Update on current ProjectsAntimicrobial CopperCopalcor, CTA, Cobra , NFM, Pandae and Linmar Wire accredited Cu+ fabricators and Wieland negotiating on supply of AMC for sinks.Marketing of AMC continuing and we have contacted 101 Medical Aids, 388 State Hospitals and 57 Provincial and National Government Healthcare agencies to arrange AMC presentations

AMC touch surfaces have been installed in the surgery of a Dental Specialist in Alberton, Johannesburg.

Professor Shaheen Mehtar from Stellenbosch University has started on the experiment to prove the efficacy of copper on airborne pathogens (Tuberculosis)Experiments to prove that a copper device can effectively clean water in a vessel and render it fit to drink has been started by Emanti, CSIR and Stellenbosch University.

Update on current Projects

AquacultureThe nets required for the finfish growth trials in Mozambique were supplied and installed by Copalcor mid May 2013.

The nets for Richards Bay will be supplied by NFM and is scheduled for deployment in September 2013.

PlumbingWe are continuing with our advertising campaign promoting the SABS standard on copper tubing and serve on the committee for the study on plumbing fittings which, when complete, will be incorporated into the NBR

The Palabora Foundation and the CDAA will sponsor the training of plumbers and the Plumbing Academy has been selected to apply their “train the trainer” programme on site in Palabora.

Electrical

We are proud to welcome the ERIC (Electrical Control Board) and the ECASA (Electrical Contractors Association of South Africa) as members of the CDAA.

We are currently involved with ERIC in running workshops throughout South Africa on electrical standards.

We will be sponsoring the ECASA excellence awards and will be doing a presentation at the conference.

We are co-sponsoring the training of 12 electrical apprentices.

One of the main players in the transformer industry, SAFTRONICS, has joined the CDAA.

Update on current Projects

Alternative Energy

Solar Heating – We work with IOPSA and SESSA in order to stay in touch with the developments such as the rebate system and the new green centre.

Wind Energy- We have joined SAWEA and will be exhibiting at their conference in Cape Town.

Photovoltaic- Various discussions around the use of roof top and larger installations are taking place and we keep in touch with Carel Ballack, the SESSA ombudsman to keep abreast of developments.

Future Projects

Photovoltaic

We will be partnering the Wilberforce Community Centre and Eskom to do a study on the electrification of an informal settlement in Sonderwater in the Evaton District.

Technology Train

Discussions have been underway for more than a year with Professor Stoffel Fourie of Tshwana University of Technology and we are in the process of negotiating the role that CDAA will play.

When completed this train will be travel through the SADEC countries spreading the development of technology.

COPPER SCRAPOn 25th January 2013, the

Minister of Economic Development published for

comment a draft policy directive to ITAC (International

Trade Administration Commission of South Africa) in

terms of the ITAC act 71 of 2002 on the exportation of

ferrous and non-ferrous waste and scrap metal.

Following consideration of the comments received, the Minister now issues the following policy directive to ITAC in terms of the

ITA Act

Ferrous and non-ferrous metal will first be offered to the local market at a price discount and a period determined by ITAC

All permit applications to be accompanied by confirmation by a metallurgical engineer confirming the type, quality and quantity and information as to when and where the scrap metal may be inspected by buyers.

This policy will be in place for 5 years after which it will be reviewed.
