AEGEAN

The Aegean Cat originates from the Cycladic Islands in the Aegean Sea, where they occur naturally.

Page 3: The cat family

AFRICAN SERVAL

It is a strong yet slender animal, with long legs and a fairly short tail. Due to its leg length, it is relatively one of the tallest cats.

Page 4: The cat family

APPLEHEAD SIAMESE

Appleheads came about after years of selective breeding during which Siamese breeders strove to produce a longer, thinner, more extreme-wedge look in their show cats.

Page 5: The cat family

AMERICAN KEUDA The American Keuda has

some pronounced similarities with the Egyptian Mau breed, including body type, habits, and a belly flap, not seen in other breeds. Since the belly flap allows extra extension when running, and thus more speed, this would be a successful adaptation for any cat that needed speed.

AMERICAN LONGHAIR

The American Longhair / Maine Coon is a large-sized cat. Its coat is can come in a different variety of colours. Like the breed name suggests, they have long hairs.

Page 7: The cat family

AMERICAN SHORTHAIR

The breed is believed to be descended from English cats (the forebears of today's British Shorthairs) brought to North America by early European settlers to protect valuable cargo from mice and rats.

Page 8: The cat family

AMERICAN WIREHAIR

The first wirehair cat appeared as a random cat mutation among a litter of six born to two barn cats. This single red and white male had odd wiry fur.

Page 9: The cat family

AMERICAN BOBTAIL

According to legend, bobtails are the result of a crossbreeding between a domestic tabby cat and a bobcat. Yodie, a short-tailed brown tabby male, mated with a seal point Siamese colored (cat) female to create the Bobtail's original bloodline.

Page 10: The cat family

AMERICAN CURL

The breed originated in Lakewood, California as the result of a spontaneous mutation. In June, 1981, two stray kittens were found and taken in by the Ruga family.

Page 11: The cat family

ASHERA CAT

The Ashera cat was a type of hybrid cat marketed by the controversial company Lifestyle Pets. The hybrid cat breed was allegedly a cross between the African serval, the Asian leopard cat, and a domestic housecat.

ASIAN SEMI-LONGHAIR

Like the Asian Shorthair, the breed was developed in Britain, and is not currently recognised by any U.S. Registries. It has full recognition in the GCCF and although it is a relatively rare breed some fine examples have become champions.

BALINESE

The Balinese was originally registered as a 'longhaired Siamese', and examples were known from the early 1920s. The occasional long-haired kittens in a Siamese litter were seen as an oddity, and sold as household pets rather than as show cats.

BRITISH LONGHAIR

The rationale for this breed is that the original longhaired British cat, through interbreeding with imported longhairs, was developed into the Persian and became increasingly massive and extreme in type and with longer, thicker fur than the early Persians.

Page 22: The cat family
