The Case Factory is a Stockholm based company with
an Italian heritage dating back to 1907. We specialize in
handcrafting exclusive leather cases for mobile phones,
tablets and portable computers. These devices are used
by a broad spectrum of the population, and apart from
just offering protection, cases have increasingly become
a way to express personal style and preferences, just like
any other fashion accessory.
By introducing two annual collections, reflecting fashion
trends in colour, textures and patterns, you will be able to
match our products with bags and shoes from the world’s
leading fashion houses. Our products are produced with
leather from the best suppliers in Italy, including our own
family owned tannery. Many global luxury fashion brands
use leather from the same tanneries for their shoes and
bags. Our objective is to offer the most beautiful cases in
the world, and they will always be carefully designed and
crafted with the best material available.
Our flagship store and studio is located in Stockholm on
Nybrogatan 26. Please come by, you´re most welcome!

Our creative inspiration and product heritage is very much
derived from our Italian family history. The art of tanning
and transforming leather into beautiful products has been
an integral part of the family since the beginning of the
20th century. The Case Factory’s Angela Martarelli had
a great grandfather who founded the company Nazareno
Gabrielli in 1907 in her native city of Tolentino located
in the Marche region. Nazareno Gabrielli quickly became
famous in Italy when in 1927, the King of Savoia wanted
the interior of his train wagon to be made of leather.
The company grew quickly and became synonymous with
some of the most exclusive handcrafted leather products
Made in Italy. The following generation acquired one of
the tanneries supplying leather and shortly after, the family
acquired Poltrona Frau which today is one of the world’s
leading producers of exclusive leather furniture.
Until the listing on the Milan stock exchange, the company
was controlled by Angela’s uncle and today Poltrona Frau
also owns the internationally famous brands Cappellini,
Cassina and Thonet.

The Case Factory is predominantly using vegetable tanned
leather exclusively from leading Italian tanneries serving
global fashion brands. Italy has a long tradition and unique
knowledge of producing high quality leather. Transforming
raw hides into a material that will resist throughout time, is
a 30-40 days process combining modern technologies and
machineries with the use natural tannins (found in trees,
vegetables, bark, leaves, wood, fruits and roots).
Among the various tanning methods, the vegetable tanning
is by far, apart from being the classic traditional method,
the most natural and eco friendly type of tanning.
This process is based on the use of tannin, which is the
main active ingredient responsible for the transformation
of the animal hide into a compact and resistant material du-
rable over time. These tannin extracts make the vegetable
tanned leather unique and immediately recognizable from
leather tanned with other methods. The most common and
antique type of tannin is the Quebracho tree extract, a tree
indigenous of Argentina. From its bark, a characteristically
red-colour powder can be obtained that gives the leather
an unmistakable warm and brilliant shade which together
with a compact texture, makes it more resistant to water
and atmospheric agents.

Another important reason why we use leather produced
with natural tannin is that the production process of our
suppliers is strictly monitored to ensure a low impact on
the environment. Being tanned with natural tannins, the
leather can be easily recycled at the end of its life thanks
to its chemical-biological characteristics. Many substances
being used during the tanning process are recycled, and
reused in different fields. Hair removed from raw hides is
transformed into agricultural fertilizer; sludge produced by
the depuration plants is reused in the construction field to
make bricks. Vegetable-tanned leather does not contain any
toxic substance such as azo-dyes, nickel, PCP or chrome
and is highly tolerable for people who suffer from metal
related allergies. Vegetable tanned leather ages with grace.
It becomes older without ruining. The natural ageing does
not compromise its resistance and gives it a vintage look
with warm color shades showing proof of being a genuine
natural product.
