Gathering to honor the 2019 Presidents and Boards of their respective Chapters – Pete Dufau for the Channel Islands Chapter and Luis Casas for the SFV Chapter, and – attendees will also show support for their Presidents and Boards in 2020 – Pete Dufau again for Channel Islands and Luis Casas again for SFV.
All attendees will be treated to one of the most FUN-Filled events the SFV Chapter holds each year. Sponsored by the SFV Auxiliary, this event generates laughs for those participating, and money for LEAF scholarships.
The dual Chapter Installation and Chinese Auction will take place Thursday, January 23, 2020 starting at 6:30 p.m. at BJs Restaurant and Brewhouse, 6424 Canoga Ave., Woodland Hills, CA 91367; (818) 340-1748.
Dinner is $40 per person with reservation or $50 at the door, payable to SFV CLCA…plus a wrapped gift (gag or serious). Bring a friend…they’ll laugh with you.
Plan to have a fabulous feast and a lot of fun as you bid on wrapped “mystery” gifts. SFV’s Nelson Colvin will again use his famous scatter-gun delivery and creative math to generate monies for scholarships for students in horticulture and related fields.

What’s Your 2020 Vision for Yourself?
New Year, new decade and an opportu-nity to look forward. Hopefully our
foresight will be 20/20! As the Channel Islands Chapter focuses in on how to best serve the local landscape contractor, how are you looking to improve your company or business acumen? This year we will be focusing on bringing you opportu-
nities to do just that…improve your business knowledge, keep you up to date with changes, and bring together the local businesspeople in the Green Industry.
One of the nicer things to look forward to with CLCA will be the 2020 Convention to be held on one of the Hawaiian Islands in early November. I’ve attended a couple of these events over the years with the association and they are a great way for your company to reward you for a year’s worth of hard work. You’ll get educational, networking opportunities outside your local area, along with the ability to showcase your best work with the Trophy Awards.
In 2020, the Chapter will focus on events that are easy to attend, with a mixture of education and fun. A billiards event, for instance,
where you can showcase your abilities on the tables, or learn from our President-Elect pool shark Kyle, from SPJ Lighting.
We have some Chapter Board positions open in 2020, so don’t be shy about stepping in and putting on some resume flex this year. We meet typically in Westlake at Lure Restaurant, and lunch is always delicious and complimentary.
2020 looks to be an on track to be much like last year as far as water availability and fiscal outlook. California’s continuing housing shortage will certainly drive housing starts in construction and maintenance will undoubtedly be eased by better water availability. CLCA continues to offer classes on MWELO compliance. If you haven’t attended, it is highly recommended and worth-while.
CLCA is one of the few or only options Landscape contractors have for self-improvement and recognition in the Green Industry. Is 2020 the year you engage or join the CLCA? I hope it is and look forward to growing with you all in the 20’s!
– Pete Dufau, CLT, CWM; President C.I. Chapter, Board Chairman Birch Financial, Chairman Landscape Water Conservation Foundation, President Ventura County Lincoln Club, Board Member Golden Oak Co-Op.

HOPING to protect his new-found treasure from being stolen is Domingo of Pete’s staff.
THESE CI VIPS enjoyed another laugh-out-loud event. They are Brandon Bogeaus, Dan Dvorak, Evan Moffitt, Kyle Hillendahl, Natalie Balyasny, and Carolina Pratt. CI involvement can be fun.
LCIS REP Natalie Balyasny scored on a nice bottle of booze. But will she take it home? Fat chance.
DON’T STEAL THE WATER FEATURE – This lovely water feature in front of the office tower had a handwritten sign, “Please don’t steal.” Do you suppose
they knew we were coming? (Just kidding!)
LOOKS LIKE Aaron from Pete’s staff just nabbed Natalie’s Christmas surprise. Not to worry, there are really no losers in this game. Just a bunch of laughing
winners.
VIEW FROM 22 STORIES is awesome. Thanks again to Michael Martin for securing the Christmas party site. Don’t miss the next one.
SITEONE VIP Evan Moffitt displays a new Thermos he chose from the wrapped gifts. But will he get to keep it?
That’s the fun of this crazy game.
JUST WHAT I’VE ALWAYS WANTED It appears as though Dan Dvorak liked
Brandon’s stuff too…and stole it.
AMERICAN NURSERIES’ Brandon Bogeaus scored with a bag of goodies but didn’t get a chance to enjoy it
for very long.
EDUCATION CHAIR Carolina Pratt shows off her white elephant win. Preceded by a Board Meeting and a fabulous lunch, it was time for our yearly exercise in
friendly stealing and side-splitting laughter.
IT AIN’T OVER ’TIL IT’S OVER Brandon’s new prize unfortunately would also be stolen.
GENEROSITY BECOMES YOU – President Pete Dufau (4th from left) generously treated his entire
staff to the Party and Gift Exchange. They are Jose, Domingo, Aaron, and Dolores. Welcome.
