Student Bussing Eligibility

All schools in the York Region District School Board are committed to improving student achievement and

well-being. On Wednesday, June 29th, 2016 an early release day will take place to allow elementary

teachers and support staff to take part in meetings during the afternoon of that day. These meetings will

allow for school staff to engage in culminating activities regarding the review and revision of the School’s

Improvement Plan as well as year-end and transition activities that support student success.

As has been our practice in the past, students will attend school during the morning of Wednesday, June

29th, 2016 only. Students will be dismissed early that day at 11:35 a.m. Arrangements will be made to

ensure that students who are normally bused to and from school will receive transportation at this time.

Parents/guardians whose children attend after school child care should make appropriate arrangements to

address this change in schedule.

Early Release on June 29th

I would like to take this opportunity to inform you that Bill 52, An Act to Amend the Education Act Respecting Pupil Learning to the Age of 18 and Equivalent Learning, provides for an expanded range of opportunities to support students and also requires that the responsibility for absent students must be addressed to ensure continuity of their learning. Students who do not return to school at the end of vacation periods will be required to comply with the following process to confirm their space in their home school. Please request the form to complete indicating the expected dates of absence. Contact with the school must be made on the 15th day of absence, and every 15 days after that. Given current accommodation issues and Ministry of Education class size caps, parents/guardians who do not respond through this ongoing communication format may be required to have their child(ren) attend school at an alternate location which can accommodate them. School starts on Tuesday, September 6th, 2016 and students not attending that day need to notify the school. If you require further information, a form or clarification, please contact the school office.

As the school year comes to a close, I would like to thank you for all that you have done to help make this

school year a successful one for our students.

We share a common goal - to give our young people every opportunity to reach their full potential, and we all

have a role to play in supporting that goal. However you choose to get involved, your engagement and

support make a difference. We know that good schools become better schools when they are connected

with families.

Thanks to the ongoing efforts of our students, families, staff members and community partners, we are

creating a welcoming, caring and inclusive learning environment that fosters student achievement and well-

being.

As we move into summer, I encourage you to seek out opportunities to continue and complement the

learning that takes place throughout the school year. That could mean taking a nature walk, visiting a

museum or reading a book. Whatever your plans are over the next few months, I hope you have a safe,

relaxing and enjoyable summer.

Face Painting

We are collecting donations to help inspire our

community to reach out to others in times of

need and become aware of current issues going on

outside of their home. 100% of the proceeds will go

towards the Canadian Red Cross, and we are hoping

everyone can contribute to help us reach our goal.

Please support our student face painters!

Remember your toonies and loonies for

freezies, and the photo booth!

There is also a basket draw and silent auction in the front hall.

Family photos will be available in room 5 (across from the girl’s washroom)
