary floor.

We will take a break and begin the refurbishing of thefloor on April 28. I cannot wait till we finish the floor. Thesanctuary will look really nice when the floor is done. Godgave us a wonderful building and we need to take goodcare of it as a good steward of God’s property. Itrepresents God’s vision and characteristics. It shouldremind people of God’s glory and love.

God wants us to flourish and to fulfill His vision. Let usnot focus on what we don’t have and what we cannot do,but focus on God, His power, provision and love. He gaveus enough to do His will, and it takes each and everyone’scommitment and willingness to serve in order to fulfill Hisplan.

Jesus fulfilled God’s plan to save sinners by dying on thecross and being raised from the dead. His willingness toobey brought hope to hopeless sinners. We are to bringhope to this hopeless world and it takes sacrifice and awillingness to serve. When we are willing, God canempower and equip us so that we can do His work.

The pew chairs are resurrected through the willingness ofchurch members. God inspired them and provided themwith everything they needed to do the job. God asks eachand every one of you whether you are willing to sacrificeand serve for His Kingdom. As we celebrate the risenJesus Christ, I pray that you will answer to His call, “I amwilling, Lord. Use me.”

y yo tenía compromisos previos, todos decidieron cancelarnuestros propios horarios y se fueron a la iglesia para teñirlas sillas. Jesús cumplió el plan de Dios para salvar a los pecadoresal morir en la cruz y resucitar de entre los muertos. Suvoluntad de obedecer trajo esperanza a los pecadores sinesperanza. Our Saturday, March 28 Workday was a hugh success. Wehad a nice turnout of members of our Church and members ofthe Echo Park New Hope Church. We scraped, sanded, andpainted the double doors on the Alvarado Street side of theChurch, the mail box, the information box, and the two doorson the Reservoir Street side of the Church. Many thanks to allwho helped to make the outside of our Church a lot nicer andmore inviting to our community residents who might like tojoin us.

Blessings, Easter People:

As we approached Easter, I was reminded that this is thetime of the year to be renewed in our Christian life, so asUnited Methodist Women, it is time to renew our Pledge asto what Membership in the United Methodist Women reallymeans. It is also a time when we need to think about what weare doing for the women, youth, and children, not just in ourchurch, but also in our community.

This is also a time of rebirth. We see the beautification thathas been done in our church. However, there is still muchmore to do. We also must now extend the beautificationprocess to our community. We are also be reminded that thegreatest beauty comes from how we treat others, how we lookat some of those less fortunate than us, or those who mayhave physical, mental or social challenges. On April 25, theLos Angeles District and the Pasadena District UMW willjointly sponsor a Social Action day. Registration is free forall women under 39, and for those 39 and above, the fee is$10.00. You do not need to be a United Methodist Woman to

Al acercarnos a la Pascua, me acordé de que esta es la épocadel año para renovar nuestra vida cristiana, entonces, comoMujeres Metodistas Unidas, es el momento de renovarnuestro compromiso en cuanto lo que el ser un miembro de laMujeres Metodistas Unidas realmente significa. También esun momento en que tenemos que pensar en lo que estamoshaciendo por las mujeres, los jóvenes y los niños, no sólo ennuestra iglesia, sino también en nuestra comunidad.

Este es también un momento de renacimiento. Vemos elembellecimiento de que se ha hecho en nuestra iglesia. Sinembargo, todavía hay mucho más por hacer. Tambiéndebemos ahora extender el proceso de embellecimiento anuestra comunidad. También recordemos que la mayorbelleza proviene de la forma en que tratamos a los demás,cómo nos fijamos en algunos de los menos afortunados quenosotros, o aquellos que pueden tener problemas físicos,mentales o sociales. There is also the renewal of our minds which we can do byreading the many books on the reading list which increasesour knowledge, especially in the areas of: leadership,community growth, social action, missions and spiritualgrowth. In July, we will have our Mission U where we willstudy about (1) the people of Latin America, (2) SpiritualHappiness in the Bible, and (3) people with disabilities inour church. There are scholarships available. Again, pleasecontact me, Lois Price, for scholarship applications andregistration forms. Scholarship applications must be in by theFirst of June.

So, Ladies, if any of these touches you, and you would liketo be involved, or simply just to learn more, please join usin the Fellowship Room at the Church basement on thesecond Sunday of each month after Fellowship Time. Wehave a wonderful time discussing the articles in the ResponseMagazine, praying for Missionaries through the prayercalendar, and exchanging views and ideas on any importantbusiness that may be brought up. Here’s hoping to see you atour next meeting on the second Sunday of April.

On April 17, ten of our Spanish young people will be leavingfor Camp Cedar Glenn to attend the Spanglish Retreat. Thetheme this year is “No Fear - Dios Esta Contigo” (Joshua1:9). This will be an inspirational time of Worship Activities,Bonfire Worship Night as well many recreational activities.They will BE THERE FROM 7:00 p.m. on Friday to 1:30p.m. on Sunday, April 19. This shall be a wonderful spiritualtime for our youth. The youth have applied for District andConference Scholarships. However, there will still be someexpenses to be paid. The total cost is $75.00 per personexcept for those who registered after the early bird deadline.If anyone would like to support our youth to go to this retreatplease contact me, Lois Price, or Sulma Zepeda Rosales. Wemay need sleeping bags for our youth, so please see if youcan help in this as well. Thank you for your support.

1) Please continue to bring recyclable items such asaluminum cans, plastic and glass bottles, to theChurch Office every Sunday. Elizabeth Baynecollects them and takes them to the recyclingcenter.

2) We will start working on refurbishing ourSanctuary floor, and so we will continue to buyvarnish and sand paper, etc. We will also continueto need old rags and towels, so please continuesending in your donations. God bless you for yourgenerosity.
