Key words : correlation, the mastery of grammar, and the mastery of nahwu

Grammar is the scientifiec study of the form and arrangement of word,

phrases, and sentences. Because grammar as the integral part of the language so

mastering grammar is the learners’ necessity. There is no doubt that every learner

must master grammar well. In MA NU TBS Kudus the students do not really care

about English. They sometimes do not pay attention because they think that English

is not important as Arabic and they think English is difficult. As the students who

have the islamic background, they easily understand the nahwu (grammar arabic),

but most of them do not like English, moreover grammar. Actually grammar and

nahwu have the similiarities. As the students in islamic high school that mastering

nahwu, the writer assumed that it will be easy to the students to mastering grammar.

The students must proud about that, because they will be more understanding about

English by knowing the similiarities between grammar and nahwu. The students

can mastery grammar by knowing the similiarities between grammar and nahwu.

Here, the writer wants to recheck the significant correlation between the mastery of

grammar and nahwu of the eleventh grade students of MA NU TBS Kudus in

academic year 2014/2015.

The objective of this research is: to find out whether there is a significant

correlation between the mastery of grammar and nahwu of the eleventh grade

student of MA NU TBS Kudus in academic year 2014/2015.

The method of this research is correlation design. The population is the

eleventh grade students in language class’s (XI C) of MA NU TBS Kudus in

academic year 2014/2015. The researcher gave the multiple choice grammar and

nahwu mastery test to the students. After giving score, the researcher calculating

and giving interpretation. The researcher analyzed the data by using Correlation

Product Moment Formula.

The result shows that there is a significant correlation between the mastery

of grammar and nahwu of the eleventh grade students of MA NU TBS Kudus in

academic year 2014/2015. It based on the result of the calculation which has

explained in Appendix 10 that rxy (coefficient correlation) is 0.47. It is categorized

enough correlation.

Based on the result above, the writer would like to give suggestion as; (1)

For the teachers, the teachers who have the islamic background can teach grammar

by showing the similiarities material between grammar and nahwu, (2) For the

readers, the writer hopes the readers have motivation to learning grammar and

nahwu. And the reader or further writer they can improve or innovate with similar

topic

Grammar adalah ilmu pengetahuan tentang bentuk kalimat dan susunan

kata, frase dan kalimat. Karena grammar adalah bagian penting dari suatu bahasa

maka menguasai grammar adalah kebutuhan bagi seorang pembelajar. Tidak ada

keraguan bahwa setiap pembelajar harus menguasai grammar dengan baik. Di MA

NU TBS Kudus, para siswa tidak perduli tentang bahasa inggris. Terkadang mereka

tidak memperhatikan bahasa inggris karena mereka berfikir bahwa bahasa inggris

itu tidak penting seperti halnya bahasa arab dan mereka berfikir bahwa bahsa

inggris itu sulit. Sebagai siswa-siswa yang mempunyai latar belakang sekolah

islam, mereka lebih mudah untuk memahami nahwu (grammar bahasa arab), tetapi

kebanyakan dari mereka justru tidak menyukai bahsa inggris terutama grammar.

Padahal grammar dan nahwu sebenarnya mempunyai persamaan. Sebagai siswa-

siswa yang bersekolah di sekolah islam yang menguasai ilmu nahwu, penulis

berasumsi bahwa siswa-siswa akan lebih mudah untuk menguasai grammar. Siswa-

siswa harus bangga dengan hal tersebut, karena mereka akan lebih menguasai

bahasa inggris dengan mengetahui persamaan antara grammar dan nahwu. Disini,

penulis akan memeriksa kembali apakah ada hubungan antara pengusaan grammar

dan nahwu kelas XI MA NU TBS Kudus tahun pelajaran 2014/2015.

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan jika ada korelasi yang

signifikan antara penguasaan grammar dan nahwu pada kelas XI MA NU TBS

Kudus pada tahun pelajaran 2014/2015.

Desain yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah desin korelasi. Populasi

yang diambil adalah kelas XI C MA NU TBS Kudus pada tahun pelajaran

2014/2015. Peneliti memberikan soal grammar dan nahwu berbentuk pilihan

granda kepada siswa. Setelah mahasiswa memberikan skor, penulis menghitung

dan memberikan penafsiran. Penulis menganalisis data dengan menggunakan

korelasi Product Moment Formula.

Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada korelasi yang signifikan antara

penguasaan grammar dan nahwu pada kelas XI MA NU TBS Kudus pada tahun

ajaran 2014/2015. Ini berdasarkan hasil perhitungan yang telah dijelaskan dalam

Lampiran 10 bahwa rxy (koefisien korelasi) 0.47. Hal ini dikategorikan kedalam

korelasi yang cukup.

Berdasarkan hasil dari penelitian tersebut, penulis akan memberikan saran

yaitu (1) Guru yang mempunyai latar belakang sekolah islam dapat mengajarkan

grammar dengan menunjukkan persamaan antara grammar dan nahwu (2) Untuk

para pembaca, penulis berharap para pembaca akan termotifasi untuk belajar

grammar dan nahwu. Dan untuk para pembaca atau penulis selanjutnya dapat

mengembangkan atau berinovasi dengan topik yang sama.
