LOCAL LEADERSHIP, GLOBAL STRENGTH
Its comprehensive range of world renowned brands offer
a unique combination of counterbalance forklifts, electric
powered pallet trucks, stackers, order pickers and
narrow aisle equipment.
Toyota Material Handling Australia (TMHA) is the
Australian subsidiary of Toyota Industries Corporation
(TICO), the global leader in material handling equipment.
Its local assets include nearly 700 staff, of whom
more than 60 percent are dedicated to service and
parts provision, and a rental fl eet of more than 10,000
vehicles.
The Toyota Material Handling Australia network has
branches and dealerships in every state, with additional
dedicated service centres and a satellite service network
to extend customer support activities nationwide.
Its range of Toyota internal-combustion and battery-
electric counter-balance forklifts extends from 0.9 tonnes
to 24.0 tonnes and has been market leader since 1987,
with cumulative Australian sales exceeding 50,000.
In recent years the company has expanded its focus
from the counterbalance forklift fi eld to become a total
solutions provider for the full range of materials handling
equipment and related services.

The change was facilitated in 2000 by Toyota’s global
acquisition of the BT Industries Group, incorporating the
BT Lift Truck and Raymond Forklift brands. The combined
group is now the world leader in terms of sales and
turnover according to respected international publication,
DHF Intralogistik, which has named TICO as the global
number one in material handling equipment for 2010-11.
The local benefi ts of this global realignment have
allowed Toyota Material Handling to use the synergies of
the expanded group to offer equipment solutions which
more closely match customer needs than has even been
possible before.
Prior to the acquisition, BT was the world leader in
warehouse trucks and Toyota was the world leader
in counterbalanced trucks. BT and Toyota’s forklift
operations complement each other geographically, as
well as in terms of products, resources and expertise.
As a result of the acquisition, Toyota became a full line
supplier, realising greater effi ciencies, higher service
levels, more fl exible production and maximising the
potential of BT Lift Truck and Raymond Forklift brands.
These premium brands are now sold and supported
in Australia as specialised options within the range of
material handling solutions available through Toyota
Material Handling Australia.
Australian consolidation was crowned in 2007 with the
establishment of a state of the art facility at Moorebank
NSW, combining a national headquarters and NSW
branch operation on one 34,000 square metre site
designed to accommodate future growth.
Facilities include a massive parts centre and a 59
bay workshop to perform pre-delivery work on new
machines, as well as servicing a rental fl eet exceeding
4,000 units for NSW customers.
The service workshop is equipped with specialised tools
and equipment to carry out maintenance and repair work
which cannot be done in the fi eld.
State of the art training resources include an online
E-Training facility which includes course curriculum
material for technical training as well as all up to date
technical manuals and product literature which can be
accessed through an on-line portal by staff and dealers
throughout Australia.
TMHA has invested heavily in all aspects of its
operations to anticipate the needs of the Australian
material handling equipment market in which its share
now stands at over 30 per cent.
The Moorebank facility alone can support annual vehicle
throughput of up to 3,000 units including the three major
forklift brands of Toyota, BT and Raymond, as well as
aircraft towing tractors and ‘Huski’ skid steer loaders for
the earthmoving and construction industries.
The Toyota name has been a signifi cant part of the
Australian material handling scene for over four
decades, since the local operation became one of its
parent company’s early export markets.
Toyota, which is widely acknowledged as the world’s
best manufacturing organisation, began industrial
equipment production in 1956 in Japan, a little more than
20 years after producing its fi rst automobile.
Toyota has grown to become a global brand represented
in 170 countries, with annual sales exceeding ten million
vehicles. Its material handling equipment operations
have followed a parallel path to world leadership.
Through its Toyota, BT and Raymond brands the
company has committed itself to the principle of kaizen,
to steadily improve its products and expand the range of
material handling options they provide.
Toyota material handling products have become
market leaders in Australia and throughout the world
by providing the highest levels of safety, reliability,
performance and productivity.
