The Dunkley Herald Term 1 Week 5 Safe Respectful Learners Do you know about Mount Hutton Public School’s Breakfast Club? From 8:30am each day, children are welcome to visit the canteen to enjoy a free breakfast (or second breakfast!) The Australian Bureau of Statistics (2015) states that one in seven children skip breakfast regularly. Skipping breakfast can cause a range of health problems, contribute to poor academic performance and can even cause behavioural problems. It is really important that we, as parents and teachers, encourage our children to eat a healthy nutritious breakfast every day, to increase concentration levels and improve the ability to learn, and to brighten moods by providing children with the energy they need to get through their busy days at school! School Private Transport Needs From time to time, we need parents and carers to help us transport students to school events. Recently we have relied upon volunteers to transport students to Rugby League, and next week it is our Soccer Gala days. If you think you may be able to help out with transport in the future, please pop in to the office to get a volunteer driver pack so that you’re ready to go! In 5/6 we have been having a wonderful time showing our school to our new buddies. We have been teaching them how to follow our PBL expectations and showing them some fun games to play.

Year 5/6 News

“My favourite thing about being a buddy is showing the kindies around the school. I like spending time with my buddy because he is super funny. I like to teach him what to do at school too.” Jayden

“I like being a buddy because I like to have the responsibility. I like to help them find new friends and encourage them to enjoy school.” Ninjirah

“The best thing about being a buddy is seeing the smile on my buddies face when I pick her up from her classroom.” Ebonie

Dear diary

My heart has sunken to the bottom of the deep earth, surrounding it with boiling lava. I was out for my lovely daily walk with Sunny, my beautiful dog suddenly I could sense a rotting smell. Far into the foggy distance, I gazed upon a stunning horse with a dirty, unhappy old man on top. As he came closer and closer out of the now sightless fog, I slowly noticed a shotgun in his ripped, black pocket so I ran as fast as I could deep into a soft sunflower field. I crouched down and hid. Sunny ran quickly off through the tall flowers purely by shock of how fast we had to run. I quietly whispered ‘’come back Sunny,’’ all of a sudden, I listen to a horrible gun shot. Sunny is no more.

WOOF! WOOF! “Get the squirrel!”, my owner, old Mr Jenkins screamed. The squirrel’s heart was thumping and he wasn’t looking back. As we entered the flower field the daisies tickled my feet whilst I was running. The leaves were in my mouth so I spat them out. I felt the vibrations bouncing off my ears as my owner called me home. “That should’ve scared them,” he said.

Asher

The yellow tall sunflower tickled my nose as I sniffed it. It smelt like fresh warm choc chip cookies coming out of an oven. It’s almost like I could taste it. I heard the yellow sunflowers sway as a soft gust of wind blew in the warm air. I feel like the safest person in the world when I go there.

Forever

Read, read, read all about it!

5/6 love writing and there’s no doubt about it!

Woof! Woof! “Yeah I know boy.” Over the bright yellow sunflowers there was a mysterious cloaked man. “Hey” I yelled. Then he looked at me and dashed right past. I ran after him. I was confused as to why he was running from me. As I ran after him the wet grass tickled my legs and I smelt the fresh spring air. Then … BANG! I tripped on a rock and hit my head on the ground. As the taste of blood filled my mouth the man got away from me. I guess I'll never find him.
