New Paraments for the Sanctuary
We have been worshiping in our beautiful
new sanctuary for around a year and a half. It
is wonderful how our church looks, receiving
many positive comments and blessings since
updating our sanctuary. However, one thing
has been missing, new paraments. Paraments
are the pieces of cloth that hang from the
pulpit, the lectern and across the communion
table.
Central Christian Church has ordered new
paraments for our beautiful new sanctuary.
They will be white Bemberg Fabric with gold
fringe on the bottom and the red Disciples of
Christ Chalice in the middle. This is just one
more aspect to make our sanctuary look its
absolute best. If you would like to help with
the cost of the new paraments please let the
office know or write on your donation “New
Paraments.”
Fellowship Dinner
Sunday, August 28, 2016
After Sunday School
Come together as a community as we sit down to a meal together.
The Youth Group of Central Christian Church will be putting on a Fellowship
Dinner to help raise money for different events they will be doing and also to
re-coup some funds spent on the Mission Trip to St. Louis. Please make plans to
come for a wonderful meal of fellowship and joining together as the family of God.
The Friends Sunday School Class is taking a
break for the month of August. We will resume
class the first Sunday in September with a
series by Marcus Borg - "The Heart of
Christianity." This series is about emerging
trends in the church. In the future other topics
of great interest will be discussed. Everyone is
welcome - come join us!

Only 3 more Work Days before Regional Assembly
Thank you all so very much for participating in the work days so that
our church can be in tip-top shape for the Regional Assembly. We
still have some projects to be done and desperately need your help.
The remaining workdays are 8/27, 9/17, 10/1, all from 9am-noon.
As the month of August comes upon us, I will be taking a couple weeks of
vacation. I will be traveling down to Texas to see my new nephew who arrived on
August 1st. As life changes it is always nice to remember where one has been to
understand where one is going. With that in mind, for the two “Call” articles in
the month of August, I thought it would be nice to revisit some of the articles Rev.
Mike McGinnis wrote in the past. Once a week the church gets emailed one of
Mike’s past newsletter articles. The message is given with humor many of the
times and the advice is always worth hearing. I hope you enjoy a few of the tidbits
from the Pastor’s Study of Mike in the month of August.
FROM THE PASTOR’S STUDY: July 17, 1979
I’ve had many comments on my “From the Pastor’s Study” articles that have been
written in a light vein. While a few have been critical, the majority have been
favorable. I’m sure my readers in St. Louis or Indianapolis find it hard to identify
with Selmore, Parchcorn Hollow, and Charles Teeter, but a good many who have
come from the mold of such appreciate my excellent qualifications for mediocrity,
along with a sense of humor that has helped me over many a rough stretch on
life’s road. Like the country singer says, “being crazy keeps me from going
insane.”
Life has burdens that no one can escape, and as I understand the Bible,
Christianity does not remove the load. Sometimes that load gets pretty heavy…
almost unbearable, and if laughing helps then I’ve always said, “laugh.”
Christianity teaches us how to bear burdens that fall rightfully on us… sometimes
with tears… sometimes with smiles.
Rest assured, life for me hasn’t always been a real gas. There is very little you can
tell me about acute anxiety and lingering depressions. I’ve lived with the fear of
death long enough to overcome it…only to end up afraid of life. I can’t honestly
say that being a Christian has lightened my load, but as Phillips Brooks, prayed,
maybe it will strengthen my back.
You may not identify with be, but I identify with you. As my old friend, Larry Fine
off the Three Stooges once said, “We are all a bunch of goof-ups.” Centuries ago
Seneca wrote, “However wretched a fellow mortal may be, he is still a member of
our common species.” We are all in this thing called life together friends, and
sometimes it is better to laugh than cry.
Peace, Mike
