Greetings To All!The 141st Imperial Session in Houston was a

great experience and a huge success. Thank youfor the opportunity to attend and represent BenHur. Congratulations to our new ImperialPotentate, Jerry Gantt from Arabia in Houston andto our own Ben Hur P. P. Jim Smith, on beingelected Imperial First Ceremonial Master. Also,congratulations to the Nobility of Hikmat Shrinersfrom Brazil on becoming the 196th ShrinersInternational Temple. Please refer to a summaryof voting results from this year’s Imperial Session

as reported by Assistant Rabban Russell Sellers in his article.There’s nothing more exciting than experiencing the Imperial Session first

hand. Simply put, it was exciting to watch and be among all of the Unitsfrom various temples collectively parade through the streets of downtownHouston. Special thanks go out to P. P. Gene Sanders for pulling the Ben Hurfloat in the parade. The enthusiasm and pride was felt everywhere. Thispride and enthusiasm was also demonstrated at the “Walk for Love” whichtook place just prior to the opening of the 141st Imperial Session. If you everhave a chance to attend an Imperial Session, I encourage you to do so.

For the first time this year time was set aside for voting delegates to enjoythe various competitions that took place at the Imperial Session. Ben Hurwas proud to have our Clowns P. P. Ronnie Lee and Nazario Cantu as well asour Highlanders Philip Bates and Bill Herridge competing and participatingat the Imperial Session. Congratulations to P. P. Ronnie Lee on placing 2nd in“Make-Up” & “Character Class” and to Nazario Cantu on finishing in the Top5 for “Hobo”.

Membership decline was a continual concern throughout the ImperialSession. We ended our 2014 overall Shrine membership at 269,555. On apositive note Ben Hur received a Silver Reward recognition for its 2014membership efforts. Thank you to our Ben Hur Membership ChairmanNoble Jeff Clark for traveling to Houston to participate in the variousmembership events at Imperial.

In closing, thank you to everyone who attended and participated in theLampasas parade. It was also great to participate in the parade with severalmotorized vehicles from Karem Shriners from Waco. For more paradeopportunities please join us in Bastrop on Saturday, August 1st; in JohnsonCity on Saturday, August 15th; and in Fredericksburg on Friday, August 21st. Also, don’t forget to come out to our Summertime Picnic on Sunday, August9th, from 2:00 - 6:00 p.m. at The Little Red Barn in Pflugerville for some greatfamily fun.

Finally, please keep Ben Hur Legion of Honor Commander Allan Scholin andhis Lady Brenda in your thoughts and prayers. Allan suffered a stroke whileattending the Imperial Session in Houston. I’m happy to report that Allan ismaking steady progress. Your continued prayers will be greatly appreciated.

LOTTERY PARTY

The Lottery Party is fast approaching. It is onAugust 22, at Ben Hur. Remember to mark yourcalendars. Admission is $ 25.00 per person,payable at the door - UNLESS you bought aSuper Saver Card, then two (2) people get in fornothing. The Super Saver Cards are still on saleuntil August 15. Don’t forget that the LotteryParty includes a dinner with drinks.

As I mentioned earlier, you may also buy achance at a monetary prize. Just purchase achance for another $25.00 at the door, and youmight be a winner. The house keeps 50% ofthe revenue, and you have a chance to win allor part of the rest. Depending how much moneywe take in, we will have one or possibly twowinners that will each get a part of the 50%remaining cash balance.

This year is passing by very quickly. We havegone to TSA and just got back from ShrineImperial in Houston. Both events had a strongturn out from Ben Hur. We also had winningteams at both events. The summer paradeshave also had a great turn out. Thanks to everyclown, motorized vehicle, Shriner and Lady whohave joined us to ride or walk these parades. We have been well received and it’s a great wayto share the fun and fellowship of being aShriner. We have some more parades comingso come spend a couple of hours with us.

July is half gone, and that leaves only August,

before our meetings begin for the fall. Godbless you and your families, this great countryof ours, and all of our service personnelprotecting us from harm’s way, now and in pasthistory.

There is a schedulechange for our monthly golf. Star Ranch has been movedto September 9. Prior to thisAugust 3rd is also at StarRanch Golf Course. TheSeptember 16 businessmeeting will be held a fewminutes before the annualBen Hur Fish Fry. You can“double dip” with two worthyf u n c t i o n s t h e s a m eWednesday evening.

Plan now to play the Tri-Temple golf outing at OsoBeach Golf Course in CorpusChristi on September 15. Thecost is $36.50 to include golf and lunch. Someare going to Corpus on September 14 for apractice round and one-night stay.

Looking ahead to August 2nd is the Ben Hurpicnic in Pflugerville from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. andthe Lottery Party on August 22nd at the Temple.

Upcoming golf outings are October 5th atBluebonnet Hill; and November 2nd andDecember 7th at Star Ranch.

Shrine Temples. We should also congratulateJerry Gantt, P.P., Arabia, on becoming ourImperial Potentate. Also Jim Smith, P.P., Ben Hur,is now our Imperial First Ceremonial Master. Wishing them both well for the year to come.

I can’t believe the year is half over, time flieswhen you’re having FUN!!! We had a goodturnout at the Lampasas parade. Thanks toeveryone who attended. I’m glad we didn’t getinvolved in the water gun fights. We have moreparades in August, so check your calendars andfind one you and your lady could attend and jointhe fun and fellowship. Remember, our Ladiesare welcome to ride on the float with us. It isvery heartwarming when the crowd stands, clapsand thanks us for what we do.

Shriners, Masons, friends and neighbors. Bring

your lawn chairs and come out and enjoy a fun

afternoon. The adjacent Park features a Water

Park($3-Adults, $1.50-Children), Volleyball,Basketball, Play Scapes, Horseshoes and Trails.

Pets are welcome, but must be on a leash! There will be Bar-b-que with all the fixins’, Iced Tea, Lemonade and otherdrinks. The 141s t ShrinersInternational Imperial Sessionwas held July 5th - 9th inHouston, Texas. This was myfirst Imperial Session as avoting representative for BenHur. I had attended one inSan Antonio a few years agoas a Noble; this year, was awhole new experience. As aNoble I was free to pick andchoose which meetings andevents I attended. As a votingmember, I was required toattend all of the session

meetings. Fortunately, this year families were invitedto attend. After a long day, I was greeted back in myroom by my Lady Jenelle and our children. As ourchildren are teenagers, Jenelle and I were able tospend time with fellow Nobles and their Ladies.Whether it was in the hospitality room (Thank youGreg and Vinna!), at dinner, or just hanging out aroundthe hotel we had a fantastic time with our Shrinerfamily.

At the 141st Imperial Session there were 21 IowaCorporation pieces of legislation and bylaw changesand one (1) Colorado Corporation item.

Elections: Imperial Sir Jerry Gantt of ArabiaShriners in Houston, Texas, was elected as the2015/2016 Imperial Potentate. The rest of the officerswere unanimously elected to move up the line inprogression. In the race for the Imperial Outer Guardposition, Brian D. Ball of Hadi Shriners dropped fromthe race, Richard G. Burke of Yaarab Shriners received212 votes, and James E. “Ed” Stolze Jr. of El ZaribahShriners received 511 votes and was elected to theposition of Imperial Outer Guard.

There were two positions for the ColoradoCorporation Board of Trustees. W. Brandt Bede, M.D.of Afifi Shriners was re-elected to another term andRichard I. “Rick” Williams of Saladin Shriners waselected to serve as Trustees. Imperial Sir Jerry Ganttwas elected as Chairman of the Board of Director’s ofthe Colorado Corporation.

For the position of President of the ColoradoCorporation there were two candidates, Past ImperialPotentate Douglas E. Maxwell of Moolah Shriners andPast Imperial Potentate Dale W. Stauss of KemShriners. There were 1272 representatives eligible tovote, 987 voted and 494 were required. Imperial SirDouglas Maxwell received 487 votes and Imperial SirDale Stauss received 500 votes and was elected to bethe President of the Colorado Corporation.

Proposed Amendments and Resolutions: Iwill summarize the results by item number then go intodetails on several of the key items.

Iowa Corporation: Of the 21 amendments allpassed with the exception of numbers 2 & 15 thatwere withdrawn and number 13 that failed.

Colorado Corporation: Item 22 was amendedand passed.

Iowa Corporation Key Items: 1 – Effect ofamendment if passed: The current per capita tax of$15.00 would be increased to $30.00. As ShrinersInternational membership decreases the revenuegenerated by the per capita tax decreases. Thisincrease allows the Iowa Corporation to continue doingbusiness. During the discussions it was brought upseveral times that the board needed to look at costsaving measures. Imperial Sir Jerry Gantt announcedthat the board would be using web conferencing formany of its meetings to decrease travel cost.

7 – Effect of amendment if passed: TheImperial Potentate would have the authority to grant aspecial dispensation for a temple to allow participationin any meeting electronically. During the discussion onthis amendment an example was provided, a templehad an average of 40 attendees. They instituted webconferencing for their meeting and had 287 attendees.

21 – Effect of resolution if passed: HikmatShriners, U.D. are granted a charter pursuant to Article29 of the bylaws of Shriners International.

Colorado Corporation Key Items: 22 –Effect of resolution if passed as written: The“Oversight Committee” will continue with the Chairmanof the Board of Directors of Shriners Hospital forChildren appointing the chairman and four additionalmembers of the committee for the succeeding year.

There was discussion that the Chairman of theBoard of Directors should not be the person to appointthe chairman and appoint the members. A motion wasmade to amend this resolution for Imperial Sir Jim Cainto lead the committee and appoint the committeemembers which failed.

There was further discussion that the currentwording implied that the committee was a standingcommittee. There was a motion to amend theresolution that (1) the chairman of the committee is toserve one year and (2) that no imperial officer is toserve on the committee - this amendment passed.

Effect of resolution as amended: The“Oversight Committee” will continue with the Chairmanof the Board of Directors of Shriners Hospital forChildren appointing the chairman and four additionalmembers of the committee for the succeeding year.The chairman of the committee is to serve one yearand no imperial officer is to serve on the committee -this amendment passed.

Session Announcements: The 142nd ShrinersInternational Imperial Session will be held in Tampa,Florida, July 3rd thru July 7th. The parade will be inYbor City on July 4th. More information can be foundat http:/ / Tampa-2016.com.

During the session it was announced that ImperialSir Joseph “Joe” Savaglio of Kismet Shriners ImperialMarshal elect resigned.
