If the following weather conditions are occurring, then our campus will implement our inclement weather plan (heavy rain, snow, sleet, hail, and/or temperature below 17 degrees with unsafe wind-chill levels).

Unless the weather is inclement, children will remain outside until school begins. If for medical reasons your child must stay inside, please send a note from your doctor. During severe weather we will have the children enter the building to their designated area until the first bell rings for school to begin. If there is inclement weather during the day, the children will

remain in their classroom during recess times. When District 6 decides to delay the opening of school or cancel a school day, the decision will be made with the safety of our students in mind. The decision will be made by 6:30 a.m. Listen for school announcements on KFKA 1310 AM, KVVS 1170 AM, KGRE 1450 AM, and KUAD 99.1 FM. The Denver television stations will also have information if school will be closed. There will also be a message on the main District 6 Facebook Page or website (www.greeleyschools.org).

Visiting Our Campus

As a reminder, all visitors shall sign in at our kiosk located to the left of our school offices. After signing in at the kiosk, all visitors shall report to the school office to show proper identification and the reason for being on campus. Authorized visitors must sign in and out at the school office and also wear a name tag while on the Chappelow campus. Classroom visits must be prearranged with the classroom teacher 24 hours in advance. If you are planning to meet with your child’s teacher, please contact them in advance to make sure they are available to meet with you.

Our Mission

Educating the whole child through the arts

Our Vision

Chappelow Arts Magnet School will develop the interests and talents of students in the arts and enhance all disciplines through an integrated approach that allows students to

achieve artistic and academic success.

Dance News

Although our Fall Concert is over, dance classes are still hopping! At this

time of year, each level continues to work on the Colorado Academic

Standard 1. Movement, Technique, and Performance. This standard

focuses on alignment, a strong center, and a strong foundation in many

dance styles. These concepts continue to serve as the fundamentals of a

quality dance performance. We look forward to performing for the

school on our traditional sing along day, December 19th. The next half

of the year classes will learn more about the history of dance, will give

another concert on March 22nd, and each student will get the

opportunity to create and perform their own choreography. The dance program is part of what makes

Chappelow so special and we are happy to be here!!

Kindergarten News

One of the most important

things parents can do, beyond

keeping kids healthy and safe,

is to read with them. That

means starting when they are

newborns and not even able to talk, and continuing

well beyond the years that they can read by

themselves. Study after study shows that early reading

with children helps them learn to speak, interact, bond

with parents, and read early themselves. Reading with

kids who already know how to read helps them feel

close to caretakers, understand the world around them,

and be empathetic citizens of the world. (Washington

Post, February 2017). The only homework that

kindergarten requires at this time of year is our

monthly reading log. We ask that you either read to

your child or they read to themselves at least twenty

minutes every night.

In Second Grade we have been very busy. We have read many stories with great characters. We have also written stories with real and make believe characters. One project we assigned to the students was to design a pumpkin based on a character from a story. Our students and parents had so much fun creating these character pumpkins!

2nd Grade Happenings

4th Grade Happenings

A big shout out to all of the parents of 4th grade who donated to the food drive. As a class, we brought in the most, and won! We will get to celebrate together soon. Thank you to all who supported us and the Weld County Food Bank! We also have the opportunity to have Museum to You Come to Chappelow and teach us about Manifest

Destiny. Students will discuss and observe American Progress, an 1872 painting by John Gast utilizing the methodology of Visual Thinking Strategies. Finally, the 4th grade class has joined the Colorado Parks and Wildlife's program called S.O.L.E which stands for schools and outdoor learning environments. With this program, we will be participating in a variety of field experiences in and out of the classroom. We're excited for this opportunity and hope to continue in the future!

6th Grade News

In Social Studies we are studying personal finance though the Junior Achievement program. This is a series of 12 lessons that will provide background and understanding of income, budgeting, credit, and saving/investing. After these lessons are taught, students will have the opportunity to attend a field trip on January 24th to Junior Achievement Finance Park to apply what they learned. We have done this trip in the past and it has been a blast! In math class, students are studying the equation of a line as it is represented graphically, in a table, or as an equation. We are also working on Transformations of Two-Dimensional shapes in the coordinate plane. This year our Common Assessment occurs before our winter break on December 14 and 15. Another goal that we have is to complete 20% of our Khan Academy mission each quarter. Students have until January 1 to meet the expectation of 40% as this is the end of the semester.

In Language Arts, students are working to increase their readinglevels by participating in the Accelerated Reader (AR) program. This program gives accountability for the thirty minutes of homework (reading time) that they have each night. Based on the placement STAR test, students receive a recommended reading range in which they can choose books. By reading books in their range each night, their reading skills improve. The December due date for reaching their AR Goal is December 19, 2017. If your child is having trouble finding books in his/her range, please contact me for ideas. Students also complete a major project based on one of these self-chosen books each quarter. The project incorporates reading, writing, and art. This quarter, students are making a Flip Book. The due date is December 8, 2017. I'm sure they would love to share their masterpiece with you!

Even though the weather keeps changing on us, the leaves have fallen outside the classrooms and soon the snow will come, the academic expectations here at

Chappelow Arts Magnet School are staying constant. The teachers and students have spent a semester sharpening skills, routines and procedures for class lessons and homework.

Please continue to check Infinite Campus for information about your child’s grades and assignments, have your child show you their planner, and continue read email communications home from classrooms. We appreciate all your support and time to reinforce learned classroom skills. As the semester comes to an end, encourage your child(ren) to continue to strive for excellence and to show P.R.I.D.E. both in and out of the classroom.
