The
Blessings for our
Operation Christmas Child Boxes
Today we invite you to pray for the children that will receive one of
these boxes along with the message of how much God loves each of
them. You are also invited to volunteer to help put shoe boxes in
cartons and move them to the garage after the last services in the
Sanctuary and the Chapel at 12:00 noon today.
Beginning on Monday, we act as a Relay Station for other churches
and organizations in the area to drop off their boxes from November
16 - 23. Last year we collected 2,539 boxes which included the 448
filled boxes that our church returned.
Relay Station Open in Church Garage November 16 - 20 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. daily
November 21 & 22 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon
November 23 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Sign up on the schedule outside the church office to volunteer for
one of the time slots. If you have any questions, please contact
Bill Rising, [email protected].
TODAY’S OCTOBER MISSION OFFERING
Christmas for Others Food Baskets
Today’s Mission Offering continues to raise funds to be used to underwrite the expense of the purchase of food to fill three large shopping bags for each family and also to include a shopping card from Kroger. The food basket cost per family is $ 90. We are still working toward our goal of $ 17,300 in hopes of serving around 192 families. We currently have collected $ 13,031.62. Your generous offerings will help us reach our goal by the end of November when the food will be ordered. To make your donation today, you may make out a check to FUMC, with “Christmas Food Baskets” in the memo line. Cash offerings may be placed in an envelope with a “Christmas Food Baskets” notation written on the front of the envelope. Christmas Food Baskets is one of our mission efforts that does not appear in our church operating budget and depends solely on special offerings taken throughout the year.

Do you have a comic strip that you follow? Something that lightens the morning with
its charm, or gives you a second to consider something that may have escaped your
notice? One of the first books that my brother allowed me to borrow was a Peanuts
cartoon book. It was old. It went back to his childhood and he was eight years my
senior, so everything from his young life seemed old to me. But the Peanuts’ books
were special. They taught me that not everyone sees things from the same point of
view. That people who paid the most attention, might use what they observe to their
own devices. That sometimes the things we want most hover just out of our reach.
That it is okay to believe in something that no one else does. And that sometimes the
dog really is having the most fun.
I haven’t seen the new movie, but I have been assured that it follows the story line and the drawing line with
as much consistency as possible. I am having to adjust to my flat Peanut friends suddenly becoming 3D and
digitally drawn. Their message stays the same, but the delivery has to change so that the next generation can
learn the same lessons that Charles Shultz taught me when I was a kid. The church knows how difficult these
changes can be. Jesus preached truth in new ways that required new stories, but in all things he stayed true to
the power of God’s grace and love. We are constantly called to the same purpose. May we be able to see
God’s goodness in the newness that comes with each generation.
Blessings,
Rev. Janet Stilwell
Can you believe that the Christmas season is almost here!? This is a joyous time for most of us, but this season can be very difficult and lonely for the homebound and those that are grieving for a loved one. Many of them long for the times when they spent the holidays with family and friends. If they don’t have their family as they used to know it, the church becomes their new family.
Here is our plan: We have about 75 homebound members and those that have lost someone this year at FUMC. The Caring Ministry would like to have volunteers take a Christmas gift to them during the first week in December. Volunteers can be individuals, families, or a group of friends. These gift-bearers will be nicknamed “Santa’s Little Helpers.”
The gift bags will already be put together and ready for you to pick up and deliver. There will be no cost to those delivering. All we ask is that you spend 15 minutes with the homebound member that you are matched with.
This is the perfect way for our congregation to bring the spirit of Christ to our grieving and homebound members during this special season. Please consider becoming a “Santa’s Little Helper.” Let’s put huge smiles on the faces of these precious members.
If you or your family would like to participate, call the church office at 936-756-3395 and tell Janet Cable that you want to be a “Santa’s Little Helper.”
We stay in touch with most of our homebound members through Home Communion, visitations, and Hometouch. If you know any member who may not be on our list, please call or e-mail their name to Janet Cable at 936-756-3395 or [email protected]. We don’t want anyone to feel left out during this Christmas season.

Thanks for your lovely anthem in our morning worship. And it certainly was a great morning of worship
on all fronts! A special thanks to Kathy Daniel for joining us on flute. Keep up the good work on your
Christmas music. Remember that the Chancel Choir will not meet for rehearsal during the week of
Thanksgiving. We’ve also begun work on the Requiem for worship in January and New Orleans in
February. Keep your prayer list active.
Heartwarmer for the week: “How hard it is to listen, really listen. It’s a habit, a ministry, a way of
life. But it needs cultivating. Listen to your children, to your spouse, to an elderly person, to your
pastor’s sermon, to music, to the sounds of nature. Listen for God.” (Betty Rowland)

Discipleship is the practice of being a Christ-follower through worship, prayer, study and acts of compassion and justice found in
witness and service. We become disciples as we practice living out our lives through knowing, loving and serving God in the world.

Whether it be the loss of a loved one, a job, or a relationship, the holidays are always more difficult when we have to face them with significant change. The pastoral staff encourages each of you to attend this powerful service of hope. As is true with all of our worship services, all are welcome to attend. Please consider inviting anyone you think might benefit from this hope-filled service.

The Gospel Reading Plan… is coming soon
On November 29, the first Sunday in Advent, the congregation is invited to begin a Gospel Reading Plan that allows participants to join together and read all four Gospels in chronological order and in parallel between Advent and Pentecost.
Small groups, Sunday school classes and individuals may participate by reading their Bibles according to the reading guide or picking up a regular print or large print Gospel Plan Book containing the scripture texts divided into weekly readings. The cost of each book is $10.00. Books are available in the church office at any time.
If you do not have a Sunday school class or small group, or if your class is not participating in the Gospel Reading Plan small groups will be offered on Sunday morning for those who wish to fully participate in small group discussions and the video. These groups will be offered at 9:45 a.m. in the Library and at 11:00 a.m. in the Asbury Room. Also, a small group will be offered on Wednesday nights, 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., in Room 113. Childcare is available.
The Gospel Reading Plan concludes on Pentecost Sunday, May 15, 2016, with one-worship at 11:00 a.m., celebrating our 6th grade Confirmation and the reading of the Gospel Reading Plan and concluding with a church-wide lunch on the grounds.

Welcome to the Contemporary Worship service at FUMC-Conroe. This is a time established for people of faith to join together and give thanks and praise to God, to learn from God’s Holy Word, and to be reminded of our connection to one
another.
We’re glad you’re here and hope that you experience the fullness of God’s love and grace during your time
with us.
If you are new to First United Methodist, please be sure to stop by after the service and speak with the pastor. It’s a great way for us to connect with new friends and to answer any questions you
