CUMC SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarship Winners Announced

The Higher Education Committee is pleased to announce the 2015 Scholarship Winners of Carmel United Methodist Church. The recipients have been notified and will be recognized during the 9:30am Worship Service on May 17th.

Rebecca Keys, a member of Carmel United Methodist Church for eight years, is the daughter of Marcilynn & David Keys. In her essay about her faith journey, Rebecca stat-ed that she did not get accepted to her first college choice but she sensed a stillness washing over her as she waited to hear from Purdue. In her words, “I began to remember the words of many influential mentors from CUMC who said, ‘God has plans for you be-yond anything you could plan for yourself.’” Rebecca is graduating from Carmel High School and plans to pursue a degree in Engineering at Purdue University.

Serena King, has been a member of Carmel United Methodist Church since being baptized here in 1997! Serena’s essay included these thoughts: “As I write this essay, I remember all of the times I have played with homeless children at my church, find winter coats and shoes for struggling families, and feed and play with dogs and cats who have lived in terrible conditions. Every day of your life is an opportunity to be a blessing to someone.” Serena is the daughter of Michelle & Ed King. Serena is also graduating from Carmel High School and plans to pursue a degree in Veterinary Technology at Purdue University.

Katie Youree, has been a member of Carmel United Methodist Church for five years. In Katie’s faith journey essay, she states: “I know that when I go off to college I won’t have my home church there, but…God has a plan for me and I am allowing him to work through me. I will not turn my back on him after the amazing things he has done for me, and the amazing people he has brought into my life.” Katie is the daughter of Nancy & Michael Youree. Katie is graduating from Westfield High School and plans to major in Exploratory Studies at Purdue University.

Hometown Nazareth is for children currently in the 3's, 4's and Kindergarten classes at 9:30am and The Stream in room 117. We will explore Jesus as a child. Everyone knows what it’s like to hear your mom tell stories from your childhood. Can you imagine the kinds of stories Mary could tell? Take your kids back to Hometown Naz-areth, where they’ll stand up for their faith among people

who doubt that the carpenter’s son is really God’s son. Each week we will explore a Bible story, sing a song and then either do a craft, or game! Both classes begin in the worship with their parents before being dismissed to their class.

Wilderness Escape is about teaching children to trust God as they join Moses on the incredible journey through the wilderness and discover what it was like to live in the Israel-ite camp. First through fifth grade in room 116. Each week we will learn about what happened in the Old Testament and how that prepared the world for Jesus. Each week we will have Bible stories, music and either crafts or games.

We ask that parents volunteer one week to assist per child.
