Biographies

Nancy A. Herman (Director/Producer) Ms. Herman has an MA in Educational Theatre from NYU and has been teaching English and Theatre Arts for over 30 years. She has been the Director/Advisor of Theatre 308 since l980. For several years Ms. Herman was the director of the Theatre 308/Moscow Arts Theatre Exchange during which time she directed and produced two full-scale musical productions which toured in Moscow and Leningrad, and she is currently on the Executive Board of the Eastbound Theatre Company in Milford, where she lives. She has been the recipient of the CEMA/SIRS Award for Intellectual Freedom and the National Outstanding Teacher Award, and last month was honored to receive the Connecticut Arts Administrators Association Award for Outstanding Contributions in Arts Advocacy. Ms. Herman feels privileged to have worked on this production of The Curious Savage with such a talented and dedicated group of young actors, designers, and crew members She also extends a profound thank you to Alex Speiser, Lee Strecker, Mike O’Brien, Dennis Tully and her former student, former 308-er and dear friend Laura Coyle, all of whom have given so generously of their talents, their time and their expertise. Finally she sends a big, loving thank you to Olivia and to Patrick, who have been “holding down the fort” at home without her. Alexander Speiser (Assistant Producer) Alex is glad to return to Theatre 308 in his fifth year as an English teacher at Darien High School. His Darien credits include Theatre 308’s Les Misérables, Dead Man Walking, The Music Man, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Shenandoah, The Laramie Project, and Into the Woods and the Musical Theater Workshop’s Annie, Peter Pan, High School Musical, and Bye Bye Birdie. In college, he worked as a lighting designer, technical director, and producer for the Rice University productions of Smash, Spike Heels, Macbeth, Antigone and Arcadia. In 2006 he made his acting debut in Yale Cabaret’s production of the 1877 temperance drama Don’t Marry A Drunkard to Reform Him. Alex thanks his lovely wife for her endless support.

Lee Strecker (Master Carpenter) Lee Strecker is a technology teacher and Department head at DHS. In the past thirty years, he has done set construction for both the middle school and high school productions. Lee’s love for building and design is also practiced through his construction business. The new production facilities were a catalyst for Streck to go back to school and he is presently taking theater production courses in order to bring new techniques to our stage. Michael O'Brien (Business Manager) Michael O'Brien is in his eleventh year of teaching mathematics at Darien High School having previously spent an entire career in the business world. His theatrical experiences are few but include stage crew for local town productions of Sound of Music and West Side Story. He enjoys the thespians, the crew and the entire Theatre 308 group of talented and wonderful people. Kathleen Cameron (Stage Manager) Kathleen, President of Theatre 308, is delighted to work backstage in this fall’s drama. Her 308 credits include: Madame Thénardier in Les Misérables, Sister Helen Prejean in Dead Man Walking, Ethel Toffelmier in The Music Man, and Quince in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Other roles include: Yente in Fiddler on the Roof, Josephine Strong in Urinetown, and Peter/“Pola” in Romeo and Juliet. This is her first foray into backstage work, and it has given her a deep appreciation for the immense effort put into the show—both onstage and off. Many thanks to her parents, Mimi and Jim, Ms. Herman, Ms. Coyle, Mr. O’Brien, Mr. Strecker, Mr. Speiser, and to the wonderful cast and crew. Wonderful job, everyone. Enjoy the show! Luke Hill (Head of Set/Lighting) Luke Hill is euphoric to be part of this production of The Curious Savage. Luke is a Junior at DHS, and is very proud of both the set crew and the actors for putting on such an amazing show. Much thanks to Mr. Strecker, Dennis, and Ms. Herman for making this show what it is! Break a leg everyone!

Gabby Acquaviva (Mrs. Paddy) Gabby went into auditions this year with no inhibitions or expectations, and is beyond thrilled that she came out with a role! A junior, Gabby has participated in 308 since her freshman year, doing costumes for A Midsummer Night’s Dream, dramaturgy, props, and ushering for Les Misérables, and being in The Music Man ensemble. Other roles include Kali in Fable, Victoria in Chrysanthemum, and Rose in select scenes from Gypsy. Gabby made her directorial debut at Student Productions last year, assisting with the show Blood on the Canvas, written and directed by her very talented friend Jon Lewis. Gabby sends all her love to her family (especially mom, Enzo, V.C., and Atticus), and all her friends. Special thanks to her lovely cast mates, Kathleen, Mr. Speiser, Laura Coyle, and of course Ms. Herman for this amazing opportunity. It’s been fun! Outside of 308, Gabby is co-president of DHS’ Gay-Straight Alliance. Marin Amyotte (Florence) Marin is overzealous to be in this year's 308 fall production of the Curious Savage. If she's not tackling her junior year's work, rehearsing, dancing, or practicing the piano, cello, trombone and voice, you're probably thinking of the wrong person. In the past you may have seen Marin in Damn Yankees (2006) as Doris, A Midsummer Night's Dream (2007), The Music Man (2008), Dead Man Walking (2008) as Emily Percy and Les Misérables (2009). Marin would like to applaud her amazingly talented cast members and set crew workers (who she's grown very fond of) for their support and acceptance, our stage manager, Kathleen Cameron, for putting up with them, Reed Morgan for joining them as the only freshman, Laura for her help in developing their characters, and of course Ms. Nancy Herman for all her work, dedication and love. Now sit back and enjoy the show! Robbie Florian (Jeffery) Robbie is absolutely electrified to be participating in this wonderful production of The Curious Savage as Jeff. His other Theatre 308 credit was last year's production of Les Misérables, playing the part of Marius. He would like to thank the incredible direction of Ms. Herman and Laura and the rest of the cast for their hard work.

Biographies Max Hanau (Titus Savage) Max is thrilled to be playing the role of Titus in The Curious Savage. So far, he has acted in the Theatre 308 productions of The Music Man, Dead Man Walking, and Les Misérables. He is very happy to have been a member of 308 throughout his high school career so far, and plans to continue to participate in the coming shows. He would like to thank his family and friends for their support, especially his sister, who was first to encouraged him to join theater. Paris La Rock (Lily Belle Savage) Paris is overjoyed to be part of the fall drama. This is her third year being a part of the 308 family and The Curious Savage will be her fifth show at DHS. In the recent years Paris has been in; Les Misérables, Dead Man Walking, The Music Man, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Ash Girl and Tommy. She would also like to congratulate the cast and crew and thank her fearless director Mrs. Herman. Elizabeth Leimkuhler (Mrs. Ethel Savage ) Elizabeth Leimkuhler is overflowing with enthusiasm about playing Mrs. Savage in this year's production of The Curious Savage. She is honored to be a member of the cast and thanks Ms. Nancy Herman and the other 308 advisers tremendously for the opportunity. Elizabeth's past roles with Theatre 308 include a fairy in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Maud in The Music Man, Sister Colleen in Dead Man Walking, and Cosette in Les Misérables. Thanks to the cast, crew, and all who helped with production! Abigail Leinroth (Mrs. Willy) Abby is elated to be playing the part of Mrs. Willie in The Curious Savage. Abby was previously in Theatre 308’s productions Dead Man Walking (Hope Percy), and Les Misérables (Chorus), and was in the Middlesex productions of The Wizard of Oz (Glinda), and Fable (Eastern Villager). She would like to thank Ms. Herman, Mr. O’Brien, Mr. Speiser, Mr. Strecker, and everyone would made this show possible! Break a Leg Everyone!

He is very excited to be performing with Theatre 308, and would like to thank Ms. Herman, Ms. Coyle, and the cast and crew of The Curious Savage for all their hard work and support throughout the production. Alex Rankine (Samuel Savage) Alex is thrilled to be playing the part of Samuel in this production of The Curious Savage. Alex is a junior at Darien High School and this will be his fifth show with Theatre 308. Much thanks to the cast, crew and everyone involved in the show. Break a leg! Caroline Vilter (Fairy Mae) Caroline is absolutely ecstatic to be in Theatre 308's production of The Curious Savage. As a senior, this is Caroline's first drama at DHS. She was also a featured dancer in the past performance The Music Man. She would like to thank her family and friends for their unwavering support and give special thanks to Ms. Herman, Ms. Coyle, Mr. O'Brien, Mr. Speiser, and Mr. Strecker. Congratulations, cast and crew! Enjoy the show! Kenny Weiss (Dr. Emmet) Kenny is very excited to be playing the roll of Dr. Emmett. This being his second show with 308, it is an honor to have a part in such an amazing play. Playing the role of Javert in last years Les Misérables was a great way to start his theatre career. To follow it with Dr. Emmett in The Curious Savage is wonderful. He thanks Ms. Herman for the wonderful opportunity to be in this show, the cast for being so great and of course the crew for making this all possible!
