In 1939, Manson's mother,was sentenced to prison forarmed robbery.

Teenage Charles was found sodomising another boywith a razor blade held to his throat.

He was sent to the Federal Reformatory in St.

Petersburg, Virginia, before being transferred to a moresecure institution in Ohio.

Charles spent his early years with an aunt and uncle inWest Virginia, while his mother was in jail but thecouple were fervently religious and very strict.

He found this regime difficult to abide, and wasconstantly in and out of boys homes and detentioncenters.

G ary Hinman murder:

He was held captive for two days in his home, tortured and stabbed todeath.

Tate s Murders:

Watson cut the telephone wires of the Tate home. . While Kasabianwaited in t the car, the other three Family members entered and stabbedto death the occupants of the house. The first victim was eighteen-year-old Steven Parent Sharon Tate was the last to die, knived by Watsonwhile she was held down by Susan Atkins. Atkins later admitted to useTate s blood to write the word Pig in the walls. Investigators discoveredbadly mutilated the body s of Folger and Frykowski. Inside, near a couchin the living room, they discovered the bloody pregnant body of Tate and,with a rope around his neck and a bloody towel over his face, Jay Sebring.In all, the four victims received 102 stab wounds.

Labianca s murders:

In addition to the four Family members , Clem Tufts and Leslie VanHouten joined the second day of Helter Skelter . Manson orderedKasabian to search in neighborhoods of Los Angeles for potential

victims. Then they decided to attack the home of Leno and andRosemary LaBianca. Watson, Krenwinkel, and Van Houten Killed theLaBiancas s after the commands of Manson. Police found LenoLaBianca with a knife lodged in his throat, twelve stab wounds, andseven pairs of fork wounds. The word "WAR" had been carved on hisstomach. Rosemary LaBianca was found with multiple stab wounds inher chest and neck. On the LaBianca's living room wall, written inblood, were the words "death to pigs" and "rise." On the refrigeratordoor was written, Healter Skelter."
