The trail will be a mulched path with landscape timbers to define the path and help hold the mulch in place. The path will be combined with an effort to clear out underbrush and add educational signs regarding the plants and other natural features of the ravine. The available funds from the SweetWater 420 Fest, $4,250.00, are currently in an account held by Park Pride. Thanks to all those who helped to support this project. The ravine largely has been a forgotten and unused (except by isolated urban campers) part of Candler Park. The goal of cleaning and trail building is to make the area more inviting and encourage more traffic to the area. Trails are among the most popular features in most parks, and the ravine provides a natural experience missing from the more developed areas of the park. SweetWater Brewery has graciously offered its staff for a workday to help complete the path, as well as PR efforts to try to attract additional volunteers to complete the work. The date for the workday is Friday, March 18, 2011. We will have additional volunteer help from the always‐energetic Operation Boot Camp. However, we could use some help from the community. We will most likely have a follow up workday on Saturday to complete the project. The concept map below shows the location of the ravine and proposed trail. For more information and details, go to www.friendsofcandlerpark.org , or friend our group on Facebook. …And Then There’s the Bunny Trail Plans Under Way for Egg Hunt April 23 By Mark Clement, CPNO Special Projects Officer It’s time to start planning the 4 th annual Candler Park Easter Egg Hunt! The working date is April 23 at noon. Over the years, this event has grown increasingly popular with our kid population. Due to demand we have decided to grow the event to 2000 eggs! Kate Sandhaus has graciously offered her home the night before the hunt at 7:30 pm for an Easter‐egg‐stuffing party. Permits, fees and possible use of pool house bathrooms will be handled by the Friends of Candler Park. We are asking for up to $499.00 in funding from CPNO. We will need a bunny suit ($75‐$100) and the rest of the funds can be used for Easter eggs and candy. The event is open to kids of all ages who love candy eggs and don’t mind hunting for them. For any comments, questions or concerns email us @ [email protected] .
