WELCOME to the CHURCH of SAINT SEBASTIAN In my own name and on behalf of the People of Saint Sebastian’s, welcome to our Parish! If you are visiting, coming back to the Church and Mass after some time away, or looking for a Parish, you are most welcome here at Saint Sebastian’s.

Parish Registration Registration is the official way we join a parish community, please stop in the Parish Office or register online to become a registered parishioner. To be considered an active registered member of the parish, members are asked to give of their time, talent and treasure. The parish is in need of and welcomes all three parts of your stewardship.

Sacrament of Baptism Congratulations on the birth of your child! We require all parents and godparents to attend Sacramental Preparation Classes. Once you have called the rectory to plan for the baptism of your child, we will have someone contact you to set up a special appointment for Preparation classes. These classes are usually done one on one with each family and are conducted by a couple who are well prepared to teach and assist in Baptismal Preparation.

Sacrament of Matrimony Congratulations on your engagement and decision to enter into a Catholic marriage! Saint Sebastian Parish will help you in your preparation to ensure that you make this serious and sacred step in your life a holy and happy one. The day and time of your wedding must be arranged in person by the prospective bride and groom themselves as soon as they feel called to marry. No arrangement can be made by phone or parents. All arrangements should be made nine months prior to the wedding date and done prior to scheduling the reception. The first meeting with the Pastor may be scheduled by calling the Parish Office at (401) 751-0196. Spiritual preparation is a key part of this special time. Frequent participation in the sacraments during this time is important, particularly weekly Mass attendance. It is also strongly recommended that you bring yourselves to the Sacrament of Reconciliation during this time of preparation.

Religious Education By their word and their example, parents are the first and principal teachers of their children concerning our Catholic Faith. The Religious Education of Saint Sebastian’s stands ready to assist parents in their sacred and most important responsibility. Should you have any questions about the program please contact Ms. Kristen Gold at [email protected] or Mr. Bob Short at [email protected]

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Saint Sebastian’s also offers Level One, ages 3 - 6, of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, commonly referred to as CGS. CGS is a Montessori-based program of faith formation. Please contact Mr. Bob Short, Catechist, at [email protected]

Christ is Risen, Alleluia!

He is Risen Indeed, Alleluia!

Alleluia! My dear brothers and sisters, uttered over two thousand years ago, these are the words that changed the world, and continue to change our world until this very day. On this great Feast we hear one of the two most important liturgical words: THIS is the day the Lord has made. Through no reenactment; through no recreation of that first Easter morning, we on THIS day we celebrate that Christ, having risen from the dead dies no more, and calls us to rise with Him on THIS day and every day we live until we come to stand before Him. How does Christ call us to rise with Him today? Consider the following: • Who knew that every Mom and Dad could be a

great homeschool teacher? • Did you ever think playing board games would be

fun in 2020? • Realizing the precious gift God has given to us in

our family and friends; and while Facetime isn’t as good as being together, at least we can see one another.

• Appreciating the great gift to be able to worship God.

• To be thankful for the grace to regularly receive the Sacraments, especially the Eucharist and Reconciliation.

• For children who come and color your sidewalk, so you know you are not alone.

• For the way this suffering has brought out the good in people.

• For the benefit given to our planet because of less pollution from cars and planes.

• For the hope we have because of our faith. • For all the efforts to bring God into our homes

through all manner of social media. • For our health.

Christ calls us to rise with Him today through all of these ways and more. But he also calls to rise with Him by: • Replacing fear with faith. • By embracing the Cross, however the Cross is

manifested to us. • Surrendering to a plan different from our own. • Trusting that God will take care of us, and bring

new life through pain, grief, unemployment, sickness and death.

• Learning the difficult lessons life brings. • Learning less is more. • Accepting our mortality and our finiteness. • By bowing before the mysteries of faith, life, and

circumstance. May we know Christ’s invitation to rise with Him THIS day and every day of our lives; and may we respond with a joyful Alleluia! Let us rejoice and be glad!! I wish you the best of Easters! Be assured of my love and prayers. Until we meet at the altar….. O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to Thee! In the Lord,

AROUND the PARISH STEWARDSHIP: OUR PRESENT, AND OUR

FUTURE

Each day as the mail arrives and I open a set of

budget envelopes; or when I receive an email from

Parish Giving or the Diocesan Fiscal Office, telling

me of your contributions; I am filled with gratitude! I

am grateful for your continued sacrificial support of

Saint Sebastian through the weekly offertory, the

Annual Catholic Charity Appeal, and our capital

campaign, Sharing the Vision, Meeting the

Challenge: Grateful for God’s Providence. Each of

these initiatives shape the life, mission of the Parish as

they provide income for regular and extraordinary

expenses. Each of these initiatives allow to assure the

fiscal sustainability of our Parish today and in the

years to come. For your sacrifice and for your gifts,

May God bless and reward you!

EASTER FLOWERS

A parishioner called the other day and asked if we

were going to have any Easter Flowers this year. The

short answer is: we are. And, with live streaming and

visits to the Church, the beauty of the flowers will

help us battle any blues we have because we are

holding to the Governor’s request to gather in groups

of 5.

An explanation: As it became clear that we would not

physically be in Church for Holy Week and Easter, it

was my intent to completely cancel the flower order.

When I called the florist, I learned that anything that

cut flowers could be cancelled with no problem

because they are purchased when you need them.

Seasonal potted plants, like Easter Lilies, have to be

ordered in advance, assuring the whole sale distributor

that a specific number of plants will be used. To

cancel the entire order would great serious financial

hardship for our local florist. Enjoy the beauty as you

visit Church!

announced very shortly.
