We can only hope the weather persons are “spot on”. I trust you all had a happy Easter with family and friends. See you at the swap meet. Sharon

LADIES’ CORNER
March Luncheon
Fourteen ladies, mostly wearing something green, met at Kathy Yoder’s for a great lunch with an Irish menu of potatoes and green salad with a variety of toppings and condiments. Everything was so tasty and fun. Kathy’s daughter, Cindy, was the acting “hostess with the mostest” giving Kathy time to enjoy her guests while not expending all her energy, as she was recovering from a bout of pneumonia. We were treated with small green Leprechaun hats filled with goodies at each place setting. Thank you Kathy and Cindy for a lovely day!!!

Anne meets up with Dana while she is picking up her from the mechanic.
Anne asks, "Everything ok with your car now?"
Dana replies, "Yes, thank goodness. I was worried that my mechanic might try to rip me off, so I was relieved when he told me all I needed was $12 worth of blinker fluid."

How to Identify a 1942 to 1947 Ford Pickup Written by floyd drake iii
Early Ford pickups, like this 1935 model, use many of the same components from year to year.
American vintage truck image by Pierrette Guertin from Fotolia.com
Early Ford pickups, or those of the flathead V8 era, do not have standardized vehicle identification numbers like the
vehicles of today. Identification depends on visual methods as well as engine and frame numbers. Due to their age,
many of these vehicles are restored with parts from a variety of sources -- many components were interchangeable
from year to year. You can use three methods to identify the vehicle. In doing so, you can also verify that both the
frame and engine are from the same vehicle.
Things you need: Wire brush Cleaning solution
Instructions
Find the engine date code casting. Telusplanet.net puts it on top of the bellhousing at the rear of the engine, just
before the transmission. It is a three-position code -- "69A," for example. Some codes are preceded with the
letter "C," designating Canadian-manufactured engines. This number must be referenced to a listing similar to
the one found on the Telusplant.net. The code "69A" identifies a 1946 engine. Locate the frame serial number and write it down. According to Van Pelt Sales' Early Ford Serial Number Web page,
it is stamped in three locations -- the front, middle and back of the frame rail on the driver's side. The only visi-
ble stamping is the forward one, visible when looking down into the engine compartment, between the front
cross-member and the firewall.
Compare the serial number to an identification listing. The serial number is a sequential vehicle production number
carried over from the previous year -- 1GA-326,417, for example. Match it to the chart found on Van Pelt Sales'
Early Ford Serial Numbers page, which lists beginning-to-end serial numbers for each particular year.
Look for visual characteristics of the 1942 to 1947 Ford pickup truck. 1942 to 1947 Fords are very similar, the ma-
jority being produced during World War II. Van Pelt Sales' model identification chart notes each year's charac-
teristics, especially concerning wheel and grille design. This page offers identification illustrations for each truck
under the respective year headings.
Tips and warning
Visual characteristics identify body particulars. By referencing the engine date code and the frame serial number,
however, you can determine if both are from the same year. This is an important step due to the possibility of an
Engineswap. A combination of all three methods ensures a positive identification.
Cleaning solution and a wire brush may be necessary to clean the number locations before viewing.

Grand Opening of the new Sellwood Bridge
March 12, 2016
Below: Doug and Marcie were invited to bring their beautiful ‘40 Ford to help celebrate and participate in the Old Car Parade. They drove
Commissioner Amanda Fritz across the bridge.
From John Jaeger: Here are photos of the driving of our 1937 Ford, Saturday, at the MASSIVE Sellwood Bridge party event, where hundreds and hundreds of people were present. There were two VERY old cars in front of the 1937 Ford, thus I think the 1937 Ford is the THIRD personal (non business) vehicle to EVER drive over the brand new Sellwood Bridge !!! Some other old cars followed, in the Old Car Parade - with passengers of WELL know people. Note Mr. Jules Bailey (currently Multnomah County Commissioner. and now, running for MAYOR of the City of Portland), was the FRONT seat passenger, waving to all the people. It was quite a event, with me sitting next to, who may be the new MAYOR of the city of Portland !!! He and I BOTH have beards ……….. (Thanks for your news and photos, John!!!)

March Tour, 2016
Hosted by Frank McNatt
Everything worked out in the end on the March tour. It was actually Sunday the 13th, not Friday the 13th, but one would not have known it. First of all, the scheduler at the Settlemeir House call three days before the tour and said they had over-booked and we could not see the house. I decided to just do the driving tour and go to a late lunch at the Country Cottage Restaurant. The second thing, the weather was nasty. We had everything from hail to sun. One of our members called to say he could not make it because the street was flooded. However, in the end, 28 brave souls braved the harsh March weather and showed with smiles on their faces. There were two of us that drove V8s—Don Blatchford and I. We went over the river and through the woods for about an hour and a half with one pit stop in Canby. We barely got rained on at all; more sun than rain. We arrived at the restaurant about 2:30 and had a very nice meal. The people at the restaurant were very accommodating. All who attended seemed to enjoy their food and received a primrose to plant to make up for the Settlemeir problem. There were 12 drawings for gifts and when it was over everyone got to leave with something in their hands and a smile on their face. So Sunday the 13th is still better than Friday the 13th.
