The Opportunity
The QEII Health Sciences Centre provides high-quality, compassionate health care to tensof thousands of Atlantic Canadians each year. Affiliated with the Dalhousie UniversityFaculty of Medicine, the QEII is a centre of excellence in health research and is the largestteaching hospital in Atlantic Canada with more than 1,500 learners.
We are seeking a motivated and dedicated individual to join the Department of Anesthesia asa cardiac anesthesia fellow. Our fellowship program offers training in all aspects ofcardiac surgical patient care, from pre-operative assessment and optimization, through tointra-operative management and immediate post-operative care. Our goal is to trainoutstanding clinical anesthesiologists to treat patients with a variety of complex cardiacproblems, including valvular heart disease, critical coronary artery disease, severe ventriculardysfunction and aortic pathology.

The successful candidate will provide progressively independentanesthesia care to mid- to high-risk patients for a wide spectrumof cardiac surgical problems.
The fellow will complete an intensive one-month rotation in intra-operative transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) and also learnbasic and advanced peri-operative blood managementtechniques during cardiac surgery. The fellowship includes com-pletion of a clinical research project for presentation at a majormeeting (CSA, ASA, or SCA) or publication in a peer-reviewedjournal.
Faculty from the Department of Anesthesia and other col-laborating departments will serve as mentors, offering expertisein diverse research, academic and clinical areas.
