THE CONFESSOR A Publication of St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church
VOLUME 27, NUMBER 9 SEPTEMBER 2017 www.steddy.org
One Pig, Two Pig
Red Pig, Blue Pig! That’s the theme of our 52nd annual Cochon de Lait.
It all kicks off next month on Friday, October 20 at
6 p.m. There is a lot of work and preparation that still
needs to be done. We will need volunteers in all areas.
Would you like to volunteer this year? This is a great
way to get involved in the Parish and meet new people.
Below are some of the Cochon chairpersons and their
contact numbers. Please call one of them to offer your
help today!
Chairman Matthew Tarifa ............................ 416-4680
Co-Chairman Steve Gueydan ........................ 214-8638
Construction Chair George O’Neil ............... 458-9127
Game Booths Chair Missy Rousset ............... 427-9508
Consider volunteering to help set up the fair during the
evenings on October 16-19; or tear down the fair on
October 23; or work a few hours in a food or game booth.
Would you or your company like to be Cochon sponsors
or contribute prizes, trinkets, discount coupons, gift
certificates, or promotional items to our game booths?
There are many ways to help, just plan to get involved!
When you receive your Raffle Tickets, please consider
purchasing or selling them. If every parish family sold or
purchased their book of tickets, this Fair would be a
financial success before it begins. Your Parish needs your
support.
For information on volunteering or making a donation
of any kind, please contact the Parish Center at 888-0703.
Parish Family Day Family Day has been celebrated in the Archdiocese of
New Orleans since 1980 to promote and strengthen
family life and the parish family. No matter how different
and diverse the many forms of family take in today’s
society, we are all part of the common family as children
of God. That family is most visible when we come
together as a parish family to worship and celebrate.
Our theme is Meeting God in the Home. The Trinity—
Father, Son and Holy Spirit—gives us the strength and
graces to know that our family is sacred, especially in the
details of our ordinary lives. We are the Body of Christ,
the Family of God, but it is often difficult to understand
the giftedness and importance of family life without
guidance in how to experience and grow in the grace and
beauty that God makes available in each family.
Our 2017 Family Day will be celebrated on Saturday,
September 23, beginning with check-in at 11 a.m. in the
cafeteria. A picnic-style lunch will be served. You are
asked to bring a dessert to share with your parish family.
We have included a reservation form below for you to fill
out and return to ensure sufficient food for all. A donation
of $5 per family is appreciated but not required.
After lunch, there will be games for all the
children: Inflatables, Water Balloon Toss
and Free Throw Basketball & Football
Contests. The Knights of Columbus will
also host a Soccer Challenge for boys and
girls ages 9-14 in the back field. Bingo for
everyone will be in the cafeteria. Donations of prizes for
the bingo games may be brought to the Parish Center.
The day will conclude with the 4 p.m. Vigil Mass.
Family Day presents a wonderful opportunity for
everyone to become better acquainted and to feel more a
part of our Parish family. Come for the whole day or part
of the day. Just be sure to come!

Lord, Teach Me To Pray
Lord, Teach Me To Pray is a three-part prayer series
rooted in Ignatian Spirituality which is designed to help
men and women learn how to pray. The three parts are
taken in succession. Each part is a prerequisite for the
next part. For each series, participants meet in a small
group with trained facilitators guiding the group in prayer
and helping you share your faith.
Part III for men, Discernment and Gifts of the Spirit,
provides a general theological catechesis of the Holy
Spirit with emphasis on the gifts of the Holy Spirit,
followed by an introduction to St. Ignatius’ Rules for
Discernment. It will be offered in our Parish Center for
men from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Wednesdays beginning
on September 20.
For more information, please contact Joe Pulizzano at
915-4529.

God’s Plan for YOUR Life
Morning of Reflection, Saturday, September 30
Everyone is invited to come explore the answer to the question
“Does God have a plan for your life?” during a morning of
reflection at St. Edward the Confessor Parish, on Saturday,
September 30.
God did choose to create you, as you are, uniquely made in his
image and likeness. He chose to give you life through the parents
he selected for you. And, yes, he selected your brothers and sisters.
Did God create you; then, leave you on your own? Is he there with
you every day? Why did he let you do some of the things you did?
Why did he let bad things happen to you? If he has a plan for you,
how are you supposed to know that plan?
Come join us in an exploration together. We will look at the
past, the present and the future. Can we prayerfully discern the
Lord’s involvement in our lives and his hopes and dreams for us?
The morning of reflection will begin in church with Mass at
8:30 a.m. A light breakfast will be served in the Pastoral Center.
The morning will then include brief presentations, video clips,
quiet time for prayer and opportunities for questions and
discussion. The morning of reflection will end by 12:30 p.m.
This day is sponsored by the St. Edward Evangelization
Committee, facilitated by Barb and Joe Rosolino, and is open to
all. It will help us plan for the day better if we know how many to
expect, so please RSVP to the Parish Staff at 888-0703.
From September 27
through November 5, the
greater New Orleans
community will be
participating in the 40
Days for Life Pro-Life
Campaign.
St. Edward Parish will host an all-night
adoration vigil for the success of this campaign
beginning at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4
and ending at 6:45 a.m. on October 5 in our
Adoration Chapel.
Our Parish will also participate in sidewalk
prayer at the Planned Parenthood site at 4636
S. Claiborne Avenue in New Orleans on
Thursday, October 5 between 7 a.m. and
7 p.m. Registration for both of these events will
be held at St. Edward after all Masses on
September 23-24.
You may also make a commitment to pray or
fast for this important cause during our sign-up
weekend. If you miss the sign up weekend, call
Barbara Rosolino at 885-5761 to register for the
sidewalk prayer on October 5 or Sheila Butler at
889-0334 to sign up for adoration on the night of
October 4-5. Come join us even if you do not
sign up.
The three pillars of 40 Days for Life are:
Prayer and Fasting to End Abortion: Prayer
is at the center of the 40 Days for Life
campaign. Pray daily for an end to the
injustice of abortion. Christ told us some
demons can only be driven out by prayer and
fasting. The two go hand in hand. Prayer
keeps us rooted in the fact that it is our desire
to carry out God’s will. Fasting is a sacrifice
that helps us reach beyond our own
limitations with God’s help.
Peaceful and Compassionate Presence:
Participate any day between 7 a.m. and
8 p.m. in legal and peaceful witness at the
site of the Planned Parenthood facility at
4636 S. Claiborne Avenue.
Outreach: Mention the 40 Days for Life to
your family, friends and co-workers. Come
to the 40 Days Campaign Kick-off Sunrise
Prayer Event on Wednesday, September 27
at 6:30 a.m. and the campaign’s Closing
Vigil on Sunday, November 5 at 5:30 p.m.,
both held at the Planned Parenthood site at
4636 S. Claiborne Avenue. There will also
be a Halfway Event on Sunday, October 15
at 5:30 p.m. at the Women’s Health Care
Center at 2701 General Pershing St.

A new school year! New teachers and new
beginnings to learn and grow! Jesus grew in
wisdom, age and grace before God and man.
Take a moment and consider how He is calling
you to follow Him. We are all growing in age,
but how about wisdom and grace? There is no
better way than by spending time in His
presence. He is the best of teachers!
We invite you to come spend time with Jesus in the
Adoration Chapel on Monday, Wednesday or Friday
from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. If you would like to join us as a
committed adorer or substitute, please call Sheila Butler
at 889-0334.
Former Student Helps Parish
With Eagle Scout Project
Last April, Dillon Rousset began his
journey to becoming an Eagle Scout.
After meeting with both Fr. Seiler and
Dr. Becker, a project was agreed upon.
Dillon met with Robert Clark, the Parish
Maintenance Director, to discuss
creating catch basins under each of the
downspouts along the covered
walkways. These areas must be filled
with sand several times a year as the
ground washes away from the rain causing low spots.
Dillon contacted many local businesses asking for
monetary donations or materials needed. Through many
generous donations, he was able to secure all of the
necessary materials. On July 22-23, Dillon led a group of
12 scouts in marking, digging, filling with sand, and
laying edging and pavers to complete the catch basins.
And on Saturday when it rained, they saw how well the
completed catch basins worked. Having completed this
project, Dillon is one step closer to earning the Eagle
Scout Award. The catch basins give our walkways a
completed and manicured finish!
Dillon gives a big thank you to those who helped make
this project possible: St. Edward the Confessor School
and Parish, Boy Scouts and leaders of Troop 269,
La Pavers, Quikrete, Pavestone, The Agency of M. Grass
Group (Realtors), Priority Systems, Gulf South
Healthcare Mgmt., LFS Glass and Glazing, Sandcrab
Consulting and many other family and friends.
Dillon is pictured below by the finished product. St.
Edward Parish thanks you Dillon!

Safe Environment Training All parish and school volunteers who have ongoing,
unsupervised contact with minors–or anyone who attends
an overnight event with minors–must undergo the
Archdiocesan screening process which includes attendance
at a Safe Environment Training session (lasts about 2
hours) before they can volunteer. Please note this includes
room mothers, regular volunteers, coaches and field trip
chaperones.
The Archdiocesan Safe Environment Training will be
held at St. Edward on Wednesday, September 20, at
7 p.m. in the cafeteria. We suggest that if you are
planning to volunteer or chaperone a field trip this school
year that you complete the training requirements well
ahead of the dates of the events in which you are
interested.
STEAM's second General Membership Meeting will
be on Wednesday, September 6, in the cafeteria at
7 p.m. If you are a current member, new member or if
you’re interested in joining STEAM, attend this meeting
with us for fellowship, dinner and an opportunity to be part
of the important work here in our community.
Our STEAM Mass is Sunday, September 10 at 10 a.m.
Please wear your STEAM shirts and lend a hand by being
an usher or lector at the STEAM Mass! STEAM will host
a coffee and donuts social in the cafeteria after Mass.

be held in the cafeteria on Monday, September
11, at 7 p.m. Grill your steak and watch
Monday Night Football (Saints vs. Vikings) on
the big screen! The event is free to all new members.
STEAM is also planning a Tailgate Party on Saturday,
