EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS/PASTORAL VISITORS are needed at Hackensack University Medical Center, 30 Prospect Avenue, Hackensack to bring Holy Communion and visit patients.

A Eucharist Minister’s workshop will be conducted on Saturday, May 19th at 10 AM and Wednesday, May 30th at 1 PM at the Medical Center by one of the priests on staff. Anyone interested in this ministry will receive a mandate given by the Archdiocese of Newark after completion to be used at Hackensack University Medical Center.

BLUE MONDAY & BLUE SUNDAY

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. The color representing this commitment is blue. Blue Mondays during April and Blue Sunday, April 29th, are projects that were created to raise awareness and to educate Church members and the community about the scope, nature, and consequences of child abuse and child sexual abuse and to promote positive efforts in the community to end this problem. The intention is to draw attention to the issue by wearing blue, and letting others know what Blue Monday and Blue Sunday are about. Calling attention to this risk for our children can only help in our efforts to promote safer environments and protect children from ever encountering an abusive situation.

Next Sunday, April 29th is Blue Sunday. It is “A Day of Prayer for Abused Children and Those Who Rescue Them.” For more information about these projects, please visit https://www.nationalexchangeclub.org or http://www.bluesunday.org.

MEDICAL MISSION UPDATE

September 28th may seem like a long time away for most people, but for the 30 people who have volunteered for the OLMC medical mission to José Galvez, Peru, it is fast approaching. Although much remains to be done, here is a status update on our work.

We're working with the Peruvian Consulate in New York City to obtain temporary medical licenses for our doctors. There is an extensive list of documents to be compiled but we're

chipping away at each requirement. This week we booked airline flights as flight information is one of the items required by the license application. (Volunteers are expected to pay their own way.) There is no question that we are going!

Because we want to provide as much care as possible for the inhabitants of José Galvez, we are in contact with local doctors and clinicians to understand the medical care that may be available for follow up. Our focus remains limited to general and pediatric medicine and we're sure to see some patients who need care beyond our scope.

The medical team has developed a "wish list" of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies that will be needed during the mission. We've contacted several non-profits and have already received boxes of supplies. The Office of Concern has also collected items such as soap and Band-Aids for the mission. Simultaneously, we've contacted several shipping brokers who will transport materials from OLMC to our base in Lurín, Peru. As you can imagine, there are all sorts of customs regulations for international shipping, especially when it involves medication.

We are grateful for the ongoing support of parishioners and the Academy families. This is truly a community effort. In the upcoming weeks, we will be asking for specific donations from the Academy classes and the parish. Thank you for your prayers and your active support.

At our May book club meeting, we will be discussing “A Gentleman in Moscow” by Amor Towles. This is the story of Count Alexander Rostov, an unrepentant aristocrat who is sentenced to house arrest. The novel is rich in humor and beautiful scenes as it relates the Count’s efforts to gain a deeper understanding of what it means to be a man of purpose.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word catechists share the Catholic faith with the young people of our parish community. CLOW takes place during the 10 AM Mass and is held in the school classrooms.

We are looking for individuals to lead a small group of children in reflecting on the Scripture readings. Interested individuals are invited to observe a CLOW session before committing to this ministry. Scheduling is done on a rotating basis, typically once a month. This ministry is open to high students and adults who have received the Sacrament of Confirmation.

A Message from the Principal…

Excerpts from the State of the School Address

April 12, 2018 We have gathered this evening to reflect on the “happenings” at OLMC since I became a member of the Warrior family in July 2016. Building upon the spiritual foundation of Baptism and our communal celebrations of Eucharist is the imparting of the knowledge of our Catholic faith and how it empowers us to recognize our gifts and talents and how we can best use these gifts and talents to serve God, neighbor and self!

Communication is key to a successful experience at the Academy! We work hard to ensure an open line of communication with you.

Parental involvement is top priority at OLMC. If you are interested in joining on as a member of the Parent Guild Executive Board or a class parent for next year, please contact me via email.

In a world where Catholic education is struggling, we at OLMC are booming with excitement. Our enrollment is at a steady incline and curriculum advancements continue to progress. OLMC has some of the best enrichment opportunities for all students with all interests.

We will continue to grow in the right direction under the leadership of Father Dan and myself. The children and their overall experience mean so very much to us!

Dear Brothers and Sisters of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, This page in our weekly bulletin is devoted to “Giving and Gratitude.” We report here on the financial facts of our life and also use this site to share with you the many expressions of gratitude received in our parish for all the many kindnesses you do, for which OLMC gets the credit. Today, I am the one who needs to express the gratitude. In addition to your faithful and generous ongoing support of our normal mission, there are two other things that you have done for which I am grateful. 1. The capital campaign for the Archdiocese of Newark launched in 2016 entitled “We Are Living Stones.” Seventeen percent of our members made pledges to the campaign in the amount of $621,116. Many are still making the regular payments in fulfillment of those pledges. Thanks. You need to know that the parish has already received back over $166,000 as our share of your total contribution. Some of those funds are designated in support of our Medical Mission and will be utilized in October of this year. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you. 2. In addition, we are back to the regular pledge drive in support of the Archdiocese of Newark called “Sharing God’s Blessings.” This campaign has been with us for 30 years and is a vital support to the Archdiocese. Thanks to all those who are supporting this appeal on top of all the good causes appealing to your generosity.
