THE GREATEST AMONG US Whom do you admire? Is it the Presi-dent of the United States or a movie star or a billionaire? These are people whom the world exalts as great. Like the Pharisees in today’s Gospel, they have places of honor wherever they go. Would you like to follow in their footsteps? The scriptures for today offer differ-ent examples for us to follow. Jesus tells us that the greatest among us are the serv-ants. These are the people we are to honor and imitate. We are called to be like Paul, who worked hard to serve the needs of his communi-ties, and Jesus, who gave his life in ser-vice to the world.

VOCATION WEEK National Vocation Awareness Week will be celebrated in our country November 5-11, 2017. We ask our Lord for more dedi-cated, holy priests, deacons and consecrat-ed men and women. May they be inspired by Jesus Christ, supported by our faith community, and respond generously to God’s gift of a vocation.

Almighty and eternal God, in your unfail-ing love you provide ministers for your Church. We pray for those whom you call to serve the Church as priests. Inspire in them a generous response. Grant them courage and vision to serve your people. May their lives and service call your people to respond to the presence of your Spirit among us that, faithful to the Gospel and hope of Jesus the Christ, we may: announce glad tidings to the poor, proclaim liberty to captives, set prisoners free and renew the face of the earth. Amen You are invited this Thursday and every Thursday to the bilingual adoration for vocations on “O” street at 6:00 pm. “Send, O Lord, holy apostles into your church.”

The consequence of these new require-ments will cost us additional mon-ey and will delay the needed pro-ject until spring of next year, be-cause of the weather. 130 St. Mary’s Agape Youth participated to this event, the biggest group of about 800 youth in Reedley. Special thanks to the adult leaders that helped during the event.

The cost was about $5, 000.00. Thanks to the Caballeros de Colon and Knights of Columbus for partially sponsoring the cost of the two buses. Any donation to cover the cost is still welcome.
