The Deep End - Trust the wildernessThe temptations are not just an embarrassing episode in the life of Jesus but are an integral part of his mission. Jesus is tempted to eat when he is not supposed to eat, to take the easy route of power through exploitation, when that is not His way. Ultimately, God is in control here; this wilderness is Spiritled. And so it is for us. When it comes down to it, each of the temptations are about the same thing, our ability to trust in God. This should not direct us towards complacency but to listening. We listen to Gods Word and this years Trócaire campaign is urging us to listen to what God is saying through the Book of Creation; to trust in those signals and signs. Listening to the story of Teresina this year, we hear of an effect of climate change that is often overlooked: a family forced apart because of dry land. This past year we have seen large movements of refugees around the world. We know that the next generation of refugees will be climate refugees. It does not have to be this way. As we enter the wildernessof Lent, let us spend time with the temptations in the Gospel today and hear the call to trust’. Trust what God is trying to tell us through the Book of Creation. It is in the wasteland that we will find the signs of Gods renewal. New Ross Parish. Church of St. Mary & St. Michael Newsletter Volume 29 No 7 14th February 2016 Preparing For The Lenten Journey. Journey is a word filled with promise and potential. We imagine all sorts of exciting and challenging possibilities that may lead us to our destination. Surrounding the idea of journey is the preparation and anticipation, learning more about where we are going and making plans for getting there. While we are on a journey surprising events and insights can occur. If we are receptive to them, they can be life changing. The journey is as much about what happens on the way as about arriving at ones destination. The Season of Lent is a time that allows us space to become more aware of the gentle, yet insistent call of Jesus to love him, just as we are loved so intimately by God. It is a time that we can strip away the distractions that stop us from growing into the people that God wants us to be; people of love and compassion and generosity. Gods great desire is to bless us and be with us. If this becomes our focus, then we will want to place ourselves in a space to receive what God wants to give us. Day by Day in the simplicity of our daily routine, if we are focused and living with awareness, Gods love will be revealed in the most insignificant moments and in the most unanticipated places and unexpected people. This Lent can be different, no longer an ordeal”, but rather a blessing. On our Lenten Journey we pray that the Lord, will reach down and take us by the hand, walking with us, talking with us, First Sunday of Lent - 2016 New Ross Parish Community strives to be a welcoming, life-giving PEOPLE, nourished by FAITH, WORSHIP of God and SERVICE of all in the example of Jesus Christ. The Deep End - ‘Trust the wilderness’ The temptations are not just an embarrassing episode in the life of Jesus but are an integral part of his mission. Jesus is tempted to eat when he is not supposed to eat, to take the easy route of power through exploitation, when that is not His way. Ultimately, God is in control here; this

Sanctuary Lamp Special Intention

‘Jesus’ temptation reveals the way in which the Son of God is Messiah,

contrary to the way Satan proposes to him and the way

people wish to attribute to him. This is why Christ vanquished the Tempter

for us’ (CCC, 540).

The Israelites have not yet crossed over to the Promised Land but they

are very close. The direction given, is to help prepare the Israelites’ new

life; as they settle in ‘the land of milk and honey’. All God askes of them is to present a basket of the ‘first-fruits’ when they reach the Promised Land, remembering their struggles and with

gratitude recalling and praising the One who gave hope, strength and

providence when they called on him.

There is a very immediate, personal and powerful message declared; ‘The word is very near you, it is on your lips and in your heart.’ Allow these words to rest in you, awaken in you. If I search the depths of myself am I able to rest in the love and call the

Lord has for me? Or do I judge myself? Paul reminds us of Gods

healing mercy when he encourages us to call on the Lord when we need

Him.

Baptisms: We welcome into our Chr istian Community the following children who were baptised recently;- Teegan Dalton, Bosheen. Recently Deceased: We commend to the fullness of eternal life the souls of Sadie Mackey, Bosheen, Paddy Kehoe, Charleton Hill. Gerry Roche, Bewley St. May they rest in peace. Anniversaries: We remember in our prayers this weekend Johnny & Laura Bailey, South St. Patti Fleming, Belleville. Jackie Bennett, Pondfields. Thomas Hamilton, Ard Na Greine. ____________________________________
