Thorobreds first, Fillies third in Scott Co. meetBy Mike Aldridge, SportS writer
The Harrison County Thorobreds and Fillies with their squads nearly in tact showed why they are con-sidered contenders in the region this year with a fine performance at Scott County last Tuesday.
The Thorobreds raced to a big win over seven other opponents in win-ning the meet with nearly 60 points more than the closest competitor.
Harrison County brought home eight first place finishes, six seconds and 11 third place finishes in domi-nating the event.
As usual, the relays belonged to Harrison County as they took first place in the 800M relay, the 1600M relay and the 3200M relay as well as third in the 400M relay and the 1600M relay.
Brandon Clarke and Campbell Hall were one, two in the 400M dash and Hall was second in the 100M dash.
Both also ran a leg in the 800M relay and the 1600M relay.
Joe Thomas won the 800M run was third in the 3200M run and ran a leg on the 3200M relay team.
Joey Faulconer won the 1600M run and the 3200M run to complete a very difficult duo of races.
In the 1600M race, the Breds fin-ished first, third (Tyler Martin), fourth (Grant Carr), and eighth (Nick Slucher).
Martin, Carr and Slucher were also on the victorious 3200M relay team and Slucher ran a leg in the winning 1600M relay.
Daniel Klapheke was second in the 110M hurdles followed by Joey Pratt in third and third in the 300M hurdles with Pratt fourth.
Pratt also brought home a second in the long jump and a third in the triple jump.
Elijah Gross was victorious in his best event, the triple jump, with a leap of 40 feet, 3 inches and third in the high jump.
Scott Kendall was second in the high jump and ran a leg in the third place 400M relay team.
Other third place finishers were Taylor Bolin in the pole vault, Dominic Walker in the discus and Jeffrey Hunter in the long jump.
“We are starting to put things together,” noted Coach Robert Walker. “After the meets this week we should have all of the runners in the races we want them and be ready to make a run at the region.”
Scott County and Western Hills each finished in front of the Fillies in the nine-team competition.
The only event in which the Fillies were victorious was the 3200M relay ran by Hannah Thomas, Bailey Caudill, Morgan Puckett and Katelyn Horschler.
The girls grabbed second in three events with Caylin Mattox second in the 110M hurdles, the 800M relay team of Jessica Alas, Haley Carr, Mia Lail and Kinsey Lesak in the runner-up slot, and the 1600M relay team (Thomas, Carr, Lesak and Taylor Fry) also in second place.
Lail was third in the 100M hurdles, Carr was third in the 300M hurdles and Kiana Walker took third in the triple jump.
Hannah Thomas was fourth in the 400M dash, Lail was fourth in the long jump, Carr was fourth in the 100M hurdles and Natasha Ingram was fourth in the discus and shot put.
“We can do better,” said Coach Danny Simpson. “I was encouraged by many of the performances, but time is growing short. Times are improving and there is promise in the field events but we just need to keep working and improving.”
The next event for the track teams was Wednesday at Tates Creek followed by the Harrison County Invitational on Saturday at the ath-letic complex.
