Savings & Credit Associations

The Chalmers Center (Curriculum)

Support the promotion of savings and credit groups as an outreach of the local church Intention: use of

persons/organizations who desire to create access to lump sums of money for the user and encourage a personal relationship with Jesus Christ

Motivation: desire for individual lives, households, and communities the be transformed through the power of the Holy Spirit through the church and savings/credit groups

The Chalmers Center (Curriculum)

Comprised of a series of training guides that may be used in the formation of savings and credit associations (SCAs) Focus is on SCAs instead of

microcredit (three reasons)

1. Lack of technical knowledge,

2. Balancing grace (and forgiveness) with responsibility (and obligation) to ensure loan repayment

3. Balancing tensions between the developmental impact on clients, spiritual transformation of clients, and financial sustainability

The Chalmers Center (Curriculum)

Divided into a series of steps as a suggested process for a facilitator to follow Orientation with Churches and
