GREETINGS MAKER
We are excited that you value creating and have chosen to become part of this maker community. Each member brings their own flavor to this stone soup, new skills, enthusiasm, ideas and energy. This is a work in progress and we welcome your ideas in making this space a more welcoming, creative and sustainable place to come and enjoy. If there are any question, or you have ideas and comments, please see Kara or Liam ( sparkle twins ), the cofounders of The Curious Forge. The following slides were put together to help you settle in to your new creative home.

BEING IN THE SPACE
• Being a member of the Forge is a privilege that volunteers have worked hard to gift the you and the community. Please be patient. Whiners are wieners
• Golden rule applies… act, communicate, relate in the way you would like
• Please clean up after yourself… and after others if they don’t. There are no makerspace mothers.
• Familiarize yourself about maker culture and the small set of rules we created to insure everyone has a chance to play.
• “You get out what you put in” holds true here, there are many ways to help
• If a workshop is going on, ask the facilitator if your activity will disturb the class
SAFETY
• It is a community space and everyone is responsible for investigating and rectifying any unsafe condition
• If unsure about a situation or person, respectfully inquire and take action
• Safety precautions and safety equipment requirements must be adhered to at all times ( personal safety equipment and proper use of tools )
• Only use equipment that you are certified for
• If you see an unsafe condition, immediately address it
• Only bring a guest in if you have been certified to
• Dogs and children under 12 should stay in the office
• Know where and how to use the fire extinguishers
MEMBER COMMITMENTS
• Acting safely, respectfully and with consideration to others
• Being proactive. Lend a hand and act immediately to unsafe conditions
• Paying your fair share, using only what is yours, replacing what you break
• Prompt response to communications
• Attitude of gratitude
USE OF THE EQUIPMENT
Most of our equipment is owned by individuals who have let us use their equipment and do so assuming it will be well cared for and maintained
• You must be certified to use any equipment marked as “certification needed”
• Treat all equipment safely, and with care and respect
• If there is a problem with the equipment, tag it immediately and notify that area manager
• Certification procedures are posted on the website, be patient, everyone is a volunteer
• Be proactive about members not using equipment properly or with permission
• How many balloons can you fit in a pancake ?None, ice cream doesn’t have any bones
VISITORS AND GUESTS• A guest is someone you bring in to the space. A visitor is someone who
shows up un announced
• You must be familiarized to bring a guest into the space
• If a visitor shows up, please introduce yourself and answer questions about the space if you have the time. If you can’t, refer them to the open house. Please keep them safe
• Everyone must sign a waiver to be anywhere outside the office and picnic table area
• Visitors must not enter an area where power equipment is being used
• Guest can enter area but safety gear/precautions must be adhered to.
• Certified members can bring in 2 guests twice a month
APPROPRIATE PROJECTS
• Large projects that may hinder others from using space need to be approved by sparkle twins before starting
• Insure that all impacted members in the space are notified and permission granted when projects produce long periods of noise, fumes, noxious smells, or potentially unsafe conditions or situations.
• Members must defer to any ongoing workshops and permission given by facilitator.
• If you use an inordinate amount of consumables including electricity ( e.g. kiln ), propane, welding gas, or are using the Oxy-acetylene equipment, please reimburse the community for the usage
• Large production or manufacturing is presently out of the scope of our makerspace. We are here to innovate, prototype, and create one off unique items
