Pilates Studio Overview: We are waiting for you to become part of the fast growing Pilates Studio at Flying Horse. Try something new and exciting as you build your core strength, tone your body and alleviate pain while having fun and working hard. We offer Group classes, private 1:1 sessions and duet sessions. Our prices are extremely reasonable and we will help you attain your fitness goals. We recommend any beginners to Pilates to sign up for three private sessions to meet with your instructor 1:1 to learn the basic concepts, introduce you to the equipment and learn the language before attending the existing group classes. A Private Pilates session is $65.00 for 1-hour of private instruction.

Featured Pilates Topic : Does Pilates promote weight loss? The short answer is yes, Pilates is supportive of weight loss. In many cases just beginning Pilates classes is enough to jump start weight loss. However, as time goes by you may find that your body becomes accus-tomed to your workout level. Then, you will need to increase the intensity of your workout enough to help you continue to burn extra calories. Here are some ideas to help you amp up your workout:

Do a Faster Paced Routine Pilates is sometimes done slowly, especially at the beginner and intermediate levels. This gives a student a chance to establish in-ner-attention, good alignment, and familiarity with the exercises. But if you want to burn calories and lose weight, you might want

The Club Corner to create opportunities to do your Pilates with more zest. One of the best ways to do that is to get the pilates principles of breath and flow working for you and pick up the pace.

Fully Commit to Each Exercise Even if you can't move through a routine rapidly, do make sure that you get the most out of each exercise. Stretch to your fullest length at every op-portunity, go for the extra scoop of the abs, breathe deeply, be precise, move with control and grace. This kind of fully engaged attitude is very much in keeping with what Joseph Pilates taught, and increases the exer-tion level of your workout tremendously.

Add Equipment Adding equipment or different equipment, to your workout will help build muscle and strength by giving your body new challenges. Remember, mus-cle burns a lot of fat. If you are only doing Mat Pilates try an equipment class for new challenges and a kick-start to weight loss or your fitness pro-gram. Use Less Resistance Now here is a Pilates trick that is not used by many other fitness systems: If you are working out with Pilates resistance equipment, decrease the resis-tance level. This seems counter intuitive, but the instability that less resis-tance creates provides a significant challenge to the muscles as they attempt to maintain control and balance, especially the core muscles. This technique works very well on the reformer where you can use lighter springs, but you can apply the same principle to a lighter resistance magic circle or fitness band. You may be surprised at the level of intensity that instability can add to your workout, especially as you work to maintain precision and control during both the exertion and the release phase of an exercise, as we do in Pilates. Workout More Frequently Working out more often is an obvious choice for weight loss and it can work like a charm. After all, the more opportunity you take to increase your respiration, build strength, and tone your muscles, the more weight you can lose and the trimmer you will appear. Private Session Location: We continue to offer Private Pilates sessions upstairs in the Athletic Club in a private room adjacent to the fitness offices located near the weight room. This will give you the opportunity to train with a private Pilates Instructor during peak Club hours without the interference of other existing group classes. Schedule your Pilates session now by emailing Jamie at [email protected]

The Club Corner Co-owner and Coach George Heidinger A lifelong coach, began his career coaching 8-and-unders for a summer league at age 15. He has since served as an assistant coach for all levels of swimming teams, and head-coached for two different club teams as well as high school and summer league teams. George coached stroke technique camps in seven different seasons at Carnegie Mellon University, assisted in and organized nu-merous other swimming and training camps and also became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist accredited by the National Strength and Conditioning Association in 2006. He has been selected as a coach for the Al-legheny Mountain Zones All-Star team three times and has developed numer-ous athletes that went on to excel in college swimming programs of all levels. In addition to strength and conditioning, the outdoors and the energy that kids evoke, George's passion is encouraging athletes to pursue personal excel-lence regardless of their potential, while respecting the "whole person". Co-owner and Coach: Anna Heidinger Anna, formerly Anna Trinidad, has grown up in Colorado Springs swimming. She attended Cheyenne Mountain High School where she was an 8-time individual high school state champion and 4-time Colorado State High School swimmer of the year. After graduating high school, Anna attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison to attain her Bachelor's of Science in Secondary Education-Family and Consumer Science. While at Wisconsin, she was a multiple, individual division I NCAA qualifier, 2-time swim team captain, and an All-American. Throughout Anna's swim-ming career she qualified for Olympic Trials in 2000, 2004, and 2008. After her undergraduate degree, Anna attended the University of Denver to receive her Master's in Higher Education-Sports Administration. She was the assis-tant men's and women's swimming coach at the University of Denver and has many years of experience in club coaching. Anna also is a certified personal trainer, with certifications as a professional exercise specialist and corrective exercise specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. She is extremely passionate about total student athlete development and thrives on assisting people of all ability levels in achieving their goals. Anna enjoys spending her free time with her husband George and her daughter Sophea. Learn to Swim Manager: Bridgette Schram Bridgette brings an accomplished background in both swimming and community service to Pikes Peak Athletics. As a student-athlete at the University of Nebraska-Omaha (UNO), Bridgette attained her Bachelor's degree in Social Work while competing as a standout swimmer for the UNO Maverick swim team. Upon graduation, Bridgette was selected to serve a year-long term with the National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC), a federal service program that works to strengthen communities throughout the country. As an NCCC mem-ber, Bridgette spent much of her time in the Gulf Coast region, assisting in the coordination and implementation of disaster recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and also assisted in emergency preparations for Hurricanes Gustav and Ike. Following the completion of her NCCC term, Bridgette joined Rebuilding Together New Orleans, where she performed home repairs and led volunteer efforts in some of the city's most devastated neighborhoods. Most recently, Bridgette managed and was the head instructor for a New Orleans-based swim school, where she also worked to expand the group's outreach to at-risk and disadvantaged clients. She was also the Head Coach of the Benjamin Franklin High School swim team in New Orleans prior to moving to Colorado Springs.

Seasons Change and so Does Our Skin

Kimberly Dwors

Change is in the air, summer is winding down and fall is right around the corner. As the seasons begin to change so does our skin, and what our skin needs to retain a healthy glow. Our Colorado cli-mate is already a harsh environment that we live in, with very little moisture in the air year round. But as our warm summer nights turn into crisp fall evenings our skin requires even more attention to main-tain a healthy balance. As the weather shifts to a colder climate, we tend to add heat to our environment. The addition of heat to our surrounding environ-ment pulls the moisture out of our skin. Hydration is therefore very important during this time and it is essential to prevent your skin from becoming dry and sensitive. Because the cold air outside causes the pores to close, our bodies’ natural oils are not being secreted at the same levels, providing little to no natural protection and hydration. Incorporating a serum into your daily routine before the application of a moisturizer, will replace lost oils and assist the skin in maintaining its hydration. Another important aspect in maintaining healthy skin is incorporating a natural exfoliate into your skin care routine. No matter what skin type you have, everyone can benefit from this. Another important aspect in keeping your skin balanced is to visit a licensed esthetician for customized facials. At The Spa we customize our facials for the needs of each individual client, taking into consideration what our clients’ wants and needs are with each visit. YonKa, the product line we use in The Spa, helps us not only to customize our services, but also provide our clients with the best at home care as well. With each facial that we offer, it provides not only a relaxing experience but helps to maintain hydration within the skin that is essential for our Colorado climate. The Spa, offers a number of facials using professional prod-ucts, and our highly trained staff provides you with a one of a kind experience. Even after one customized facial you will no-tice a difference in the glow and hydration that your skin re-tains.

Come down today to start on the road to healthier skin!
