O Lord, who never failest to help and govern them

whom thou dost bring up in thy steadfast fear and love:

keep us, we beseech thee, under the protection of thy

good providence; and make us to have a perpetual fear

and love of thy holy Name; though Jesus Christ thy

Son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the

unity of the Holy Spirit, ever one God, world without

end. Amen.

First Reading Jeremiah 20:10-13

Jeremiah said: I hear many whispering. Terror is on

every side! “Denounce him! Let us denounce him!” say

all my familiar friends, watching for my fall. “Perhaps

he will be deceived, then we can overcome him, and

take our revenge on him.” But the Lord is with me as a

dread warrior; therefore my persecutors will stumble,

they will not overcome me. They will be greatly

shamed, for they will not succeed. Their eternal dis-

honor will never be forgotten. O Lord of hosts, who

test the righteous, who see the heart and the mind, let

me see your vengeance upon them, for to you have I

committed my cause. Sing to the Lord; praise the

Lord! For he has delivered the life of the needy from

the hand of evildoers.

Responsorial Psalm 69:7-9,13,16,32-34

R/. In the abundance of your mercy answer me,

O Lord.

It is for your sake that I have borne reproach,

that shame has covered my face.

I have become a stranger to my brethren,

an alien to my mother’s sons.

For zeal for your house has consumed me,

and the insults of those who insult you have

fallen on me. R/.

But as for me, my prayer is to you, O Lord.

At an acceptable time, O God,

in the abundance of your mercy answer me

with your faithful help.

Answer me, O Lord, for your merciful love is good;

according to your abundant compassion, turn to me. R/.

Let the humble see it and be glad;

you who seek God, let your hearts revive.

For the Lord hears the needy,

and does not despise his own that are in bonds.

Let heaven ad earth praise him,

the seas and everything that moves therein. R/.

Gradual Psalm 120:1,2

When I was in trouble, I called upon the Lord:

and he heard me.

V. Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips:

and from a deceitful tongue.

Page 2: The Catholic Church of St. Mary the VirginJun 25, 2017  · Psalm 120:1,2 When I was in trouble, I called upon the Lord: and he heard me. V. Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips:

Second Reading Romans 5:12-15

Brethren: As sin came into the world through one man

and death though sin, and so death spread to all men

because all men sinned—sin indeed was in the world

before the law was given, but sin is not counted where

there is no law. Yet death reigned from Adam to

Moses, even over those whose sins were not like the

transgression of Adam, who was a type of the one who

was to come. But the free gift is not like the trespass.

For if many died through one man’s trespass, much

more have the grace of God and the free gift in the

grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for many.

8:00 am & 6:00 pm Masses only

Alleluia. V/. The Spirit of truth will bear witness to me,

says the Lord; and you also are witnesses. Alleluia.

Chanted by the Choir at 10:30 am Mass

Alleluia.

Alleluia. Alleluia. O Lord my God, in thee have I put my trust:

save me from all them that persecute me, and deliver me.

Alleluia.

The Holy Gospel Matthew 10:26-33

At that time: Jesus said to his apostles, “Have no fear

of men; for nothing is covered that will not be

revealed, or hidden that will not be known. What I tell

you in the dark, utter in the light; and what you hear

whispered, proclaim upon the housetops. And do not

fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul;

rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in

hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not

one of them will fall to the ground without your

Father’s will. But even the hairs of your head are all

numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value

than many sparrows. So every one who acknowledges

me before men, I also will acknowledge before my

Father who is in heaven; but whoever denies me

before men, I also will deny before my Father who is

in heaven.”

During the summer months, SMV is collecting paperback books to help stock the shelves at the USO in DFW airport. The USO allows the servicemen and women

deploying to pick up & take books for their trip free of charge. Through your generosity, we have delivered 5 boxes so far & would love to deliver more. If you’d like to help, please donate paper-backs only (they are light and fit in backpacks more easily). Any genre, fiction or nonfiction, is fine. Even young adult books are welcome, since some of the troops are only 18! You can drop your donations in the box in the Narthex or bring them to the parish office during regular office hours.

What to do this summer? The kids already bored after Vacation Bible School? It’s too hot to go outside! Well, how about the Rosary with the children, maybe add a decade every week. I have adapted some comments below from Dr. Taylor Marshall regarding the rosary.

“In the year 1214 Saint Dominic, the founder of the Order of Preachers, was in anguish because he was failing in his attempt to convert the Albigensian Cathar heretics. St. Dominic attributed this to the…gravity of sinfulness of the heretics and the poor example of Catholics. He went alone in to the forest and wept and prayed continuously for three days to appease the anger of Almighty God. He flogged his body and scourged his flesh. From the fasting, pain, and exhaustion, he passed into a coma.

Dominic experienced an apparition of Blessed Mother Mary while in the coma, which forever links Saint Dominic and the Rosary. The Immaculate Mary with three angels appeared and asked St. Dominic, “Dear Dominic, do you know which weapon the Blessed Trinity wants to use to reform the world?” Dominic's response was Blessed Mary knew better than he because she is a part of our salvation. Mary responded, “I want you to know that, in this kind of warfare, the battering ram has always been the Angelic Psalter* which is the foundation stone of the New Testa-ment. Therefore if you want to reach these hardened souls and win them over to God, preach my Psalter.” * (The “Angelic Salutation” is the “Hail Mary” prayer and the Psalter is the 150 Psalms. Thus, she wanted 150 Hail Mary's - which is what the Holy Rosary is - 15 decades of Hail Mary's with 15 corresponding biblical mysteries of her Son’s life to contemplate.)

Shortly after this apparition he preached the Holy Rosary to the unconverted Albigenisan heretics. He set apart fifteen mysteries of the rosary, grouped them in to three sets of five decades each. The groupings were designated as Joyous Mysteries, Sorrowful Mysteries and Glorious Mysteries. This design helped the Albigensian heretics to better understand and to imitate the virtuous life of our Lord Jesus Christ and the Immaculate and Blessed Mary. The Catholic Church has only known the Rosary for about 800 years. But why? Why did Heaven come up with this plan with beads and mysteries?

In many ways, the 1200s were the high point of Christian civilization. It was the era of Saint Thomas Aquinas and King Saint Louis of France. Since then, it's been a bumpy ride. The Rosary has been the chain or the seat belt that we need in these times of turbulence. We need Jesus who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. The Rosary is a tan-gible sign that we are connected to Him. When I touch my Rosary, I know that Mary is connecting me to her Son. Jesus became human through Mary and that human connection is found there with her.

I'd really encourage you to pray the Rosary every day for the rest of your life. Make it part of your daily routine. It should be more important than brushing your teeth or checking your email. Praying the Rosary only takes 2% of your day. 15-20 minutes. Pray the Rosary daily. It will give your soul peace. You'll learn more about yourself and about God. You will get lost in the rhythm of the prayer and discover yourself with Jesus. It's truly beautiful!” ad Jesum per Mariam, Fr. Dean
