4er Ticket 1b (4 Journeys) 9.70€ (6€ Children 6-14) 4 individual tickets. Must be validated (stamped) be-fore use.

Tickets can be purchased on the train, in the station or in some shops. Please note that machines do not accept normal Debit or Credit cards and tickets can usually only be paid for with coins, not cash notes. So, keep your change!

Tickets that don't have a date and time printed on them, must be validated before use (ie. 4er Tickets). Tickets can be stamped in the train.

Public transport in Cologne is self-controlled, but ticket inspectors do sometimes come into the trains to check tickets. The fine for travelling without a ticket is 40€.

Public transport runs from 5 am till 1.30 am during the week, with some lines open 24 hours from Friday to Sunday morning

The Cologne Welcome Card costs 9€ per person per day or 19€ for a group. It can be purchased at the Tourism Office. The card gives you free use of public transport for 24 hours and discount at a various tourist attractions including the Opera, Zoo, Chocolate Museum and Fantasy Land. Regional trains in Germany are run by Deutsche Bahn

TIP! For short journeys, it is better to avoid IC (Intercity) or ICE (InterCity Express) trains. These trains are fasters but more expensive. Instead take RE, RB or IR trains, these are regional and much cheaper.
