Congratulations—We’re Still the Champs! We did it, AGAIN! We’re the top elementary school for the 2015 Kids Kan Food Drive, bringing in the equivalent of 21,622 cans! GES will be offi-cially recognized on May 15th for this spectacular achievement, and we’d like to extend our warmest thanks to the entire GES community for your dedication. Special shout out to the team of volunteers who came in every morning for over two weeks to collect and box cans, and handle the ac-counting. Teamwork makes the dream work (even during snow days)!
I hope everyone enjoyed the two mornings of Donuts at Daybreak. We had a very nice turnout for delicious Krispy Kreme donuts, Starbucks coffee, juices and fellowship. What a great way to end the week!
After working off those donuts over the weekend, we had a fantastic GES spirit night at the FedEx Forum watching the Grizzlies beat the Kings. We sold over 300 tickets to the game, all in the name of GES school spirit. Our cheerleaders looked awesome performing before the game, the girls and boys basketball team exhibitions were both entertaining, our choir sounded beautiful singing the Star Spangled Banner. It was no doubt a night filled with Cardinal pride!
We’ll continue to bloom with our big spring event, Cardinal Carnaval De Rue on Sunday, April 12th from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. There will be lots of food, entertainment, activities, games, crafts, and fun! Get your bids ready for our silent basket auction, silent art auction, and unique experiences auction. Our children—in cooperation with teachers, par-ents, coaches and directors— are all responsible for class booths, which they will build, decorate, and run at the carnival. Through their efforts, the kids will learn about teamwork, community, school pride, giving back, and working toward a common goal all while having fun. Parents can help by volunteering, and bringing family and friends out for an af-ternoon of great fun, great food, and great entertainment—rain or shine!
Stay tuned… there is more in store in our final weeks of school! Veda Cherry, GES PTA President, [email protected]
In case you missed it, Mrs. Jones colored her hair blue when we hit our Cardinal Fun Run goal!
National Autism Awareness Month
A message from your Accelerated Reader chair, Patti Davis— In the book, “Autistic? How Silly is That!” the main character has brown hair, likes to swim, likes donuts, can catch fish, and has big feet, but feels overloaded at times and awkward in social situations. Communicating is a challenge for him. In the end he says, he’s a person with his own likes and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses, who approaches the world a little differently. Encourage your child to learn more about autism to help them understand that their friends who may be impacted by this disorder are not defined by it! Check out books on autism together in your local library. More AR announcements on page 3!
