Weddings have always been an important part of Canada’s social and cultural fibre, but they have also become a vital part of Canada’s artistic and business communities. The Canadian Wedding Industry Awards honours and awards the remarkable professionals who represent multiple creative and technical disciplines from Coast to Coast.

CANADIAN JEWELRY DESIGNER OF THE YEAR

JEWELS BY ALAN ANDERSON

Alan Anderson is a self-taught jewelry

designer based in Toronto, Ontario. In

his studio, Anderson handcrafts each

piece, prong-setting vintage crystals and

stones to create one-of-a-kind pieces. He

doesn’t research trends, instead staying

true to his personal style with an ever-

changing collection of statement pieces

that he hopes women will wear daily “in

random acts of glamour.” His fascination

with all things that glittered, on a large

scale, began as a child. First influenced

by an eccentric aunt who adorned herself

in gems, his devotion grew watching

the films and glamourous sirens of

Hollywood’s golden age, at the same time

devouring the images of Newport’s gilded

age and books on European Royalty at the

turn-of-the-century.

His pieces have adorned celebrities and

magazine covers around the world. In

December 2011, an amethyst cuff created

by Alan and owned by Dame Elizabeth

Taylor was part of the Christie’s auction,

The Collection of Elizabeth Taylor. In

July 2012, one of Alan’s brooches, worn

by Katy Perry, appeared on the cover of

L’Uomo Vogue.

Sandra Silveyra grew up in Saltillo, Mexico.

Her parents opened their first bridal

shop when she was 9 which kept her

summers busy working around lace and

frantic happy brides. In 2009 she opened

a bridal accessories shop in Monterrey,

Mexico. After a first successful year, she

sold the store, got married and moved to

Vancouver, Canada in 2011. She worked in

her first mini collection and visited Blush

Bridal / Vera Wang store in Vancouver.

They kept all the pieces and Olivia

was born.

In 2013, Olivia started selling at Isetan,

Japan’s most exclusive department store.

Being at their emblematic Shinjuku branch

was a milestone and inspired Sandra

to explore international grounds and

encouraged her to show at the upcoming

Bridal Fashion Week in October 2014.

Nadia Colella began her artistic journey
