When in danger I will fly away, vomit, kick, and spread my wings to look big. I can send vomit 10 feet away and the stomach acid in my vomit is strong enough to kill bacteria.

Turkey Vulture / Cathartes aura Voice: Usually silent. I ride thermals, an upward current of warm air, in the sky and uses my sense of smell to find dead meat or fresh carrion. Identified in flight by my V-shaped wings and soaring circles as well as the gaps in my primary feathers. We are scavengers and clean up the carcasses of dead animals. Look for us over open areas, including farms and fields. At night we roost in the trees.

Cathartes aura /Turkey Vulture Buitre Pavo

Mi voz: Normalmente estoy en silencio. Este buitre volador usa corrientes térmicas, como las corrientes ascendente de aire caliente, y usa su sentido del olfato para encontrar animales muertos o carroña fresca. Puedes identificarlo en vuelo por sus alas en forma de V y su vuelo elevado en círculos, así como los huecos en sus plumas primarias. Los buitres son carroñeros y consumen los cadáveres de los animales muertos. Busca buitres pavos en áreas abiertas, incluyendo granjas y campos. Por la noche se posan en los árboles.

El veneno para ratas puede matar a los roedores no deseados, pero también puede matar a los animales que se comen a esos animales, como buitres pavo, búhos e incluso a las águilas.

La próxima vez que tengas un problema de roedores ¡usa trampas mecánicas!

Si nada se come a los animales podridos que mueren cerca de una fuente de agua, el agua podría contaminarse y producir enfermedades.

Beber esa agua puede causar fiebre, vómitos, calambres estomacales y diarrea. Siempre es recomendable tener un vaso de agua limpia cuando se come su carroña.

Mascotas

Los buitres pavos no son depredadores y no se comerán animales sanos como su gato o perro.

No te preocupes si los ves por tu vecindario. Recuerda que ¡están limpiando su vecindario!
