Britain is in a recession, but recovery is probably on its way

Delhi, Aug 12: Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is the total of all the things and services made in a country during a certain time.

A set of 3 months is called a quarter because it forms a quarter (1/4th) of a year.

A country is said to be in recession when its GDP shrinks for 2 quarters in a row.

As the data for April-May-June 2020 quarter was compiled, Britain’s GDP was found to be 20% lower than it was in the quarter of Jan-Feb-March.

This means that if UK produced goods and services worth 100 pounds in Jan-Feb-March 2020, they only produced worth 80 pounds in April-May-June.

    Here are some key points:

Services sector makes up 80% of UK’s economy. This sector is hard hit.

Shops and factories have been closed since March.

GDP started growing in May and has continued to rise in June also. It grew 1.8% in May and then 8.7% in June.

The last time Britain was officially in a recession was in 2009.

2 Light Combat Helicopters deployed in Ladakh

Delhi, Aug 12: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is a company owned by Government of India. Today, 2 helicopters made by HAL were stationed in Ladakh at forward posts. These are very cold areas that demand high performance from everyone – soldiers and equipment.

Vice Chief Air Marshal H S Arora also used this helicopter to travel to the forward base at Ladakh. These Light Combat helicopters have been designed and developed in India by HAL. They have been made using Indian components.

It is hard to build runways and airports in hilly areas like Ladakh. So, helicopters, which need a small area to take off and land, are important in these areas.

    Let’s Scrabble! By Archana Aggarwal

Hola Amigos Let’s talk about the components of the game. The English-language editions of Scrabble contain 100 tiles, in the following distribution with a sum total of 187 points. Remember Alfred Mosher Butt, the founder of Scrabble? He scanned the front page of the New York Times to come to this distribution of tiles depending on their frequency of appearance. 2 blank tiles (scoring 0 points) 1 point: E ×12, A ×9, I ×9, O ×8, N ×6, R ×6, T ×6, L ×4, S ×4, U ×4 2 points: D ×4, G ×3 3 points: B ×2, C ×2, M ×2, P ×2 4 points: F ×2, H ×2, V ×2, W ×2, Y ×2 5 points: K ×1 8 points: J ×1, X ×1 10 points: Q ×1, Z ×1 The 98 tiles (excluding the blank tiles) make up the 2,79,000 permissible words in scrabble. These words are divided as per their length. They range from two-letter words, such as ae and mo, to fifteen-letter words, such as radio activating. While this is the range, it is most useful to focus on words that are up to eight letters long as they are most frequently used by players. Knowing words of different lengths strengthens your word knowledge and ability to win a game. The different techniques of pluralising a word, adding hooks to existing words, playing one to multiple parallel plays is how you move ahead with each turn. We will talk about each of these in the next couple of segments. Adios and see you next time :)

    My Bunny By Aradhya Saha

As I have a bunny, It’s very funny! As it on the road it hops, The seeds on the road pops. As it likes to eat carrot, Its friends are cat, dog, and parrot. As it drinks water, Its blue eyes glitter. Such a thick and fluffy tail, When afraid it turns pale. Such a big and long ears, When it cries it has tears. When the carrot he eats, Anyone cannot defeat. One evening I took him to the riverbank, And even to the huge water tank. One day there was a rain, But my bunny didn’t have any brain, So he was all wet, But with a fever he met. I took my bunny to a vet, But that bunny was my pet, So I was worried yet.
