Motorists driving past the Chino Valley Area Chamber of Commerce property on State Route 89 in Chino Valley will notice six new flag poles flying flags representing the six services: Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy and Merchant Marines.
The flag poles and flags were purchased through donations from members of the Yavapai County Veterans Association (YCVA). The flags were raised during a ceremony on Aug. 20 by YCVA members and members of the Chino Valley High School NJROTC. The local chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution also presented the YCVA and Chamber of Commerce with letters of commendation for their efforts in displaying the service flags of our country.
The YCVA is a group of former military personnel from the six services that meet every other Tuesday morning at Gabby's Banquet Hall in Windy Valley Plaza in Chino Valley.
YCVA thanks everyone who contributed money and time in completing this project, and Tracie Schimikowsky and the board of directors of the Chino Valley Area Chamber of Commerce for supporting the placement of the flag poles on Chamber property.
Any current and former members of any military service who are interested in sharing breakfast and would like more information about the YCVA may contact Mike Tobey at 928-830-0098 or Darryl Croft at 928-636-3917.
