Our weekly “youth group” time is each

Sunday night from 5:15 to 7:30. We offer

games, music, great teaching, a free meal

and time to hang out with other youth. This

is for all youth from 6-12 grades and a per-

fect place for student to invite friends! We

would love ALL youth to be a part of this

weekly event.

Our upcoming teaching series “Identity”

asks the key question, “Who are you?”

Our world values being unique. So much

so, that we end up looking the same as we

try to be different. But we aren't a number.

We aren't our clothes, our relationships or

our accomplishments. In Christ we are

much more.

In these four thought-provoking youth Bible

study sessions, Eric Mason compares the

message the world constantly tells teens

about their identity with the truths found in

Scripture. The world tells us it's all about

how you look, what you have, what you do,

and whom you are connected to. But

Scripture teaches that while those things

can be important, they do not constitute

who you are. As followers of Jesus Christ,

our identity is found in Him.

Get Connected

We are encouraging all youth to get con-

nected on Sunday mornings at CUMC.

This may mean that you worship in one of

our four worship services with your family,

or it may mean that you find a way to

serve our church. We already have stu-

dents connected in lots of ways on Sun-

day mornings like singing in the choir,

teaching and assisting with Sunday

School for kids, being an usher, playing

drums in the Stream band…and more!

We would love to find a way to help you

get connected too, so email Kevin at

[email protected] and we will

find the right spot for you on Sunday

mornings

On a regular basis we offer special events

just for girls! If you are a youth girl and

not receiving this information, please

email Ashley at [email protected]

Hint: you will be mooved by it!

Trunk-or-Treat: FRIDAY - OCTOBER 30TH

“The Not So Silent Night” is the Christmas Play that to be presented this year on Sunday, December 20. Shepherds who visit baby Jesus on the night of his birth are so excited about the events of the evening that they make a great deal of noise and are arrested for disturbing the peace. The play takes place in the court room where the shepherds are on tri-al. You will laugh out loud at the witnesses for the prosecu-tion, especially Dr. Sigmund Fruitcake! The dialogue is clev-erly comic keeping the audience engaged and wondering what wacky character will be the next to be cross-examined. The children pantomime their roles so there is no dia-logue to memorize or microphones needed and no anxie-

ty about missing a line!

Kids ages 3 years old (by September 1, 2015) through 5th

grade are invited to participate. We can only accept a lim-ited number of kids, so please sign up early. The sign up will be available October 25 on our website. Please make sure

your child can attend 3 out of the 4 practices.

Practices are Sundays November 22 6-7:30, November 29 6-7:30, December 13 6-7:30pm, and Saturday, December 5 10-12noon. Please also sign up to help with the play assisting the kids learn the songs and the meaning of the Christmas story by volunteering one time per child. Per our child protection policy a parent/guardian must remain in the building, so, this is not a drop off event, thank you. Questions, please email Pastor Aj at [email protected].

2nd Grade Bibles!!

Please read, why Red Ribbon Sunday is important to me- so much that I wear red every day of October so I do not forget! Please join me in not forgetting and supporting our young people!

A personal note from Pastor Aj!

This is dedicated to a young man who died too young, I will call him Charles. Charles was a 21 year old young man who I treasured as a friend. Charles lost his identity of who he thought he was when he was cut from the basketball team. He searched for who he was. He turned to drugs. He had found another place where he fit in and was accepted. He tried to numb his pain, he began with prescription pain kill-ers, stolen from the medicine cabinets of parents and grandparents. (The number one place drugs are gotten is at their home, friend’s home or grandparents home medicine cabinets.) He eventually went to using heroin. It is very cheap and easy to get and use. Charles graduated high school and went on to college where he was on the Dean’s list. He wanted to be a doctor but prior arrests because of drugs made that impossible. Charles died from a heroin overdose almost five years ago. He was a child of God, who wandered off the path, looking for something that would fill his emptiness and fear. He had a loving home with two parents who loved and supported him, a sister and 2 brothers all who love Jesus and follow Him as their Lord and Savior. I miss Charles every day and pray no family has to experience the pain, sadness and grief from the evilness of drugs! I covet to pray for each of your children to F. R. O. G.!!! (Fully Rely On God!)

Would you please join me in prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank You for the gift of your children all around the world. You have created them in Your image and likeness. Help us to guide, affirm and love them so they are equipped to make healthy choices for their lives. Help the children experience Your great love for them deep in their hearts. Send Your Spirit upon them to comfort, heal, protect and en-lighten their decisions especially those that help them to Fully Rely On (YOU) God. Amen

New Stream Council

As the Stream has grown, so has our need for additional leadership to make sure that we keep heading in

the right direction and that people who attend the Stream are known and cared for. To help make this pos-

sible, we have formed a new group called the Stream Council made up of members of Carmel UMC who

will bring their gifts and passion to this role. These are people you can talk to as spiritual leaders and as

your representatives in guiding the Stream into the future. They are Richard Carriger, Lara Stickford, Jas-

mine McDonald, Jeff Henn and Eric Walsworth (see pictures below) and we hope you will be in prayer for

them as they serve our church in this new way.

Congratulations to our Boy Scout youth for their extracur-ricular studies for faith growth using the P.R.A.Y. Publishing program (Program of Religious Activities with Youth). Chris-tian Reck, Austin Keith, and William Spanenberg complet-ed the “God & Church” study focusing on strengthening their relationship with Christ, and were challenged to learn about and participate in the

worship and ministry of the church over the 7 month study. Each researched CUMC history and provided reports on the various ministries. Then as a capstone assignment, each partici-pated in 3 CUMC ministries serving both inter-nally and in outreach. The P.R.A.Y. curriculum is conducted through churches, and is strongly supported by the United Methodist Church for education and faith growth. The material is available for Sunday School classes, plus P.R.A.Y. partners for promotion with American Heritage Girls, Camp Fire USA, Trail Life USA, and both Boy & Girl Scouts. As these boys are also Boy Scouts, the BSA provides a knot patch in recognition of their study.

SUNDAY BUS

Carmel UMC is in search of volunteers that would be willing to drive the Church’s 14 passenger bus to pick up our brothers and sisters of Carmel UMC who presently reside at The Barrington and have no mode of transportation to get to church. While initially, the plan is to be transporting those who reside at The Barrington, other assisted living facilities will be considered in the future.

The schedule would be to pick up the residents at 9:00am and return them at 11:00am. This would allow our friends the opportunity to attend either the 9:30 service or Rev. Jack King’s Sunday School class.

For more information, contact Jim Shirey at [email protected] or 217-0172.
