Peacock’s castles and dragons
Hey nonny nonny and forsooth! Our Year 1 Peacock class had
a great outcome on Wednesday this week. They sang medieval
songs, played instruments and danced medieval dances for us.
We then went to look at their wonderful 3D castle designs and
project learning journals. Thank you to all the parents for
attending and a huge well done to Peacock class!
Swallowtail spent some time this week being
scientists. They carried out an investigation to see
if the distance a meteor travelled towards the
moon would effect the size of a crater created on
impact. We all made some great predictions and
worked hard to prove our thinking over a couple of
afternoons.
Wood White’s visit to the fire station
This term Wood White have been learning all about people who help us.
We were very excited to go and visit the local fire station and learn all
about what they do to help people. We saw lots and lots of thing on the
fire engine and even what the firemen have to wear when they are putting
out fires!
Wood White Hospital
Wood White class have been very busy this week looking after all the poorly
teddies in the class. We have been learning all about taking care of each other
and what we need to do if we or someone else gets hurt.
Monarch class swept into the hall this week to practice their superhero
skills. They listened like Supergirl, moved like Spiderman and exercised
like Batman. They learnt that being a superhero is not just about having
muscles but also about problem-solving and making the right choices to
help others.
I look forward to finding out what’s next in store for these budding crime
-fighters and wonder what their costumes are going to look like!
Cool pictures of the week! This week we go around the world to marvel at the wonders of nature. None of these pic-
tures are computer generated. Can you guess what they might be of and where the photos
were taken?
COFFEE & CHAT
Our informal drop-in Coffee and Chat groups are a great way to meet other parents and carers. You don’t have to be an OASIS member to come along
and the groups are open to parents, carers, grandparents, school staff, any-one who might find benefit in chatting about their experiences or who would
like support.
All our groups are hosted by OASIS volunteers who offer a warm friendly wel-come, coffee and cake. Pre-school children and babies are more than wel-
come to attend with their parents.

mark British science week, starting on Monday 11th March. We will end the
week again with our amazing science fair to share all of the wonderful work we
have done that week.
Things you could look at :
Everyday journeys
Journeys through nature
Journeys on earth and beyond
Electric journeys
Journeys of the body
Life cycles
Vehicles
In addition to this all children are invited to take part
by carrying out science projects and investigations as
part of their home learning. This work will be cele-
brated by displaying it alongside each classes display
in the hall for the whole school to enjoy and learn
from at the end of science week.
We will also be inviting parents to come and have a
look on the afternoon of Friday 15th March from
3.05—3.30.
All Entries are to be handed into Mrs Auckland no
later than Thursday 14th March.

Journeys
Roblox on Xbox
A couple of years ago Roblox came to the Xbox. How the parental controls works on the Xbox is slightly different to a PC, Mac or tablet.
Although the Xbox has controls for friend requests, this doesn’t restrict those in Roblox as they are considered a different type of “in-game” friend. However, the Microsoft terms of service for game makers means that players can’t make new friends while playing on Xbox. They will only see friends already made on the PC, Mac or tablet.
Additionally, you can further limit the interactions with other players on the Xbox as follows:
Roblox police warnings
Hopefully, that should clear up exactly what Roblox is and how to keep your kids safe while playing it. The final thing to men-tion is that the slew of tweets, Facebook posts, emails and school gate chatter about police warnings on nudity and stranger danger in the game didn’t originate from Kent Police as has been widely reported.
The real danger here is scaring parents into banning the game and closing down the opportunity for healthy and helpful con-versations about appropriate behaviour online. As ever the best way to mitigate any of these risks in your family is to play the game together and keep devices and consoles in shared family spaces.

real (either drawn or computer-generated)? Which planets could they
NOT possibly be and why?

(FOCS) (also known as the PTA)
"Working together and supporting school life through fund-raising, spending and effort"
We held our first FOCS committee meeting of this year on January 24th. We met in the Brewery tap at 7pm to look at recent requests for funding and to plan the forthcoming FOCS events. After raising over £1700 at the Christmas Fair, the FOCS bank balance is healthy at the moment, but with our ongoing commitment to help the school fund the Acceler-ated Reader scheme, and new requests arising, there are plenty of plans for the coming year to continue raising funds to help the school. We agreed to a range of funding requests submitted by the staff, and the school are looking to arrange a FOCS-funded window cleaner to work some magic to allow light through the school hall windows! It was exciting to hear Mr Crandon share some of his artistic vision and dreams following on from last year's vision evening, and we're looking forward to know how FOCS can help fulfil this vision. We're going to look at how FOCS can help the school to make more use of "the pal-ace" - the room above the school office, and we talked about what needs doing in the Gardenorama area so that it is maintained as a safe, useful and peaceful space for the school.
For adults, on Friday March 15th, the FOCS Quiz Night will be taking place - with a licensed bar and hot food, tickets are likely to sell out fast. Our next meeting will be at 7pm in the Brewery Tap on 7th March - it would be great to welcome you along if you want to find out more about what we do and how we try to do it!

End of term 4 Friday 5th April 1:15pm
Dear Carswell community,
A well-earned rest is coming up next week and I’m sure we’ll all, including the children, be recharging our batteries for next term. It certainly felt like spring was on its way today after the heavy fog lifted and the sun shone down. There was a spontaneous ‘sun bathing’ game created by the reception children in the play-ground: jackets came off and they were lying on them chilling out with their hands behind their backs!
We had a wonderful assembly this morning. We handed out our certificates for kindnesses, being a good learner and being a Carswell Star then celebrated the arrival of some new science resources bought with money raised by these three scientists (see photo below).
They had climbed Snowdon, along with other children who have sadly left, and raised a whopping £1,710.00! Just some of the things we got to improve our sci-ence skills and knowledge were:
3D models of an ear and an eye
A pumping heart model
An Inflatable solar system
Two air resistance parachutes
A 3D model of a human torso
And thirty white coats!
As you can see our intrepid explorers certainly look the part. A huge thank you to all involved from us at Carswell and we all look forward to us-ing our new equipment!
Next term we have a few charity –related events going on. World book day is on 7th March (wear your favourite character costume!). Then we have Red Nose day (15th March, same day as quiz night) and Down’s syndrome Oxford are having a ‘lots of socks’ day (21st March). Watch out for Parentmail texts for more details.
You all have a good week, bye for now!
Mr Crandon
