PRINCIPAL’S REPORT CONT.

I am very impressed also with the way that families have thrown themselves into the PE challenge and I

thank you all for committing so strongly to the children’s education and wellbeing, for supporting the

teachers at home who have spent most of their days in front of screens supporting the children and planning

and meeting with hours of professional learning, and for the personnel at school who have brilliantly, and

with upbeat, good humour supported the school to remain open.

Thank you all…we have survived the worst and I look forward to your continued support as we move into the

staggered return to school. We look forward to seeing the 3-6s on the 9th June.

Phillippa Adgemis – Principal

3/4T Online Learning Whether it is learning at school or at home our students are doing an awesome job.

I had my bag and my drink packed imagining we were actually flying on a plane! On the way we saw the

countryside and then we saw the shadow of the plane. We saw buildings and little houses on the way and

when we landed in Sydney we got to see the Harbour Bridge.

We got on a bus and then we ended up on the Endeavour and Mrs Thurgood showed us all around. She

showed us Captain Cook's room, the medics’ room and the room below where the ship was steered.

And then Mrs Thurgood left all of the students in Sydney and took all the teachers to Hawaii, Aloha!

– Angus.

On Friday the 15th of May, Mrs Thurgood, my class and I went on an excursion and it was the best! First we

went to the airport and we got stuff, a sun hat, glasses and a bag. And we went on a 6 minute plane trip to

Sydney.

When we got off the plane, we went on a bus that took us around Sydney and then we went on the

Endeavour Replica ship and we got to look around inside the ship. I like the room that Captain James Cook

went in. I learnt lots of new facts about Captain James Cook and it was the best excursion ever.

- Luke

It’s so loud I’m covering my ears. Why is there so many people here? Wow! On the 15th of May, Mrs Thurgood and my class and I went on a virtual excursion to Sydney. We all went to Sydney for a reason and that reason is to visit the Endeavour Replica. We had to pack our backpacks. We had to bring a piece of fruit, a sun hat and a water bottle that we could drink while we were waiting for the plane. But first we went to the airport and it was noisy. Mrs Thurgood had to mark the roll all the time to see if everyone was here. We got on the plane and we took off and it was a 6 minute plane trip. When we got off the plane, we took a trip around Sydney on a bus. We all got off and she marked the roll again. We walked to the replica and we learnt so many facts and we had so many questions to ask. It was the best experience to be even close to a plane trip. -Natalya

5/6F Online Learning Tallyn - Glilbert

All his life he had waited for this moment. Gilbert was ready to grow his legs.

He had been a tadpole and all he saw of daylight was beams of light shining down under the water,

barely reaching his home. It was a cold, dark beginning to his life, he was determined to get legs as soon

as possible, knowing deep down he could not make legs grow faster. After all of his planning to make it

faster were done for. He realised he had thought long enough to keep himself entertained while his legs

were growing! He finally had legs!

Mackenzie - Door of Mystique story No one ever returns once they pass through the Door of Mystique. One beautiful day I was going for a ride on my bike and I saw this door I was very intrigued of what was behind that door so I rode up to my friend’s place and got her to come to the door with me. We got there then we started to hear voices. We were scared but we really wanted to see what was behind that door. We could hear the voices and banging. We decided to go in and after we went in the door slammed closed and we could not open it. It was dark. After we walked around a bit and we could not get out we realised that we were stuck in there probably forever.

INVISIBILITY At 9:00 in the morning the school bell rang, Kahden hated school. He always got bullied about his hair, his glasses and his clothing. His sister Kailey was a popular girl with all of her school friends. They offered Kahden every day to join their group but he always said, ‘No’. Kailey knew why, so she told her friends and they nodded. They knew what to do! Kailey knew who the bully was, his name is Sam. He's tall and rude to everybody apart from his friends. Suddenly Kailey remembered something when she was driving to school. Kailey saw a shop that said ‘mMagical Rocks That Turn You Invisible. When school finished Kailey brought her friend Mackenzie to the car. She told Mackenzie what was going to happen and she nodded in agreement. Kahden slowly came to the car with his head down he hopped in the car Kailey drove to the shop where she had seen it. She parked the car and asked Mackenzie to go in and get the rock and she said, ‘Yes.’ Kailey gave Mackenzie $40.00 in case it was expensive and she came back with the rock and the $40.00. Kailey gave Mackenzie the eyebrows she rolled her eyes she said, “We were the first customers in 1½ years!” We gave Kahden the rock and read out loud what the card read. It said touch the skull in the middle. Once to turn invisible then tap it again to turn uninvisible so if anyone bullies or annoys you use the rock. We gave Kahden the rock and the card and told him not to lose it. We asked him to quickly try it and when he did he disappeared! Then we asked him to come back and when he touched it, it worked he was no longer invisible. The next day at school the bell rang for lunch. Kahden was about to come over when Sam tapped Kahden on the shoulder and started picking on his outfit and said he was a nerd. Kahden grabbed out his rock Sam snorted at the rock he said, ‘What are you going to do with that ugly rock?’ Kahden touched the skull he turned invisible Sam was shocked and jealous that Kahden had a magic rock and he didn’t. Kahden came and sat down in between Mackenzie and Kailey, he then pressed the skull on the rock and turned uninvisible. Everybody gasped in surprise, Kahden smirked at us he then whispered, ‘Thank you’ to us. We all gave him a nod he then became one of the popular boys with Kailey and her friends. Sam never picked on Kahden again.

Lily

Hi my name is Lily and this is my pet Dawn, she is a sunrise horse.

She is called a sunrise horse because of her distinctive colouring on her back. She is one of the strongest

horses in the world and her ability to burst into flames and glow like the rising sun.

She is a 1 year old and loves going for rides. I found her as a little foal, her mother had abandoned her so

I brought her back to my farm I then raised her. Now she can jump 4 feet high and is a great friend.

Sometimes she bursts into flames and it gives me a fright. The reason why they burst into flames is

because in the wild they use this skill to scare off predators and to show their dominance against other

horses. She is a great horse but don’t approach them in the wild because they are very territorial.

Mia – Gilbert All his life he had waited for this moment. Gilbert was ready to finally wander off into the wilderness. Gilbert got into his little hiking outfit that his frog mother had made him especially for this moment then put all of his gear in his tiny little backpack and was all ready to go out of the pond for the first time in his whole life, "I think I'm ready Mum," Gilbert said happily Gilbert poked one leg out of the pond and he was off he hopped and hopped for hours. He was near a tiny little pond so he decided to just go and get a little drink and fill up his water bottle. As Gilbert was getting water for the rest of his journey he came across a fish and not just a little fish it was gigantic, Gilbert tried his best to hop away from the fish but before he could even take one step the giant fish came out of the pond and got Gilbert in his mouth Gilbert was shocked, scared and just wanted to go back to his home his pond. A few hours later Gilbert found a stick in the fish’s stomach Gilbert thought it was amazing because he had an idea that he could climb up to the top of the fish’s mouth and start poking his way out. A few minutes later Gilbert made his way up to the top of the mouth he started poking and poking the fish’s mouth so hard that the fish opened his giant mouth and spat Gilbert right out. Gilbert was so happy in himself he started hopping and hopping until he found the place that he belongs, his home, his pond. When Gilbert hopped in the pond he found his mother sitting down on her rocking chair sleeping. Gilbert didn't want to wake her up so he gently hugged her, gave her a kiss and said, "I love you Mum I'm home".

Mitch – Balloon

Let me tell you about my life as a balloon... it all started when I was at a birthday party

and there were heaps of people and lollies and jumping castles and every one was nice

except this one little kid. He came up to me and grabbed the string and let me go outside

into the air.

I went flying thought the air and I went travelling further and further away from the house

and then I started to go through big, tall trees, and I was scared that I was going to get

popped.

When I got out of the trees I got into a big city and then I crashed into a big, tall tower. I

crashed into another big tall tower but this time into the tower’s window. It was opened

and when I went inside and it was another kid’s birthday and when the birthday boy saw

me he was happy because it was a talking balloon. He showed his mum the balloon. The

birthday boy asked his mum, “Can we keep the balloon?” and she said, “Yes we can keep

the balloon and then I asked, “Am I going to stay here?” and the mum said “Yes you are

going to stay here for the rest of your life.”

I was very happy that I didn’t have to travel anymore.

Dear Phillippa We understand the current situation is challenging for everyone. Adapting to online learning, balancing work and family needs, plus everything else that comes with COVID-19 has been incredibly stressful for many teachers. Please remember, you are doing an amazing job!

For young people, social distancing, changes to normal eating and exercise routines and increased time on social media are not only impacting their general wellbeing but also their body image.

Body image struggles are very real during this time and there are a number of ways Butterfly can help support a positive relationship with body, food and exercise in young people.

VIRTUAL STUDENT PRESENTATIONS Butterfly face-to-face presentations are now available online! We have 3 newly refreshed sessions for secondary schools:

LET'S TALK Body Image In A Digital World

LET"S TALK Appearance Ideals & Expectations

LET'S TALK Eating Disorder Myths (45 minute sessions)

We will work within your preferred platform to provide students with practical strategies to support body confidence and empower young people to reach out for help, particularly during these challenging times.

LOVE YOUR BODY WEEK FOR SCHOOLS - COMING SOON! Love Your Body Week for Schools is a really fun and engaging way to connect body positive messaging to your whole school community.

Whilst we encourage participation during the month of September you can use the resources for primary and secondary age students at a time that suits you.

The ME you Don’t See lesson plan, one of the resources for Love Your Body Week, which explores identity beyond physical appearance, would be a great activity for students to do remotely.

Registrations for Love Your Body Week for Schools will be going live next week.

You don't need to do anything now! We will send you an email to let you know when you can register.
