June 17, 2016 Meet Your New SNA Board! Pg. 2 In an unprecedented situation, all members of the current SNA board are Quarter Six-ers and have our terms ending at the same time. We are happy to announce that DSN’s Student Nurses Association has a brand new board! All five positions have been filled by motivated and driven women, and I am sure that they will provide DSN and SNA with great leadership and creativity going into the summer term. Good Bye and Thank You! It has been my privilege to serve as your DSN Times Editor during my time on SNA Board. I have seen first-hand how amazing all my fellow nursing students are. I know you are all going to make absolutely incredible nurses, whether you are entering your seventh and final quarter (like me!) or about to go into your second. My biggest take-away from this experience has been the importance of teamwork. I could not have done the without the support of my fellow board members, Kylee, Jason and Alex. I appreciate all of my fellow DSN-ers for voicing their opinions and being open and honest, thus giving me content to write about. Best Wishes, Emily Moats (Exiting DSN Times Editor) Page 1 New Faces Denver School of Nursing is thrilled to announce that we have a new Campus President, Dr. Cathy Maxwell, and Director of Nursing Programs, Dr. Joanna Hill. Brittany Lines - President

Brittany is heading into her 5th Quarter at DSN. She is looking forward to Pediatric Nursing class, but her favorite class thus far has been Pharmacology and Pathophysiology- all because of Trent. “He is the best teacher EVER and my absolute favorite” she says. Her goal is to become a pediatric oncology nurse!

Maggie O’Keefe - Vice President

Maggie is going into her 4th Quarter. “What kind of nurse I want to be changes every month. This month it's out patient surgical nurse. Last month it was hospice. I definitely want to travel nurse for a year and maybe do a year abroad. I think I'll retire with teaching. The best thing about this career is I can do it all!”

Jennifer Morgan - Membership Chair

Jennifer is also going into her 4th Quarter. “My favorite class so far would be Pharmacology, because Sue and Trent are amazing teachers and made it fun to learn (also some of my favorite teachers). Presently, I want to become either a pediatric oncology nurse or an OB/NICU nurse.”

Ashleigh Garcia - Student Liaison

Ashleigh is going into her 4th Quarter, and her favorite class has also been Pathophysiology. Her favorite teacher is Sue Hammerton. “I see myself as an E.R. nurse down the road, once I've refined my nursing skills. As a new nurse most likely ICU or some type of acute care setting.”

Alyson Wolach - DSN Times Editor

Aly is going into her 4th Quarter. “My favorite class thus far has been pharmacology with Trent and Sue. The class was challenging but the two of them made it very interesting and enjoyable. I currently work at Children’s Hospital so I am slightly biased, but I want to be a pediatric nurse! I love the kiddos! I am super excited to be

Spotlighting Love Your Melon by Amy Gegare Love Your Melon is an apparel brand dedicated to giving a hat to every child battling cancer in America, as well as supporting nonprofit organizations who lead the fight against pediatric cancer.

The Campus Crew Program is an extension of the Love Your Melon brand that directly impacts local families with children battling cancer. In spring of 2016, we started our own campus crew right here at DSN! So far we have gotten to surprise 3 brave kiddos and their families with fun filled visits that have included a behind the scenes tour at the Denver Zoo, a playground day with a surprise visit from Elsa the Snow Queen, an afternoon full of challenge activities ending in a puzzle that revealed tickets to a VIP experience with the Denver Outlaws Lacrosse team, and more!

The goal of the LYM DSN crew is to promote sales of LYM gear, for which we get credits, which earns us home and hospital visits. We’ve gotten a great start promoting LYM to our friends and family and are excited to spread the word by creating events in our community. We are working on holding our first event at a local ice cream shop this summer.

The role of DSN LYM Campus Crew members includes the aforementioned promotion, as well as attending meetings to brainstorm activities, plan visits as they are made available to us, and to have a blast brightening the day of these brave little superheroes!

If you are interested in joining the crew, please reach out to [email protected] for more information! We would love to have you join our amazing team working for this incredible cause!
