February may be a short month, but it’s jam packed with fun and heart- warming excitement! Have you bought tickets to the Valentine’s Dance for your little cardinal sweetheart and your family? It’s Tuesday night, February 10th, and it’s not too late! It will be a fabulous night of fun, food and dancing, so, get dressed up and come join us. We’ll keep spreading the love throughout the week with our classroom Valentine’s parties during school on February 13th. More fun and sweets for our sweeties! Parents are welcomed to participate and you should be hearing more about it from your room parent or teacher very soon. Later this month, on Tuesday, February 24th, is our Science Fair and PTA General Assembly Meeting at 6:30pm. I am sure your young scientist has already talked your ear off about his or her plans and may have already started researching, designing, and/or building or setting up THE project. If not, help get them motivated and excited about this opportunity to think outside the box and discover new things! I can’t wait to see what these bright, young minds have come up with this year. That evening before the science fair begins, we will have a very brief and very important PTA meet- ing, in which we need your approval to buy computers for the school. As you know, we had a very successful fundraiser last fall and now it is time to fill some of those items on our GES wish list, thanks to your support! The last week of this month is also our Kids Kan food drive. We have established ourselves as the elementary school to beat for over ten consecutive years, and I’m sure we’ll keep up the trend this year. You will be receiving more information about the food drive very soon. Finally, we have a number of activities and events on the horizon, including our spring fundraiser in April, and we need your help to carry them out successfully. We’ll keep you informed about what’s coming up, and if you can help out in any way, please let us know. Thanks for your continued support! February isn’t just Cupid’s month, it’s American Heart Month! While we may be thinking of the heart as a symbol of love this

month, we should also be thinking about our hearts and how we

can ensure a healthy life. The American Heart Association has a

myriad of resources in support of American Heart Month, helping

families take small steps to ensure a happier and healthier life by

lessening the chance for serious illnesses such as Cardiovascular

Disease and type-2 diabetes.

Don’t know whether your heart is healthy? Use “Life’s Simple 7” by the American Heart Association as a guide:

1. Avoid smoking and using tobacco products

2. Be physically active every day

3. Eat a heart-healthy diet

4. Keep a healthy weight

5. Keep your blood pressure healthy

6. Keep your total cholesterol healthy

7. Keep your blood sugar healthy
