...Really Important Stuff...

Jennifer Walker-1st & 2nd

Jennifer was born into a Navy family here in Hampton Roads. After her father was medically discharged from the Navy, they moved to Missouri so he could attend seminary. Growing up as a Navy kid and a Pastor kid allowed her to experience many different sides of life.

She met her husband when they were 12 years old, saying, “He was the first boy to tell me he liked me”. She graduated from Baptist Bible College in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts in Intercultural Studies, intending to become a missionary to China, however during college, she reunited with her childhood friend (her hus-band). While he was in the Army stationed in Germany, they began writing letters and talking on the phone. After he was discharged, they started dating. She says her

husband likes to say, “We met when we were 12. We dated for 1 month before we got engaged. Then we got married 8 months later.” He likes to leaves out the 10 years in between.

Her love of teaching was realized when she got a job teaching at a private kindergarten. She taught preschool for 6 years before starting her Masters of Arts in Elementary Education, and was co-director of a preschool for 2 years. She expects to finish her Master’s degree with in the year. This is her first year at OVCA and loves the unique opportunity to minister to military kids and their families.

Jennifer’s love of children and the fact her husband has four adopted siblings, helped them decide that adoption was how they would grow their family. They have two boys, Nathan (14) & Andrew (8).

Mr Mack's 7th & 8th grade Sci-ence class held a lecture on the basic aspects of Flight, according to Bernoulle's Principles of Lift & Drag. The class discussed the development of powered / pi-loted flight starting with: Clement Ader (France) who flew a mono-plane in Oct. of 1987, and leading to the Wright Brothers (United States) who flew a biplane in Dec. of 1903.

The transition from a flat wing to a cambered wing was discussed, along with the transition from a motor in the rear of the airplane to a front mounted motor. Then the addition of trim tabs to the wings, elevators and rudders were discussed as a means to stabilize an aircraft in flight. They also discussed the development of powered flight from basically a ramp launched glider to self-powered takeoff with fixed wheels hanging below the air-plane.

From here the class discussed the development of airplanes and their use in our daily lives, along with what technology we have

taken from aircraft development to apply in other aspects of our daily lives.

After this each of the students were given balsa wood and paper covered airplane kits and they built their own small planes to experiment with the technology of flight and to build a stable fling airplane of their own. The stu-dents conducted tests flight with their completed airplanes and then added the necessary trim tabs to make the necessary modi-fications to their airplane in order

Gwenna McGill-PK 3

Gwenna has been teaching at Ocean View Christian Academy since of January of 2011. She started in the 2 year old depart-ment and has been teaching the 3 year olds for the last four years. She feels grateful to be around great co-workers, parents and children. The best part of my job, she says “is being able to teach the children from the Bible”. She’s been a Sunday school teacher at Ocean View Church from (pre-school to grade school) for 18 years. She loves to read and make hand-made cards using rubber stamps. Gwenna says that God has blessed her with a wonderful husband, Scott, for the past 30 years. They have 3 daughters, a son and nine grandchildren to enjoy life with.
